Passing off other peoples work as yours ??

I dont see why anyone would rip off images anyway because in the end, they themselves know it isnt their own work and that, therefore, any comments are not actually praising them, but rather, the original photographer etc. I am assuming the thread is suggesting someone is posting others' work as their own as opposed to someone copying ideas for work, which everyone does as in the end, there are only so many ways certain subjects can be shot.

Anyways...

I read somewhere that nothing is original these days as everything has been done, what set you apart is how you approach it and execute it. That is where the genius lies.

agreed. Seems to happening more and more recently, and it spoils an otherwise happy community.

[S2]Maybe my baptism of fire in one of the most agressive forums in the uk has warped my view point of other forums, but this isn't even close to upsetting , unhappy or antagonistic.[/S2]

Is anyone with me on this?

:tumbleweed:

So... If I took a shot that I genuinely believed to be my idea and then later found an almost identical shot how would that fit in with this plagiarism thing?

I came up with an idea of taking a shot of a dandelion head blocking out a setting sun, but never actually took it then some weeks later I saw exactly the same image as a winner in a photo mag  around about the same time I was reading 'understanding exposure' and again the same type of image appeared in that book :D So how would you deal with that situation if the image had been taken and posted here before finding the other published pics?

This seems to be making a lot of people angry which is sad. Someone should close this.

I would imagine at least a few are sitting there thinking, 'Is it me the finger is pointed at?', lol.

Interesting theory by the OP and if I spotted somebody posting somebody else's work and passing off as their own I'd be tempted to contact the real photographer and inform them of the wrong doing.

The standard of photography on this site is so high (I'm not including myself here :D) that perhaps some people could possibly doubt the true origin of work...Of course when they've hung around a while they'll probably realize the true calibre of Talk Photography members.

puts whip back in closet!
I caught myself saying 'tbh' the other day. Needless to say I slammed my genitals in the car door as a warning to myself.

Jeeeze you people play rough! :D

Me? I alway nick other peoples images. its far cheaper than buying a cam'ra and all the other assorted worthless stuff

Your right there Chris, so much easier using other people stuff than crawling through nettles, brambles, undergrowth to get that elusive picture of a sparrowhawk or Goshawk or whatever the hell it is..........:D

I think the real problem here is what is discussed in IRC, and how it gets back to this board as "openly discussed" when it certainly isn't.
Personally, I have no interest in IRC or the thumb in the bumhole nudge nudge wink wink say no more back stabbing that clearly goes on there.

As this thread is about honesty ( or lack of it) I guess it would be better
if you said what you meant and not beat about the bush? :D

What is IRC please?.............

so if someone asks you to take a picture of them in a certain pose or situation that they have seen before and liked the look of, is this ripping off someone elses work or is it providing your customers with the service they want ???

Ideas are often copied, in the history of art there are many examples of one picture looking similar to another. We all do it without thinking.

Watch 2 people in a pub having a drink, how often do they take a drink at the same time, are there heads tilted in the same direction. Its all to do with the way we think. (NLP - for those in the know).

So are we saying that sometimes a picture turns up that might look like one that was in a magazine? Well whats wrong with that? If you took the shot then surely thats ok. Part of it is the way we learn. Think of how we learn a language.

Maybe I missed something here, but if thats what were on about then Keep copying

One more thing I would like to add, If my mint image is good enough to be considered 'from a magazine' then...

YOU BETTER VOTE FOR IT! now you have found out its not! :)

I have been accused of much worse, so this poxy accusation is hardly the worst of my problems and t be honest its a bit of free minty advertising.

:)

Would just like to say that I have the Mag that it is claimed to be copied from (Digital Camera April 2008) altough the shot is similar, the one in the mag is from a diferent angle and diferent compisition.

Seems to me that the OP should put up or shut up. Unless the intention was to be deliberately provocative and get everyone's backs up! Which it seems to have done.......

So can the OP be more specific? Or is it just a game?

:nono:

Hmmm, spooky, I don't even get that magazine. I may have read it in a shop but I doubt it.

This set took three packs of polo's and a black marker pen (blackcurrant polos from fruit polo's are just not black enough).

As I said it was done for a contrast exercise for my C&G Course (The third pack was spearmint, only because I like them and it gave me an excuse to eat them as I was taking images)

You have grasped the wrong end of a VERY long stick :)

Gary.

Well, I've just worked my way through this thread and it just sounds like someone was mischief making with a big wooden spoon with absolutely no evidence. I'd forget it and go watch the Tennis , if I were you!

It's inevitable that if you go to somewhere well know...Lakes, Scotland, Yosemite, London etc, you are bound to get a shot just like someone else's'....(mountains and lakes very rarely move in my experience). If I take a black and white shot of El Capitan, does that mean I am plagerising Ansel Adams? Of course it doesn't.......just trying to learn from the Master.

Hundreds of togs go to zoo's and wildlife centres every year, so at some point we are all likely to have similar shots of Lions and Tigers. So what?

Unless you can actually prove beyond all reasonable doubt that an image was not taken by the person posting........shut up!

....goes to lie down in darkened room with G&T.....

We're all going to be in the poop then on 12th July

<---------- I'm a photo copier !

Oh well such is life, Oh I didn't do it on purpose btw :)

PS. I stole the photocopier image.

Well, i'm not going to name but thiers an image in this months competition that is very very similar to a image in Bryan peterson's book about exposure, obviously i'm not 100% about it being the same as I can't find the digital version but I also think, sometimes photo's can end up similar!!

Just looked in the magazine and saw the image referred to - it was a monthly prize winner! I think yours is better scott...

btw - thanks and I just found tha photomatix tutorial in the mag that I have been trying to find for ages.

Well this thread is serving absolutely no purpose and is just stirring it IMO, creating bad feeling and tension amongst our community.

If anyone has any legitimate concerns about the originality of a members photo, then they should contact the member concerned, in private.

If anyone has any concerns and can link to proof that someone is passing someone elses work off as their own, then they can contact the staff using the RTM button under each post.

Until then, thread closed.
