Photo52 2011 - Wk 48 Cute added

Hi Tina,

The crop and colour of the second is much better.
You've done well controlling the light, but as has been said, the reflection on the centre part of the gem is a shame.

I'm no expert, but I'd be tempted to not shoot the box square in the frame and possibly try a slightly lower angle to get the side of the ring.
And, is that some black flecks of something on the lower right of the white padding?

A nice shot though and aren't you a lucky girl.
How many lenses could you get for it :naughty:

tina .. the colours on the 2nd are so much richer and gives a far more vibrant feel to the shot..love it.

Sorry Tina, but this hasn't saved the shot.
The main problem is the set up of the original shot. The subject matter is great, and so is the handling of the PP work on the edit. However, with close ups like this, the rules of photography still apply (well guide lines anyway). The straight on view I think would be better replaced by an oblique view, giving you lead in lines, drawing your eye to the ring.
The carpet needs to be a plain white non distracting surface (photocopier paper works well). The ribbon has too many frays on it, and isn't positioned sympathetically to the shot (again, could be used to lead the eye in from a corner). Oh, and there is blue fluff on the white cushion.

Now don't be too disheartened. As a theme it is good. As a technical execution of exposure, colour and balance, it is good. I just think the composure and location are wrong.

Being a shallow kind of chap, first thing I did was Google Mapplin & Webb....:gag:

Being a bloke...i didn't google anything... i sat back and waited for others to.. and it paid off.. i had time to open another pint aaannnddd the answer come forth...

but what struck me about your image was.. i think we have the same carpet as you...

Given the original was taken on a tea towel, I worry about your decor ;)

Hiya Tina,

Wow that is much better

The ring is stunning now that I can see the colours better. Pity about the light reflection on the centre of the ruby, but otherwise a lovely shot.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn

Hi Tina, as Dawn says, a lot better indeed . What did you do different this time?

Different angle and MUCH tighter crop.

Much better.

More vibrant. More focused.

Thanks

Moved closer...;)

And different lens

Much better. It's great and certainly does the ring more justice. Nice one T

Thanks Mart

I agree about the composition - NOW! Don't mention lenses...:(

Why would I hate someone who is trying to help me? I agree - NOW! At least I got the technical stuff, now for the art ;)

strange how options differ i like the first shot better it was more warm

I like this - I suppose it is technically weaving but the branches are twisted between the uprights

I think I may have chosen the wrong crop, but couldn't make my mind up :$ This was predominantly lit from above in an attempt to show it as not solid and lift some more detail. I think I seceded in releasing the detail.

Hiya Tina,

Spot on there gal! I think you have achieved your mission ... successfully.

I love the colours and detail and indeed it fits the theme swell

Cheers

I think quite a few people have used a bit of poetic licence with this theme, me included.

I like the colours in the wood and really like the branches.

I'd prefer a closer crop so only the branches were in the frame. I'd also like to see the nob the same distance from the left as it is from the bottom. Also, possible get the nob in focus?

I had a quick 90 degrees counter clockwise rotation and thought it had potential.

Cheers.

Thanks Neil and Andy. I agree that I prefer the lighting in the first, much better colours and texture. So I still have a lot to learn as I really should be able to repeat a shot like this...after all, nothing is running away

I could do more without the knob but I have to say I'm losing interest in my subject!!! Such a butterfly brain

Hiya Tina,

Just popping past to say I still prefer the first shot ... the colours are richer and the focus is more on the twists.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Def the first image. The colours are more intense and the focus on the twists is much better.

Hi Tina,

Nice twisted idea, if I'm honest I like the lighting of the first, but the composition of the second! The brown border I don't think adds anything, if it was black though.......

I think you are the first to notice the border  I just whacked it on to sort of close the image off. I think I agree with you, the lighting that I started with :thinks: If only I could remember what it was. And the composition of the second session.

Hi Tina, great shot for "twisted. I really like this one. The colours and patterns are lovely. I really like the directional lighting of the first one. Although I prefer the crop on the second version. Overall I like the first one.

This is a really pleasing image and perfect for the theme.

Hi Tina,
Cracker for 'twisted'.
great lighting, colour and dof.
real nice!

Hiya Tina,

It's amazing how many green photos are emerging for hidden :D

I like this photo, can't see what is hidden, unless it is a leaf hidden behind another leaf, or two little green berries?

BTW you need to change the subject/title on your starter post as it still reflects week 21 Twisted.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hehe. It constantly amazes me how many shades of green there are, and no, it's not a hidden leaf, exactly...

Thanks for reminding me about the title :bonk:

Something there but I can't quite make it out....could be something really close to the lens. I can see, I think, something like a reflection??

OOORRR the hidden could be you when you are taking the photograph??
