Thanks, I flick-flacked between uber sharp and slight movement. Opted for a bit of movement, because I could not get a sharp images...even with flash!

Thanks, BG took a while to get black. I simply could not get the salt to freeze. I tried several variations of DOF and shutter speed but :bang:

Anyway onto Dark. I have a few ideas, one of which I need to get Isabelle's help and convince Jackie to let me do it :help:

Fire and ice; good fun isn't it!? Great photo, I really love that one.

Of the two mineral ones, I prefer the first. It might be Marmite, but I love Marmite! There's just something about that shot that makes me want to keep looking at it!

I have not been visiting anyones threads lately so thought I'd get my 4r$e in gear and get posting.

Your last one for mineral gets my vote, you have captured a real sense of movement in the salt crystals. The crystals work well against the black BG with focus spot on IMHO.

I haven't got much crit as such, I perhaps would have liked to see the salt cellar or fingers just to give a sense of scale to the image. That may not have been possible I understand.

On a different note, I have just got myself the 105mm lens and this makes me think that I need to get some practice in with it. Iain

Cheers, Iain, salt cellar, yeah, but by the time I managed to get this photograph I was :gag: and I'd had enough.

105mm...enjoy. Very sharp but the DOF, even at f22 is very thin.

Look forward to some photographs :thumbs:

Yes, the times I have used it so far, I found the dof as thin as a thin thing, It will certainly take a bit of practice to get the best out of it as you have.
 
Well, for a change I managed to photograph my first idea. Walk to the local woods with Jackie and Isabelle.

Isabelle became quite bored very quickly so I couldn't get the pose I was really after. Anyway, processed to suit the theme - grainy, black and white. I was after an alone in the dark feel.

Quite happy with this one. Few more ideas but we're off to Scotland for a week on Saturday...sssoooooo looking forward to it :D

Anyway, good luck all and mahhoossive pat on the back to everyone who is still here :clap:

nice pic love the grain the large version on flickr needs to be seen it really makes a difference. Really nice composition.

I'm not finding it too dark Andy. I like the fall off of light as it goes up the trees. I'm not sure about the pose of your daughter. It might be because her trousers are dark it almost looks like she's floating

Cracking spot, Peter. I'll have a fix in post.

I intended to have Isabelle dressed in a white top, to stand out in the forest, and a teddy bear....but I forgot the white top and....err, the teddy :bonk:

You have captured the weeks theme well in this portrait of Isabelle, it must be very handy having a willing model for your photography ideas.

Yours isn't the first this week to make great use of negative space in the image, different everytime I may add and is a factor which makes this a great challenge to see others interpretations.

There isn't any crit to add Andy, you've brought a real sense of darkness and isolation to this, well done :thumbs: Iain
 
The bit of dodging has improved this brilliantly. Well done Andy.
Enjoy Scotland, wish I could get up there sometime. Neighbour just back from Edingburgh fringe, had great time and decent weather.

Mineral - Great shot that !!!!

I spent a while yesterday evening taking dozens of shots of salt from all angles... and over an hour editing them, not 1 I'm even slightly happy with :bang:

Dark - Very nice indeed, the f1.8 must of helped loads in that light !!!!

I've been quite reserved with the camera, family and all.

Well,no real chance to plan my Time even though I have loads of ideas. Have a few that I think fit the theme but might, for the first time, be posting late as not sure when we're leaving Kirkcaldy for Leeds.... Hope it's Saturday because it's chucking it down and no chance of any togging!!!

Hi, all, well we're back in Leeds Saturday but if I post Time then it'll be too late and I didn't have standards :)

Laying here on an inflatable bed.... Comfy... Not, and can't work out how to upload from flickr using my phone!!

I've posted Family Time flickr as an interim.Isabelle next to 1 Sheader in small hamlet named Sheader . It's a very unusual surname and possibly distant family

I've waited many years to visit and Jackie treated me and isabelle to a trip. Very moving it was

I'll post a link when it get access to my laptop and have other Times that I have photographed to asses for posting.

Well, two from me.

Isle of Skye..if you haven't been - trust me you do not know what you are missing...really, stunning place! I'm setting up a holiday savings account so we can go back in 5 years for a two week holiday to tour the whole island.

#1, 'Taking time to sit and ponder' semi planned and quite happy. I have more with Isabelle and Jackie more prominent but I was at 11mm for this and really wanted to show the beauty of the place.

#2, 'Time cut short' took a tour around a great farmer that had been turned into a museum. We took a walk up to an old graveyard, as you do, and I was astounded to to Alexandra McQueens tombstone. I really admired him and was shocked to hear that he committed suicide shortly after his mother died.

Really liking the wide view in number 1 Andy, lovely colours throughout and a very nice sky.
Number 2, very good, nice angle of view cracking sky and the b+w suits it well. Glad you had a good time, it looks lovely.

Dark ....your re-edited version works really well , a good take on the theme...no crit from me :thumbs:

Time....#2 for ....love the angle , the clarity, detail in the clouds, POV & the mono works beautifully :clap:

#1 just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid , lovely view in to the distance but something just doesn't sit right to me...possibly the POV ? I can see what you were aiming for though .Can't put my finger on it :bang: Sky's doing something a bit weird as well :thinking:

So...you organising a trip to Skye for the 52'ers then :D
 
Liking number 2 more than one sky looks a bit odd on number 1. I like the idea with number 1 but the distant view not really working for me anyway. the only thing with number 2 is the dead space on the left could maybe do with a bit of a trim.

Yeah, I do like #2.

#1, hmmm, looked at all the photographs I took in the same location and they all have the same foggy/misty sky.

Skye trip....I'd love to organise one :naughty: I opened a savings account today for Jackie, Isabelle and me to return for a 2 week holiday in 5 years :clap:

Cheers, see above re the sky in #1. I did a few crops, inclusing one on the LH but preferred this one.

I really like the mellow feel to number one, there's nothing like sitting and chilling in front of such a stunning view.

I prefer number two though, I love the depth in the cloud it really draws your eye through the shot. How you achieve this is a mystery to me!

Well, as I've said elsewhere, realised I've neglecting Jackie and Isabelle by having my camera glued to my hand. Here's my rather weak submission for Body. Have loads of ideas involving trips to mortuaries, funeral parlours, car scrap yards; climbing into a waste bin for a dead Body take.......and others, but I just want to 'bag' this week's.

Sorry it's brief - I'm lagging behind again! :(

Dark - Definitely dark! Love the PP.
Time - Both lovely shots, excellent colour in the first and contrast in the second.
Body - Love the colour, that purple is fantastic. The top left shot looks beautifully sinister.
 
really like the colour version I'm not sure that something like flowers work in b and w. The larger version ( the right hand pic) really shows how dead the flower is if that makes any sense
