OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

There will be markings on the film back that align with the window in your camera. All 645 cameras have their window in the same place. This will differ from where the window is in a 6x6 or 6x9 camera. So each of the line of markings coincide with the correct format.

Couple of extra toys turned up this morning.

Been after a decent Minolta 85mm prime for a while. It's not a focal length I use a lot so I haven't rushed in to the first one I saw.

The one I saw advertised looked to be from a genuine seller and was bundled with a Minolta SRT101. Given the prices, I'd almost settled on getting an f/2, but this was the earlier f/1.7 and included the relatively rare (original) lens hood.

The camera has known issues - the focus screen is cracked - but I was never buying it to get the camera. As the the package was a similar price to just lenses, and was being offered with free postage, I thought I'd give it a punt.

Now it's arrived, I'm not sure if I'll keep the camera. It needs batteries so I've ordered some and I have several rolls of film so will probably run a roll through it to see how it performs. If nothing else, the camera is a beautiful thing.

Almost forgot this that came a few weeks back.

Reverse connector for Minolta fit cameras. Allows you to secure the lens to the camera body backwards (as opposed to just free-lensing) for Macro work.

Doesn't fit all lenses, but will fit a good proportion on MDIII lenses with the 49mm filter thread.

I forgot to mention this new addition. A Contax III from 1953. Arrived last week and already has half a roll through it. The sellenium meter works and a dry run through the shutter speeds with the film back off showed no obvious problems.

Logo at the top of their web site says in partnership with Max Spielmann, I did not know that they were still in business.
Tesco also use Max and wouldn't suprise me if Boots used them as well.

''must stop looking on eBay''
That's not the attitude to take, you might find something really nice stuff on there soon, I've decided to sell on the majority of my collection.20250524_143618.jpg

In case you couldn't figure it out from the pictures.
This a Tachihara 4x5" brass and cherry wood large format camera.

I just need a compatible copal 3 lens panel.

Whilst I have a lens that will work with the camera it is in a Copal 3 shutter.
Sadly, the board that comes with the camera is copal 0 and I have no way of matching a 65mm hole.

So if anyone has a spare Toyo/Wista style board that has a Copal 3 hole in it? I'll gladly buy if off you.

I had a black Tachihara a few years ago and to be honest I didn't really like using larger shuttered lenses on it. Wasn't stable enough since the bellows and focusing rack were pretty much at their limits with the lenses I had (a 300mm and a 240mm). Its happy spot was with Copal 0/1 shutters.

Stick your request in the wanted section of the "market place" please Tony... while I appreciate it's a "film specialised" thing, if we don't remind you, we'll get no end of people complaining about us operating "2 tier modding" (from the people who've been trying to sell in various fora usually)...

Ok, I have been told. My bad. Sorry.
I will self flagellate for my sins.

It never really occurred to me to do that. It's the price I pay for being really old.

@soupdragon That is beautiful.
I think so too.
The down side of cameras like this (or any big cameras) is the passers by.
You know, "Ooooo! that looks like an old camera! does it take pictures?"
Or, "Can I see what you're seeing?"
Or, "I'm not a professional but........"
Or, "That's proper old school"

The list goes on.

It's not that I mind people showing an interest, in fact I think it's a good thing. But when you have taken a light reading and set the lens, it is a bit distracting.

That camera is genuinely stunning.

When I had a 4x5, I didn't like that I had to put the camera bag down to fiddle about with the camera, and passing dogs kept wanting to pee on the bag! (I did keep them all at bay, Nige, honest!)

Had a bit of a mad day,

Yashica MG1
Ricoh 35 ZF
Ricoh 500 ZF
Yashica EE
Yashica 230 AF
Olympus 35 RD
Yashica GSN

I need some cheap films to check seals etc. Whats the cheapest film in uk at moment for 10 rolls?

I have dropped on with the Yashica GSN.

Camera, tripod, tele lens adapter, wide angle adapter, adapter viewing prism, indoor filter for colour correcting outdoor colour film and another filter which I have been unable to identify.

Full set up in almost unused collector condition with crystal clear glass.

Its about time I had a bit of luck. Still, I bet I can balls it up. :)

You won't be disappointed, I had one a while back and the low light performance is spectacular, pictures by candlelight no problem.

That's good to hear Peter, I will run a roll through it in the coming days, I have a feeling the light seals will need doing as they are a bit sticky and crumbly. Fitted a new battery last night and went into the garden to test the meter, (night time darkness) and trying my best could just get the yellow light to come on, it still wanted to take a picture!

The Olympus 35RD (back to normal) had a sticky and jamming self timer so had to strip that, clean and lube did the viewfinder whist I had it apart and then when re-assembling snapped the flash wiring. DOH.

I have had a 65mm Grandagon-N f4.5 mounted in a Prontor Pro 01 shutter. I have always liked the ease of use of this shutter.

Then I discover they made a dedicated twin cable remote for it. Managed to find one and was delivered yesterday, this thing takes it to the next level.

Got me thinking should I try and find Prontor shutters for my other lenses.

A few days laid up at home with a bad back (getting much better now...) and a curiosity about fantastic plastic cameras, other than my favourite Pentax MZ cams had me buying a few to play with. All very cheap or ridiculously cheap.

Minolta Dynax 404si
Minolta Dynax 300si (for the lens)
Minolta Dynax 500si (for the lens)
Minolta Dynax 5 'cos the spec is outrageous and it was very cheap.
Minolta Dynax 5 in case the first is faulty and it was ridiculously cheap (bid a min bid which carried)
They haven't all arrived yet.
Bought a Pentax MZ-6 with faulty mirror motor and a MZ-7 (same fault) on the strength that my recent repair of my MZ-5 might work for these too (tried the repair, it failed, so I have two more shelf queens).

I may need help....

Just ordered a reducing frame and 5x7 back for my Canham 10x8 camera. Given that I already have a Canham 5x4 reducing back for a 5x7 I'm hopeful that this means I can cover all sizes with 1 camera.

The downside is that, in computer terms, it's both IBM and ICL - it's being made and it's coming later, which is what I understand the three letter acronyms to mean.

I spent all evening thinking about what that could be used for in home brew, ( thought it was a weird beer chiller) and similarily thinking how easy it is to design and make a film drying cabinet after a film took longer than expected to dry, the two trains of thought never met until this morning. Now I know I will keep my eye out for a cabinet and make one of those.

Some set up you have Fraser.

Here's the cheapskate's "coffin" version.

It's got a 40w heater at the bottom. Takes a 35mm 36exp in a single length. Works better than it looks!

Contains 2 x 120, 2 x 36exp 35mm plus 2 x Minox (9.2mm).

And how the bloody hell have you got one of my 120 strips?

That one on the left with all the missing images, i thought only me managed to take those lovely clear pictures
