weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Hi Andy

Random - clever idea and good technique and composition. i like the small case random 'd' and the colours and the contrast between the 2 halves.

Temperature - both good shots but #2 indicates temperature better to me. #2 has good separation between the wick and the flame - almost as if they exist independently. Good black background.

abstract - like the seascape a lot. I like the neutral colour which gives the scene a quiet soft, feel. Again good technique.

Even if you are not learning from your posts, I think that there is a lot there for us lessers to consider. Thanks for posting and explaining.

I must have had a :bonk: moment....'of course', I told myself, ' you've learned loads!'. Snapped out of it :D

I prefer the smoother edit of #2 although as Mark commented earlier I would have liked some more vibrancy. Probably difficult on what might have been a dull day though.

Cheers, I'm actually happy with the colours and didn't want any more that I managed to squeeze out.

From my point of view not having had a proper camera for long I do feel I learn something every week with this. There are some weeks I am frustrated with it but the thought process is good, ie how to achieve what I am thinking about, it doesn't always work but it does introduce a new way of thinking every week. I think you get more out of it than you know.

Good images by the way and you obviously put a lot of effort into what you do

I've learned loads...slapped myself out of it.

Lots of effort are put in, sometimes, I feel, too much.

Random - really good interpretation boosted by the reflection.
Temperature - #2 for me with great colours in the wick. I'd be worried about my lens melting getting this close lol
Abstract - another fine shot using stacking, really pulls out the detail. I like the second entry but would prefer more even spacing between low and middle sections

Thanks, I didn't think to get lower down for Abstract.

Agreed!

Like what you have done Andy, lovely shot. Could see this one on a wall somewhere.

Nice colours and very calming.

Thanks

I Andy. I really like your second abstract:clap:

I think we're all learning something from this, we probably just don't realise it! I'd say I've learnt there are too many different techniques I need to learn!

True that!

Abstract - both pics are really good and really interesting.
The forks - a macro shot WITH lots of DOF. Just because it is so unnatural makes it look so stunning. I presume it is the stacking (whatever that is!) that gives you the enhanced DOF.
#2 For me it is the incredibly sharp horizon that really makes this photo - whilst everything else is blurred. Wasn't it really difficult to pan with the camera exactly horizontal?

Stacking is great, but needs plenty of time.

Cheers all....Saturday soon :clap::clap::clap:

First thing that came to me mind for symmetry was to do Rorschach ink blot test.. I had one sheet of paper..... And I messed up..... Ggrrr.

I'll get some more paper tomorrow and see how I get on before I move onto some other ideas... :)

Andy....take a peek back to the start of last years 52 & then say you have'nt learnt anything :p

OK, second attempt which involved boiled rise.....failed :bonk:

I wanted to do some symmetrical writing à la Leonardo Da Vinci linky but Jackie refused to let me take down the mirror :bat:

Fall back number 4 :bonk:

I've read about symmetrical faces and how they are viewed as being more attractive.....research here if you are inclined linky

So, I had a go and was presented with a quite strange result. Now, I did quite a few self portraits last year, usually involving Jackie and Isabelle chucking/smothering/splashing me with a variety of food stuffs...:gag: but this is the first proper self portrait this year.

It's not my final submission but I'm always looking to try different things.

First is unedited and second is edited.

So, be prepared:

dare I say 'yay it worked'?

I wanted to do this too but no-one would model for me :(

not sure my pp skills are up to it anyway

you've done a smashing job, I can't see the join

PS if you want to tell me how you did it PM me :)

Well done Andy, some great editing there - you can't see the join. This was one of my ideas but couldn't get a model and no way was I going to do a self-portrait!!:lol:

I look forward to seeing your other takes on this great theme!!:)

Woo hoo....SP in your 52...never

Typically neat idea mister & well executed...don't ya just love pp

& for once I know how you did it & tried it myself by " borrowing " your mug shot....& managed it...crikey , that possibly means I've actually learnt something over the last 2 years

HHmmm, how about using yourself as the model...now where's my TP meet photographs of you....joking, you know too many of my shopping secrets and might tell Jackie...:rules:

Cheers and looking forward to your symmetry.

Nice one Andy. As has been said you can't see the join so some good PP'ing. Also nice and sharp where it needs to be.

Thanks, Peter.

Like it Andy, a very good bit of pp, how did you do it?

That's very clever Andy, I too would like to know what you did?

Cheers.

Now, I really want to make it sound more complicated than it was....but..

1. take photograph
2. open in PS (or similar)
3. crop in half
4. open blank sheet
5. copy and paste same half twice
6. flip horizontally
7. move into place
8. flatten

It is quite strange viewing your symmetrical self...

Well, this has been the most lacklustre photographic week for ages...

....been too busy watching strobist videos...

Cheers all...

Gggrrrrrrr......

Arrived. .... Composed...... Metered...... Focused..... Switched to manual focus.... Slotted in Pro Stopper....frikin rain....!!!

Beer time. ...

End of moan... Of home...

;(

Odd? I posted a comment on this last night, definitely, but it's gone? Sorry Andy.

Anyway, second attempt! I think it's worked very very well. The only thing I'd change is the background, which I think works less well because the red coloured bit bottom right in the original has also been mirrored. It just makes the PP'd one look less real to me, and I think this shot works best if it convinces you it's real :)

But that is minor, as I think it's extremely good, and you've processed it exceptionally well :)

Shame about the model though; could you not get Victoria Principal? They used to use this technique on her image to demonstrate that even a face that's perceived as perfect is not symmetrical. Still, I guess you've served science equally well by proving that it's not ONLY beautiful faces that lack symmetry :)

This may be the most predictable submission for a theme so far...sometimes, though, I like to go with my gut.

Not what I was after. I managed a few before moving on to some long exposures....I did a test, then it rained, hence the whine during my last post

I've noted in the 50 second exposure I did that it wasn't too bad, but there's a dark line going from top centre to just above centre left  Anyone got any idea what it is? I won't post it here but here's a clicky linky

Oooh , very dark & moody , nice couple of shots mister

#1....cropped a little tight for me & appears a little on the squiff ? The fountain looks straight but the pool seems to lean right a little . Touch of HDR....if thats what you did .....works really well , great sky , most foreboding

#2...not so keen, nothing wrong with it but not as powerful as #1 & that sigh thing in the almost centre irritates cos it makes me think the image isn't square on...if that makes sense ?

Goodd work matey

Not been around commenting much lately apologies.

Good work on symmetry, I admire people who post self portraits, not something I would be particularly keen on doing so well done on that.

The image itself works very well and its an interesting comparison by putting the original up too. As has been mentioned, the background I feel could be toned down a little but other than that

It has that "WANTED" poster look about it

#1 for moody gets my vote, its bang on theme and to be honest its the route I am thinking on going down. I took one yesterday along those very lines but will wait before posting it to see if I can come up with owt else.

#2 works too, but as Lynne mentioned, maybe clone that sign out.

I like the B&W conversion on these, it really suits the subject. Iain

Blooming BG...I try really hard to check BGs but missed the obvious :bonk:

Cheers and I'm sure there's an insult in there somewhere :bat:

I think is it leaning slightly because i squared everything off

#1 was the widest I could go without bringing other objects in. I did a 10 stop for this but didn't work.

#2, blooming sign...first thing I say was, "I'll clone the sign out".

Again, I'm sure I was square on, may have missed it by a tad, not sure if the sign is central in the grounds.

certainly number 1 Andy, I really lie the intensity of the sky. Not sure on number 2, it just doesn't works as well.

Cheers, it's #1 for me too.

Thanks, BG :bonk:

#1 for me too. Might have a go at a few more.

Thanks all.

I need to trawl through my 52s for a reshoot.

Happy togging all and if I've missed your posts PM me......:help:

Cheers.

Hi Andy

Moody - Damn I want that sky in my shot... no:1 is great, I like the tight crop and the B&W looks great, Moody and 1/2

Very slightly wider crop to avoid the clipping would of been perfect, but not really an issue on the whole for me

Oooh, moody as hell!

Number one for me. I love the composition and tones; it's a cracker!

#1 is gorgeous. High impact yet simple. Powerful sky, you got it just at the right moment.

#2 is ok, but would have preferred the whole building in. I didnt notice the sign....

This! Love the treatment, was it a bit of HDR or something else?

I love both but no.1 is my fave especially the lines down the hedge which seem to mirror the vertical lines in the pool walls  it's a lil bit wonky tho :)

#1 for me Andy. The PP'ing on the sky has really accentuated the moody feel to it.

Good shot tho:D

Hi, all and thanks. The photograph was processed with Silver Efex pro 2 (love this software!) with some tweaking in PS.

The fountain is on a slight tilt which is a bit a bit inconsiderate of it :D

I did notice the sign but forgot to remove in post. I really wanted to get the whole house in but if I stepped back someone has decided to put a metal fence in front :bat:

Hi Andy -

Moody - Not sure about #1 - it is on theme but the elements seem too indistinct

#2 - i like the composition and the clean lines of the building against the sky. Works well for me.

Thanks Alan, can you clarify what you mean by 'indistinct'? Greater tonal range perhaps?

Thanks all...

Hi, all just nipping into Leeds for a Costa...missed then on the TP 52 meet :D

I've decided to retire my Nikon for a few weeks to see if I can manage to photograph the themes on my phone. May not last long

Cheers and keep uip the cracking work

Week 24 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

This could have all gone terribly wrong, but thankfully you used your good side :D

Right, here's my Joy from the TP52 meet over the weekend.

Simply the Jog of being in the right place at the right time.

Cheers all and I will catch up on all your threads this week :D

Caught the golden hour...it was really fleeting, though, but, well, it was superb.

Also, having posted a weekly theme for the past 79 weeks I might have to pass on this week's reshoot. Just feel I need to collect some Brownie points after the weekend...worst case scenario.....grab shot :(
