Photo52 2011 - Wk 48 Cute added

I know things are getting as topsy turvey here as in my house :$ Dining room is strewn with books as I decide what to keep and what to get rid, bedrooms in a state of flux as we redecorate them...so in consideration of the circumstances I present - Moderation

My re-shoot will get done when I make the space in which to do it :$

Hi Tina

does sound like chaos at your place at the moment

As per soggy I see where you're coming from with the idea behind your shot ( at least you had an idea...I'm still  ) but not sure about the framing/positioning ? The bit of the other glass showing on the right & that the placemat is not all in shot sort of let it down a bit . Sorry , hate sounding negative but trying to say things how I see them .

Hope you enjoyed drinking it after the shot

Hiya
I like the moderation shot, but, to me it doesn't scream moderation...
Well,it is a very full glass!

Sent from my iPad using TP Forums

It's in a glass? Eh...innit??? Norrin the bottle??? Another sign of moderation is that the glass wasn't empty...yet ;)

Not negative...maybe this is something I should learn? Not to rush at the idea like a bull in a china shop :$ The other glass is water...maybe I should have included it....

You could be forgiven for rushing this one - you wanted to drink it, not point a camera at it!

Not up to your usual standards.

I'm not seeing moderation here.

Crop's a bit off at the bottom and there's another glass to the right. Looks more like a glass full of bovril.. :)

So it's got to be a :whistling:

This did make me laugh, "Norrin the bottle???".

I stand corrected.

And I suppose it's not a very big glass...

Quite a small glass...I think

Never a good idea to rush is it :$ Must try harder :$
Thanks for looking, will do better ;)

Hi Tina,
Sorry to say your Moderation isn't doing it for me either. The whole composition in general really.
However, I haven't visited your 52 in a while and today is the first I have seen of your Trio. I really like that, great use of light and colour. The sharpness really captures the woodgrain too. The positioning of the three elephants in relation to each other really works for me. Great shot:clap:

Thanks Martin, I think we are all in agreement that my anticipation of the moderate quantity of wine means I shot a rotten image and did it no favours in the process!

Glad you like the elephants, I rather enjoyed taking them.

Seems a very moderate amount of wine to me ;)

Nice shot for "moderation" , but as others have said, not up to your usual standard. But perhaps understandable from everying else going on in your house:)

Just spotted your "trio" pic - really like it. Great lighting and really good detail in the figures. The cloth background works well. Creative use of a simple lighting setup which has worked well.

Thanks Patrick, I also feel it is a moderate amount of wine ;) Hope the blood test at the end of the week agrees ;) But agree the image is lacking a lot :$

Glad you liked my elephants

i love you take on delicate and i think the shot is stunning
you finish is very good too

I realise I'm doing a re-shoot out of sequence...but...life isn't a straight line

I lit these with my daylight lamp

Over lit this, the highlight is blown.

#2

This I feel might be too...darkish...

#3

With a little more thought I got this. To get rid of the blown highlight I softened the light with a piece of kitchen towel :D

I rather like this...I think :s

The knowledge I've acquired over these last three months is so much my head is throbbing trying to fit it all in. However I can't say that I can apply this. But I keep trying ;)

Hi Tina, After not being too kind about your original Moderation shot, it would be rude of me not to comment on your much improved version. You have nailed it there. I like the lighting in No3 and the subtlety of the contrasts.:)

Well worth redoing to see those improvements Tina, very well done. Agree with what has been said that the third shot is the pick but i also like the darker first image, it's just not quite as sharp as the third.

#3 for me. Nice, sharp and balanced.

Only minor point on this one is the few tiny drops of wine on the inside of the glass. I quite like the reflections.

Cheers.

Hiya Tina,

I seem to have missed your first post for moderation, and I think that your #3 of the re-shoot is a huge improvement, well done.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Tina, much prefer the reshoot. My favourite is the final one. The reflections are distracting though so maybe clone them out?

Ahhh, cloneing...another skill I need to improve :(

You weren't rude - it was...baaad :) Glad i demonstrate some improvement though ;) Thank you

I like the third one best, especially the lighting on the glass.

Thank you

Reshoot is a massive improvement..

Thanks

At least the drops were inside the glass and I got to drink them, licking outside of the glass always looks so...desperate ;)

Thanks Dawn, I'm amazed that you have time to look at any ;)

of Desire???

Not a personal desire but I know it is that of many. A local house in the farmland it 'owns'

Again, straight out of the camera with a little sharpen. This is a classic view from the Wirral Way. These fields are often occupied by horses and look really rather bucollic.

Hiya Tina,

Well done on posting week 13 and 14.

Both lovely photos and you have done well as they are straight out of camera. However both need a slight straighten.

I'd also do a very slight crop top and bottom to wk14 and perhaps adjust the contrast a tad.

You have captured the lovely blue sky well.

I wouldn't mind a how like that though out in the country :D

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Crikey! But you are quick :D

I was wondering about the bottom of 14 and as you say if I take that off then the top needs slicing to balance. Not sure i can straighten...at the moment I'm low on software :S

Hiya Tina,

I don't really have any fancy expensive software and mainly use Picknik or Picasa 3 (and on the odd occasion Lightroom3). You can download Picknik for free at http://www.picnik.com, why not give it a try. There is also the option to upgrade to a Premium account (at a minimal cost) where you can use all sorts of editing etc. And it is very easy to use.

You would be able to straighten your image using either of those that I have mentioned.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hiya Tina, 2 very nice shots there. Great for straight out of the camera! I agree with Dawn with regards to the extra pp. Here is another option for you, Photoscape, which is also free and a great piece of software too. I use this for my editing, not got any money for adobe.

How bizarre, just been reading a book by Michael Freeman and he does a section which involves a similar bench....

Anyway, I really like the composition, that is more space the the left hand side (front of bench) and the bottom. It really leads my eye into the bench and make it feel like I want to walk up and sit in it.

I had a tweak of your object. Land/Range Rover outside, made me laugh...

I'm glad parts of my brain key into such laudable folk as Michael Freeman :D

Yes that tweak is much better, I can see now...:$ You'll laugh even more when I say that vehicle has been there in that precise position for at least 3 months

Think the crit is done already. Two lovely images, great colours.
Isn't it great to be able to get out for walks in the sunshine again?

Tina, i think the only things that distracts me are the white fence up the LHS and the grey/white buildings (which isn't your fault, damn the planning dept for allowing that app through) .. i think the straight fence across would frame it nicely..

BUT saying that... i think if you got in close and portrait shot of the front door.. those pillar look rather interesting with the balcony above...sometimes the whole picture is not the picture you want.

In a way I agree with you, but have you ever heard of 'trespassers will be prosecuted'?, either that or the vicious dog will be after you

But yes Tina, that does look like a very interesting house and the owners might be quite happy for you to take some fab shots of their house if you asked them. After all it looks like a stunning building.

Cheers

Dawn :)

er.. you laughing at me girl!!...EVER heard of a long lens  ... and maybe digging a hole, covering it with branches and hiding in it...tying your camera to a stick and poking it up holding steady then taking a whizzy shot...

..and re: dogs... hey .. squeaky toys or steak... they're like putty in your hands...

..what..?

tina... the wine glass looks very appetitising??.. i think i'll need some before the end of the night with no theme in sight as yet... :D

whilst I have my new, new toy (OH not yet aware of cost of x2 extender to go on new 70-200 2.8L) But I was out walking two dogs, one off lead and the other with extending lead attached to leather belt...hence I prefer to use just my little siggie walkabout. No closer could be got...

I narrowly avoided being dragged down the bank by the attached Jack Russel

Okay ..... now I am confident in my thinking about what you do in your spare time (or should that be all the time :suspect:).

With such expert knowledge ........ hey what are you trying to do to our Tina :bat:

Tina .... if you follow Kev's tricks of the trade I'll be watching out for you on Crime Watch next week

Cheers
