Official Talk Leica thread

I'm with Immo, M9s for me not interested in anything newer.

Why M9 and not for example latest 11? I'm curious, never had Leica, but maybe in 20 years when I get my pension I may get on eof those weird small cameras :)

The M9 was the first full frame digital M and although it had it's issues it is still the only one that has the same kind of natural light illumination for the framelines so has the same appearance as the earlier film Ms. It also has an 18mp CCD sensor that renders as close to film looks that I have experienced (but with cleaner files), coupled with the slide film like dynamic range and limited ISO range it is just like using film (for me) but with a more convenient workflow. There is no live view and the screen is almost useless for checking anything other than exposure (using the histogram in the info menu) and basic composition.

Hi, Topsy was quicker, and I fully agree with him. - If you start using Leica,, you could start with a newer model, of course.

I still use my M8 quite a lot especially with the 50mm - portraits of grandchildren ......... although I must admit my D850 with the Nikon 105mm f/1.4 and AF is a lot quicker to capture those "moments" - not sure if I will ever feel as comfortable with my M240 as I do with the M8 which I have had for years

Been enjoying manual focus of late. Partly because it is more enjoyable than tolerating the hit or miss autofocus of the q3, plus Leica also made it a rather pleasing tactile experience, compared to say, Sony..

Morning coffee. 4MP crop from 60. I love this about the camera, so much detail and information to work with. I think I probably preferred the x100v as an every day camera, and will probably buy another, but I needed to get the shot just right. Cropping in and things fell apart fairly rapidly.
