weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

I seem to be struggling for some reason! Plenty of ideas but self doubt about them creeping in....

It's quite an easy one as well for ideas.

Cheers all.

 that made me chuckle seeing that!

Isn't it amazing what can be done in PP? Just curious, but did you not consider shooting it in B&W rather than converting?
I know I don't generally shoot in B&W as I convert later, but it does make you think doing it in camera first!

now we know why he has to wait for Jackie and Isabelle to go to bed before he does his shooting *cough* *cough*

As Marsha pointed out you could have done it B&W in camera (I'll be trying this myself later lol) but I love the shot - it's very hard to take a photo of yourself :)

very good  and a cracking idea didn't even cross my mind that kind of change, well its certainly cheered my evening up B+W works better I think and glad you got the crop right

Cheers. I never photograph b&w. I read/heard/saw somewhere that colour to b&w gives you more data to work with.

Great idea and the B&W conversion makes the image far stronger for me. Are you sure this shouldn't have had a NSFW warning on it

Cheers and :bat:

Cheers. As above. I'll try and find the information about colour to b&w being better than b&w.

 Now, did you get your framing right first time round :naughty: The b+w works much better on this pic, and this is going to sound so wrong, but your legs look better in b+w :exit:

Them are some hardcore legs, I tell ya :D

I'm very glad he did get the crop right

Thanks. It was one of them light bulb moments.

Cheers all.

I don't either as shooting JPEG'S in B&W is something that can't be undone in PP unless you shoot in RAW too. But this was SOOC so I'd have shot it B&W & RAW then compared!

Natural, one of them themes that has loads of potential and I hope to be able to get out Friday...but need to sweet talk Jackie :D

Natural Gas. Took loads of photographs, some sharper and some blurrier, but rather liked this one. The sharp ones appeared too static.

I like the colours but most of all I like thin wisps of sparks ().

NB: had another look and thought I'd post a sharper photograph as well. Not sure which one I prefer now :help:

have to say the 1st one for me only because it has more going on but I do like the blue in the second one

I have to say I agree with Allan. Maybe including some of the hob rather than darkness would pull in a bit more interest. Hadn't thought of natural gas so good thinking for that one.

very good take on the theme, I can't choose between them although no.2 is just edging it lol

Andy

Change - original idea, well carried out. As SOOC you got the framing spot on but the pp makes all the difference and illustrates the value of considered pp for any image.

Natural - again, very original. #1 for me because it has that element of unsharpness in places which indcates that the flame is moving about because of the energy of the gas. Also prefer the colours

Hi, all, can't work out how to multi quote on iPad.

Appreciate the feedback and its good to get differing opinions. I prefer #1 mainly because its more dynamic. I did have photographs with the hob in but went for a minimal approach by cloning it out.

I'll make sure I've visited and commented on everyone's threads.

Cheers.

Fantastic idea for Natural! Natural Gas brilliant!

Maybe I could do the same and not be accused of copying as here in Spain it's called 'Gas Natural' Well, maybe not ......

The first is so much better IMO for the colours and movement.

Another vote for #1 Andy.
The colours and movement make the difference for me.
A creative and unique take on the theme too Andy

Hi Matey

OMG....thats a proper pair of legs  Novel idea for the theme , god nows what Jackie would have siad if she'd seen you detting up to take this shot  B&W all the way for me....& a big thanks for getting the crop right

Natural....#2 for me...like the colors in #1 but prefer the simplicity & sharpness of #2.....I'd have cropped it square :p

Hi Andy, not been able to review threads lately due to personal problems so a few catch up’s.

Flow - Like this idea and the age of the car just adds something to the shot. Not seen an empty road like this for years.
Friendship - Long time since I’ve seen matchstick men. Nice simple composition. Prefer #2 for lighting and long shadows
Change - Can’t fault you on the idea for this theme, just hope they were clean. B/W works well. Have also read that you should convert colour to B/W rather than use B/W in camera
Natural - Definitely #1 for me. Colour more natural and provides interest in the red flares

Well, a big :razz::razz::razz::razz: to this week.

Had my idea, finished work early, arrived well before sunset, set camera up, ready to roll.....then it pi**ed it down :shake: I got drenched...b****r.

Anyway here's a back up idea I had . Not happy with it but it'll have to do because I'm out on the town for a curry and some beer tomorrow night.

I've not visited many posts this week so I'll nip over and peruse now

Number one for me only because if you using the letters then they have to be readable both good though i do like 2 in an abstract way

yep I agree I prefer no.1 - and I'm intrigued as to how it was done - always a good thing - perhaps it was fate that it rained

Another vote for #1 Andy
It has a clearer composition to it, the letters/word are more identifiable.
#2 I do like also but its more abstract feel is a more complicated image needing more of an explanation. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, just different.
I like the B&W conversion on these, particularly the strong contrasty tones.

So? Spill the beans, how'd you manage these?

Cheers, all.

I bought some letters a while ago and used them here. Not easy though. Letters in a dish with water, in the freezer over night. They kept sinking, sticking to the side of the plate, etc.

I wanted to get more of a frozen water feel, and I wasn't too happy with what I got.

Anyway, I'm off to see what this week will bring ;)

Cheers.

Hi Andy,

Age - #1 for me. I like the texture of the ice. #2 looks out of focus to me? I think it would have worked really well if it wasn't for that.

Hi ya

novel take on the theme....was kinda wondering what you'd come up with  very contrasty & must admit I'd not have guessed it was ice had you not said . The G bugs me...looks back to front ? #1 for me...can see all the letters , #2 although nice in an abstract way the little blurry bits at the edge of the E iritate's me...sorry :'(

Thanks, all.

Well, onto week 43. Had a few ideas one of which is a rather yucky SP...might do it on Friday :D

Here's my submission for spread. I spent quite a while moving around the balcony to get the composition I was after. Specifically to get a diagonal wooden floor. The plant pot/plant are much larger than they appear and again I like it.

Not sure which I prefer  I like the gritty nature and detail in the B&W but the separation between the leaves and the floor in the colour.

Cheers all.
