Whew, I've finally done it! I have taken the plunge into medium format! I am now the proud and very excited owner of a Bronica SQ-A.
It only took selling several cameras, negotiating with HMRC to recover some overpaid tax, and auctioning off unused goods on eBay over the last couple of weeks to amass the money to purchase it.
The camera is in really good condition and I'm really enjoying the waist level finder. My only complaint is that the darkslide seems a bit fiddly in that it must be inserted into the slot perfectly, otherwise the shutter still fires. Unfortunately, I wasted a whole roll of film before I realised that... oh well, now I know to look out for this.
Anyway, pictures below of my new toy:

Very nice! I really like my Bronica. With the dark slide, unless you're using more than one back, maybe it would be better just to put it way somewhere safe?

I have had the same problem with both a Bronica ETRS and a Mamiya RB67. They will both fire the shutter if the darkslide is out about 1/4".
I now leave them at home as you can still change the film without taking the film back off of the camera.
Steve.

As for the SQ-A, if the shutter operates like on the ETRS then looking at the camera from the front ( ie lens facing you), turning the outer ring located around the shutter button fully clockwise will render the shutter release "locked" regardless of wether the darkslide is in place or not.
Perhaps this will help those who find the darkslide probmatic.

Of all the film cameras I have owned over the last few years, the only one I truly regretted selling was a Nikon F2 Photomic. It had a 24mm lens that was a tad too wide for my tastes, and I had no other lenses so it was difficult to photograph much with the pairing. Despite that, the camera itself was a sensation, it was solid and a superb piece of machinery.
I have replaced it with a black F2A, which works with all my AI lenses obviously. It's superb!
Excellent, F2A's are very fine instruments, we need to see pictures![]()
Thanks Baz and Adrian!
Just loaded all three with some Agfa Vista, they're gonna get a run out over the weekend hopefully!

Portrait is landscape and versi visi err vsisi vers... tother way round!

It's a beauty. Really are great bits of kit. New purchase ?
Here's my new camera. I'm delighted with it.Please forgive the modern strap - don't want to risk the leather one that came with it!

is £150 for Nikon F5 a good price ?
The only one I've seen recently was for sale at £249 so depending on condition, it could be.

Now that looks fantastic. One of my all time lusts.
A smart idea - not worth it for the possibility of brittle leather sending your camera to the ground. Looks like a lovely clean example, look forward to seeing the shots from it!
The Rollei makes up the majority of the photography I do.
Oh that is an absolute corker, it looks almost new. You have found a great example there.
Still hunting for one myself, not rushing and waiting for the right one at the right price to appear!

Those look good to me skysh4rk. Looking at those bottles of sauce made me feel Ill, tried that insanity sauce once and it nearly blew my head off!!
Maybe there are some other "less abrasive" types of brass cleaner ....last thing you want to do is ruin your new toy by keeping it polished up.
