weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Fire and ice I like it, flame looks fine on my monitor both flame and ice nicely exposed

LOVE IT....fab idea & really well shot...no crit from me , flam looks spot on both in color & detail & the ice is nicely exposed :clap:

I've not even had an idea yet:'(

Another great week for you Andy
Your creativity is to be applauded

Banish all thoughts of not seeing this to the end Andy, I admire the hard work and effort that you so obviously put into the 52 it would be a shame if you didn't complete it.

The image itself, I apologise as I can't offer any crit, it works. The flame is perfectly exposed, jet black background and you've kept the detail in the ice too. There's a lot of elements in there which you have brought together well.

I enjoyed the back story to your shoot too :D
It painted a picture in my mind of Mrs Posiview coming down to a blackened kitchen in the morning and saying WTF has he been up to now?

Good work Andy!

Thanks for popping bye.

Hi Andy, contrast is superb  I read something online about doing this last week. I think you've done a great job

Thanks. I had quite a time finding any instructions/assistance how to do it and what I did find was wwayyyy to complicated :D

A very good job indeed Andy, I cant think of anyway to improve it really. Well done.

Thanks, Michael.

Cheers, Lynne, and as always you'll come up with the goods

Good work Andy!

Thanks, Iain. Sometimes I'm too critical of myself which is not a bad thing, I guess. I was thinking how to improve it...had an idea of holding the ice in my hand....and asking Jackie to pour lighter fluid over the ice, lighting it and setting off the camera...thought better of it :bonk:

The thing is, I'd be sat there screaming, "I got it...I GOT THE PHOTOGRAPH!" :D

Cheers all appreciate the comments

Letter – I’d also thought of French letter but my idea might have been NSFW  I got what you were trying to achieve and prefer #2 but find the ring a tad too oof for me

Contrast – I like this one. The exposure has been well handled and the slightly off centre approach has improved things.

Yeah, on reflection the ring should have been a tad sharper.

Excellent work with fire and ice. Works really well.

Thanks for popping by

I like this one Andy its a good idea and well executed!! If I was to be ultra picky it would be to have the ice a touch brighter!!:exit::)

Cheers. I only had one flash and dodged the RH side as much as possible to avoid degradation.

Cheers.

good shot, well done :)

Straight - triptych is my preference
Letter - I guess it meets the theme but as already noted the wedding ring needs to be more prominent.
Contrast - Fire and ice. Nice black BG, good colour and composition. Definately a winner.

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - love them all, great idea, great colour treatments. Triptych is my fave of the leaves; glasses are my favourite overall.
Letter - I'd never heard of the phrase either so had to Google it. I like the idea of it, but I think the composition is weak, and honestly I'm not sure why the ring is there - is it meant to signify that it's off and someone is cheating, or to represent marriage...?
Contrast - fab idea, love the flame. Not sure about the colour on the ice, to me ice is either very white or very blue, not a purple-y colour. To me it looks like coal, which makes it harder to spot that it's ice, for better or worse.

Yeah, the ring was an issue.

Cheers.

You call that brief ;)

Regarding the ice, strange, because the ice was concerted to black and white so unsure how you can see purple

Thanks for the comments.

Hi Andy,

Letter - I don't get this, but you can blame at least part of that on me being foreign! :P

Contrast - I can't offer anything constructive: I think it is perfect just the way it is. Added as a favourite on Flickr.

Hi,

Letter, check here linky (NSFW) :D

Contrast, thanks...one of my favourite.

Cheers.

Weird, sometimes I see a theme and go, "wooohhooooo!", then after a good think I go, "     !".

Often the easiest themes are the hardest.

Had two fails so far and have a few more ideas, before I revert to a ring macro :nono:

Cheers all.

OK, so I thought, 'Mineral deposits', and there's a line of what I believe is efflorescence on a wall in our garden. I found it visually appealing :geek:, it reminds me of a fault line and it could be a photograph of a mountain ridge.

Just my thoughts on what I suspect may be my most Marmite of photographs so far :D

I have other ideas.

Week 31 mineral 2 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Hi

Letter - good idea and good composition, altho much has been said of the focus/lack of on the ring. The colour version is best for me as a more punchy shot.

Contrast - very imaginative. The flame is particularly well caught, good sinuous shape and warm colour. The ice looks a little 'dirty', but overall a good shot and well on theme.

Mineral - I find this a bit disappointing after the last 2 themes. I find it hard to match it to the theme and a bit nondescript. Sorry . Marmite indeed.

mmm sorry Andy mineral is missing something, maybe it would be better in colour? Or a slightly wider crop?

I agree about the colour it might be interesting to see

Sorry Andy but I to feel this is a little disappointing. I can see where your going with the write up. Perhaps a close up of the texture may have helped.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback.

Totally agree... Missed it here :-(

I have another idea to try before Saturday.

Cheers and I'll pop by your tread tonight.

Two more, shall we say, failures.

1. low angle photograph of the floor at The White Rose centre in Leeds. Tried to get some nice detail in the marble floor with feet in the BG. Pre-visualisation my ar*e :nono:
2. Water and salt in pan. Boiled the water off hoping for some nice patterns in the salt after evaporation. Got nowt but what looked like sherbet :shake:

:help:

On with #3 now.

I'll keep you posted

Cheers.

I'm afraid I too aren't seeing the mineral in this one Andy. I think a much wider DoF may have helped allow the eye to focus on enough of the image to make the mineral stand out.

Andy, I can send you some proper salt crystals if you want to play:lol:

Some weeks things just don't work out as we hoped for - this is one of those weeks for me as well! I've just put 2 more up but they're still not quite what I was hoping to capture!

I can see what you were trying to achieve with your first shot Andy and don't think its that bad at all, maybe a wider crop would be better. I hope #3 works out for you!!:):)

See below...with proper salt....:bonk: you know the really small stuff

Cheers.

Thanks, looking forward to Saturday.

For me that's a much better image Andy.

Cheers, who'da thought it would be so hard.....(for some) :D

I like that one I like the way everything is frozen and good macro I assume, as table salt is tiny.

I really found this to be a hard subject too :bang:

Hi ya

I quote sort of like you #1 image for Mineral...can see what you're getting at re the mountain ridge...possibly a tad lower POV would have been better...if that was possible ?

#2.....great black BG.....sense of movement in the crystals falling...but for me ..& this is where I struggle with macro... I'd have wanted the crystals pin sharp , possibly , but then again
