OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

This isn't about something new I have, but something new I'd like. I put up a post on the Wanted forum, and thought it's possible someone on here might have a Carl Zeiss Distagon T*35mm f/2 for Pentax K-mount, sitting lonely on a shelf somewhere, but not noticed that post!

A Bilora Bella 46 made 4x6 exposures on 127 film. A good example of style over function, shutter speeds of B, 50, 100 (with no discernible difference between 50 and 100).
Apertures of 11 and 8, two element lens (which are easy to clean up) and a curved film plane. Nicely made in Germany, but rubbish spec.
Might make for some interesting images. I will modify it for 35mm film and try it out.

Well trying to get my mojo back taking photos but erm in two cycle rides I only took 3 shots on my F4 o_O...anyway ordered a Tokina 17mm to play with and it was on an extension tube, why use a 17mm lens? and the only reason I can think of is depth of field?. Anyone interested in what I think of this lens would probably have a long wait unless I start using film more, :rolleyes: or go to https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tokina-sl-17-17mm-f-3-5.html

Sounds like a nice wide lens Brian, just out of interest what is the minimum focus distance?

Well should get the lens from 18th to 21st and it's about 25cm. But a proper macro lens is better and I have one so wont bother using the extension tube.
 
Sounds NIce MF lens,

There are plenty Macro shots on a bike, I met a pro photographer on a racecourse once, he gave me a tip. He told me to take the minimum amount of information in the photo possible, yet still convey a day out at the races. I ended up taking a photo of the iron gate with a horse and racecourse written below.

Get a race number for the bike lean it against a tree with you stood behind the tree having a .............

Of course it will need a timer or something. Does F4 have one?

Well it must have, I'm not an expert on the F4 and just wanted an AF camera that could also take my pre AI lenses and my F90x can't..and Canon AF cameras wont take all my manual focus lenses :headbang: The Canon T90 has a timer but it aint AF.
 
Zone focus is your friend.

on those old lenses they even put a distance/depth of field scale.
 
Very few people use 16mm film cameras, even fewer folk want to wet print from a 10 x 14mm negative. I am that person so it was highly likely the only prospective UK purchaser was me.

It's a Mamiya "Enlahead" which replaces a standard enlarger lens. It's v clever - the lens is 25mm, has a built in condenser along with a fine focuser as well as the usual aperture ring. It comes with the 16mm neg holder/mask. It says it's good up to 10" x 12" enlargements. I'm guessing (early?) '60's made.

I don't think it's ever been used. The original protective oil has pooled and partially dried on the neg holder and where it fits into the head. That will clean easily but if it's dripped onto the upper lens element that will be trickier to get off.

The rear of the box has a hand written price label of £7 - 13 - 8, so expensive in its day. I paid £13.38 delivered. I'm pleased.

I'll give it a test run on my 35mm enlarger this evening. :)
 
The price puts it pre the St Valentine's Massacre of the Currency (predecimalisation to some) of 1971, and post August 1959 since it references the Mamiya 16. I suspect if you scan the BJP Almanac for 1960 to 1965 or so, you may find it. The BJP Almanac changed from a text review of the year to a picture book mid 60s (I think).

Edited to fix date. I'm tapping on a tablet (cue George Formby song for the older members) and whenever I hit 1 it turns out as a 2. I corrected most, but missed 1971...

I was just a few months old at decimalisation but learned pounds, shilling and pence from my grandma.

She carried a "ready reckoner" in her bag til the day she died. Many a time she would be buying something (often an ice cream or toy for me) or looking at prices in a shop window and out would come the increasingly battered reckoner swiftly followed by a proclamation of "How much!!". :) :)

I could look up the, say the 1962, price of this piece of kit on some online inflation calculator but I bet it was as much as or more than my gran was earning a week in a hospital kitchen!
 
In 1968, £7/13/8 (£6.67) would have bought 12.24 lbs (just over 5 1/2 kilos in funny weights) of fillet steak (12/6 or 62.5p per pound). That's actual prices from the local butcher, not hypothetical from an inflation indicator.

I believe I have all the relevant BJP Almanacs in printed form for the relevant years, but they are not easily accessible. As far as I've found, scanned pdfs only go up to 1954.

I have considered that combination... briefly! I have used a couple of M42 lenses on my K-mount Pentaxes. The results from my Meyer-Optik Orestor were fantastic, but I didn't enjoy the experience. I've just had a look at some images from that lens and they were lovely, so I'm regretting it a bit!
 
Well the Tokina 17mm f3.5 has arrived and was amazed how small it is, quick look and it looks in mint condition and everything works so far. Now for a comparison test between the Tokina and my Canon 19mm and 20mm lenses, and was thinking of digging out my Nex 3 with FD adapter as it would be silly to waste a roll of film with dev costs etc.
This is the lens I bought after a bit of haggling from £99 and got it for £84 inc del:-

Given up using Nex 3 and fD adapter as the fd lens seems to fit one way on the adapter but getting the message "don't recognise lens fit the lens on properly" :(

I seem to recall having a similar error message when I used a lens adapter on a Nikon DSLR. I think I resolved it by changing a setting in one of the menus, although I can't remember the specifics.

Looking on the net, I'm not the only one confused on how to use a fotga FD adapter plus I've forgotten how to use a Nex 3 :rolleyes: so can't be bothered when I can use FD lenses on my Canon SLRs
 
Isola has arrived. It's the single shutter speed model with the built in yellow filter. Will be interesting to see whether I accidentally use the yellow filter on colour film...

Also forgot you have to pull the front out to check the shutter works. DOH.

The little known Hasselblad stereo adapter?:exit:
 
The Exakta had a device called the Magnear that fitted into the viewfinder mount; then you could plug a taking lens onto it and use that to magnify the viewfinder image. Perhaps that's what the Hasselblad's extra standard lens is for?

well having had to return 2 to Private sellers for undisclosed faults; I bought a 3rd from a Business at a bit more money
who listed ''CLA'd and serviced'' ..........and it's MINT
even the lens markings are as-new, as is the ER case
Seller also added original box and brochures....................:banana:

learnt a lesson with last 2 eBay private sellers - now buying, if possible, fully-serviced or CLA examples. Cost a bit more but gets rid of hassles.

As there’s been a few Hasselblad posts here recently, does anyone have a recommendation they’ve personally used for getting them serviced? I know my 80mm needs attention as some of the shutter speeds are off (but workable) and it certainly needs new seals and the film back I have doesn’t always wind on, generally have to do it manually…

I might be able to replace the back for less than getting it fixed (it’s an older pre-A12 one) but the kit has sentimental value to me.

I guess that I have a liking for Balda cameras and Kodak Retinas, but as Balda are pretty cheap, I have a bunch of them.
This Baldamatic 1 arrived some weeks ago. It looks in almost mint condition, which helps me to believe that it was faulty soon in it's life and then not used.
The VF had something wrong and the RF didn't work. As it was poor weather, I had a look in there and found one of the mirrors and one RF spot lens adrift.
I fixed them in place and calibrated the rangefinder. The shutter works well at all speeds above 1/8th. It's ready to try out.

I have another like this, equipped with a Baldanar 3 element lens. This has the Xenar 4 element lens, which I understand is a Tessar style of lens.

"Xenar" was used by Schneider for some Tessar type lenses - just as Leitz used "Elmar". In Rudolf Kingslake's book there is a list of 21 makers of Tessar type lenses, with 29 different names in use, and a cautionary note that not all lenses using these names were of Tessar construction. There is also a list of a further 9 names where the Tessar arrangement of elements was inverted...

I noticed that I only see four sets of reflections from the front set of elements (there's one lens behind the shutter).
Are there three lenses in the front group but two being bonded together?
