weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

First of all really sorry seem to have missed your last few pics, I do find it really difficult to keep track of everyone :bonk:

I am sure everything has been said about them and you don't need me wittering on about them so I will start with....

straight both are really well exposed with great detail and PP. I too was thinking about this being a triptych

Hi andy, I really like both of these shots and am struggling to decide between them. the first does cover the theme better but I love the detail in the second!

I also look forward to seeing your fish tank photos!

Like Sarah both of these are good and whilst I prefer #2, #1 is more of theme. What's all this with the fish tank?

Which reminds me........ Two fish in a tank and one says to the other "do you know how to drive this thing?"......Sorry couldn't resist

Couple more.

This is a genre I really like doing and I may have mentioned one of my favourite artists, Andy Goldworthy, clicky linky for one of his works. Simply adore his work...he has had a few exhibitions at YSP.

Anyway, here's 2 more.

Cheers and you wouldn't believe how quickly leaves that have been pressed in a heavy book start to curl once placed on a flat surface :bonk:

Week 28 straight 4 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Hi Andy

Straight #1 - really good idea for the theme. Vibrant colours and good detail in the leaves. Good background

#2 - i can see the straight cuts but not really getting the theme. However a classy photo. Sharp image and the PP is excellent - really like the border.

Thanks, and I'd agree about #2.

Hi Andy

Number one fits the theme better with the straight cut between the leaves. The white background really glows, did you shoot these on the white background or is it assisted with PP?

I get number two with the section cut out and flipped but in a straight line. The detail in the leaf is amazing:thumbs:

I think you need to do a third one and make a triptytch:thinking:

I look forward to your fish tank shots.

White BG with a bit of levels adjust to make pure white.

Had a go at a tryptych but not too keen on the BG and I need sleep...:D

Thanks, Peter and :bat: for the 'joke' :D

Hi Andy

Straight - have to go with the flow, really like no:2 and the pp done on it - but for 'OnThemeIness' the first has to have it, nice bright colours

Thanks for popping by...

Cheers all.

I have another idea preparing itself as I type...may work...may not but I'll try owt.

Regarding the fish tank, just need Jackie to leave for a while so I can drag it out of the loft. The idea I have is very simple and I'm surprised it hasn't already been done

Bed time...

There are some themes which really interest me. This is one of them :D

I could do loads more.

Last one, though.

Not exactly as I envisioned. The orange juice kept freezing the none filled side so I didn't get it as crisp as I really wanted.

Anyway, final one.

Cheers.

Week 28 straight 8 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Hi Andy, I love the triptych but again the detail in the B&W leaf is superb!

The glass of frozen juice is very clever, you've done well to get that frozen so straight, I guess we can let you off for the bit that strayed;) I think the only thing I can add is that the juice on the black side is darker than on the white. Or is it? Is it the black and white playing tricks on the mind:thinking: That is the kind of thing that would make my head explode trying to figure out :bonk:

It's great when a theme grabs you, I'm still a bit obsessed with abstract!

really love these, all except the square cut, I like the way the line cuts through them

PS no fault with the square cut, I just prefer the ones with the line going through

Hi Andy. The straight cut ones work really well, with the triptych being my favourite by a largish margin.

I'm not too keen on the glass one, for the reasons you identified. It's a good idea, but just hasn't worked as it should have done.

Really interesting ideas Andy, sometimes the theme is a bit secondary but I do see it. Out of them all #1 and #3 I think for me. Great colours, tones, textures and composition. The border in #1 needs something else I think, not sure what but needs to be a bit more rough or rugged.

Great week!

The single cut through the five leaf cluster gets my vote Andy.
Its a clean, fresh photograph with the pp really lifting the image.
The triptych is a close second, I like the bold colours against the bright white background. The only thing I'd change there is to even up the black border, the differing widths is playing havoc with me OCD, get it sorted! ;)

Thanks, Iain.

I rather like the border and better not submit any more :nono:

Just viewed them again and I can see very slight flaws in the alignment :bonk:

Cheers.

Hi ya matey

so many choices for straight !
of the 2 original leaves images I prefer the color version though a bit too much space round it for me...B&W just doesn't work for me with this subject..sorry :'(

Of all the images posted I'm way way prefering the frozen juice...love the contrast with the bg's , the sharpness of the color...really likey likey

Think I may have missed one week of yours but the amarula cream has taken hold so quiting whilst I can see straight

So many choices, indeed. I thought today that I should stick to posting one photograph....be a bit more selective. Just can't help it sometimes :D

Thanks for the feedback.

I have an idea or 2 or Letter...not sure if one is NSFW or not :suspect:

Just need to buy the prop/s tomorrow :D

Cheers.

Oh, and don't forget to treat yourself to a trip on the TP52 project end meet...thread is here...clicky linky

And it's only Monday!!:lol::lol:

Indeed.

Well idea number 1...just Failed:bonk: Trying to blow a smoke O. Some things I can't done on my own: worried about the smell of smoke in the living room (too windy outside), focusing was a 'mare, there's more but I'm a bit :gag: Never let it be said I take the easy road.

Right idea #2 to be attempted tomorrow :D

Cheers.

Might need to borrow the Crown for late theme post this week....:naughty:

I'll be producing my Letter tonight. One thing about having an early Idea and then a gap between is uncertainty is creaping :bonk:

Anyway, if you're still here you are oficcially allowed to wear a Hard Core TP52 badge if we had any :D

I thougth I'd commented on all the Letters but a few more have arrived and I'll catch up tonight.

Cheers all and don't forget to pop by the TP52 end of project meet thread located here...clicky linky. More the merrier and we had a superb time on the mid project meet.

Straight 4 for me, I like the triple style (forgot the name!) in the effect.

Of the two Andy, #2 gets my vote, the colour version is more vibrant and punchy. I am not too sure about the wedding ring? in the background, it seems to be hovering to my eye. Perhaps having it more grounded would assist  As if to bring it more into focus and context. Iain

The things you do for your art

Like both color & mono , color has more punch , mono looks more seedy (?) to me . Nicely lit , good DOF on the packets & a neat twist on the theme ( I do wonder about you sometimes though matey :p ) so thats all good
Niggles....though who am I to nit pick.....the ring would add more if clearer particularly in the color version , maybe bringing it a touch more forward would bring it a little more into focus ? Possibly have a tear in the packet top to suggest it's about to be used ?

Your imagination never ceases to amaze

Just viewing on my phone. Lighting looks good. Out of the 2 I prefer the colour version. Is that a wedding ring in the bg?

Wedding ring it is. Cheers.

Yeah, the wedding ring does seem to be an issue. I tried various DOF and distances but time was running our a my glass of Jack was getting warm (:naughty:

Hi Andy, well this wasn't what I was expecting when you said you were waiting for props!

I prefer the colour version too. This doesn't really fit the theme for me though, more naughty than letter I think!

Doesn't fit the theme  French Letter....being quite a shy person and having discovered that you have to get an assistant to open the security box containing said French Letters....I reverted to Amazon :$

Cheers.

Thanks for the detailed crit

To be frank, I thing overall there has been a distinct lack of crit so I appreciate you taking time out.

As above I did try various DOFs and this was my second idea. First one didn't quite work. I had wedding ring in palm of one hand and the French Letter :) in the other...story was man pondering a night out with the prospect of being unfaithful.

Anyho..... I woke up this morning and felt I'd hit the proval photography brick wall..... After 82 TP52 posts from last year's project through to now I feel quite uninspired.

I have a cracking idea for Contrast so will see how it plays out and either call it a day or maybe take a few weeks out.

............... strange, but as I type I'm thinking to myself, "Get a grip and pull yourself together :bat:!".

Cheers all and I'm sure I'll be back.....:rules:

Right you...time for a word in your shell like..... having just dragged myself up by my boot laces I'll have no talk of quitting from you - is that clear :bat: Though I do know just how you feel....I almost dread the theme's cos my imagination has taken a long vacation & I'm struggling with ideas for pretty much anything

On the up-side were getting ever nearer to the next meet...that is should we ever decide on where & when  I still have it in mind to take a couple of days up the east coast n back doing some landscape n whatever else takes my fancy...shout up if you fancy a mini meet

You can't quit now you are the one who is always commenting that there has only been a few posts for the weeks theme. Maybe thats what is getting you down other peoples lack of posts.

The pic for letter, bang on theme but the focus on the ring is an issue it being so out of focus it doesn't help to tell the story you are trying to put over. The colour version is better for me i think it needs that splash of colour.
I have no idea about what to do about the ring, if you had more dof would it take something away from the point of the story  maybe.

I know what you are saying about the lack of crit but for me I am new to this only had the camera for 7 months so i really don't think I am qualified to offer much in the way of constructive criticism maybe that goes for other people too.

Ok I must live in a bubble, I have never heard of a condom being called a French letter:nuts: It was only after reading your response above I googled it and there it was:bonk: every day's a school day!

I admit to being one that doesn't give much crit. I'll talk about composition, DOF and content, but lighting, contrast, tone and other stuff I'm pretty clueless on, sorry!

You're not allowed to stop though! We'll never let you.

Thanks, all.

I gave myself a clip around the ear and pulled my socks up. It must have been one of them days.

My first attempt at Contrast came off concept wise but technically naff.

Idea #2, just finished and cleaned the kitchen up. It was a bit scary and if Jackie caught me I'd be in bbiiiiiggg trouble :bat: Just processing now and hope I've pulled it off.

Thanks for the support.

Lynne, an east coast trip would be superb, but I'm of the the Sunday meet at the National Memorial Arboretum and I may push it if I ask if I can go on another meet. Let me know when you're going and where and I'll try and sweet talk Jackie...:D

(Pssst..missed my Letter submission.....???...it's up there )

Anyway, here's my Contrast. Wanted to try this for a while and after sneaking out to but the props (paving stone, cotton wool balls, black card and lighter fluid) had a go when Jackie retired to bed.

Scary setting fire to stuff in my kitchen

Overall, happy with it...no I'm very happy with it. I might have another go tomorrow night to get more detail in the flames (and Flickr has sucked some of the warmth out of the flame :bat:)
