OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

I've got a selection of AF-D lenses i can use with it although I have to confess that I've got my eye on a couple of more "classic" F/2 lenses........I must stay strong and resist temptation!:D

I might be selling most of my Nikon stuff soon. :( Don't want to but it's a bit daft for me to have three different 35mm systems. They don't get enough use. I'm in a 120 phase at the moment.
:)

I like the Nikons but the Olympus OM kit is lighter so I might keep it. I also have some Leica R but the non standard filter sizes are a bit of a pain.

Strange how we have different phases....Much of my gear is restricted to a 50mm focal or equivalent of which usually doesn't pose me an issue, however atm i'm having a "wider" phase .....sort of 35mm and 28mm ish

that's why I never get rid of any kit unless I absolutely have to - I know i'll end up coming back to it, and regret selling...

Funny this subject should come up; I've been meaning to sell my OM bits and build up my Nikon kit. I'm also going to take my T90 to the London meet to see if I want to hang on my FD collection.

Or I might sell my D70 and get an NEX7 and a bunch of lens adapters...

Or sell a lot of kit to fund more 120 purchases...

Same here Mark......T'is why there's no spare space left in our home:|

 4 houses, all full... okay, 3 of 'em have tenants in, and are my "pension fund", but one of them is a 4 bed house, and it's let as a 2 bedroom, with the other 2 locked, secured on a separate alarm system, and stacked with most of my "worldly goods", in case I ever get to move back into that place again.

True - I sold a full Nikon kit through Ffordes a few years ago and ended up buying a similar setup again!

Kind of regret selling my Contax 35mm kit too. Great lenses but the bodies handling didn't suit me.

There is something unbelievably quaint about the Rollei bayonet filters. The leather cases are definitely something, just make sure you clean them first because they can have 50 years of dirt!

I know right!? ;)

And what was your address again Mark :).

Some decisions are hard to make. Others are made for you ...

Walking past LCE in Reading and saw this in the window. Had a closer look and it's mint, doesn't look as though it's ever been used! Priced comparable to the ones I've seen listed at Ffordes and on ebay, though buying in person meant I could get 10% off for cash too. :D

So I guess this'll be coming to London with me tomorrow instead of my T90, along with my 50mm f/1.8D as that's the only full-frame AF lens I have.

Erm, anyone want to buy a recently serviced T90 and a bunch of lenses? :bonk:

Those F100s look like superb bits of kit. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!

Recently bought an F100 and am really enjoying using it, indeed it is out and about more than any other camera of mine at the moment. You will enjoy I am sure!

Ooh, very nice Nikon porn........ There will 2 F100's on show tomorrow then.

my f90x will see its older brothers then ;)

Well my experiments with rangefinders have not yet been impressive, but I like the concept. My Canonet has a good patch, but focusing is a lever protruding under the lens. For me particularly the ergonomics are awkward compared with a camera where you hold/twist the lens (thus lending support to the right hand gripping the camera and firing the shot). The (much older) Ikonta I tried this weekend had an almost invisible RF patch; I ended up just estimating distances!

Yeah, the patch is very faint. Focusing is ok in good lighting but low light it's going to be more of a guess job. love the camera though, so happy.

Jonathan's ex OM20 and good 50mm lens arrived the other day. It had the dred OM sticky shutter where the shutter stays open for a bit too long. Managed to get it opened up and bathed the electromagnet in meths and gave it a light scrub with a cotton bud. Seems to work fine at the moment, just running a roll of vista through to double check.

Took the opertunity to take a family photo, some one will tell me when to stop with these. Yes??

I look forward to your OM-40 purchase!

As some of you may have seen in the Classifieds, I purchased an Olympus mju 1 after a long spell of no new cameras. It has a roll of Gold 200 in it, and will be used for general snapshots.

Not sure the 40 fits the aesthetic of the other 4.

Keep looking at the single digits om's but they go for relative mega bucks.

Got my first proper TLR today, a gorgeous Mamiya C33:

Could probably do with new light seals, and a bit of a clean, but for £80 it seemed like a bargain! Now to read the manual and load some film into it :)

Nice one, Charlotte!

I fancy having a go at the square format. I must say I'm drawn to it. I guess a TLR is the cheapest way to try it but I have a hankering for a Hasselblad! :)

Well done Charlotte, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Is that the 80mm lens? I think you have got a bargain there, £80....wow.

It is, I can't believe how close it focuses! I've spent most of the evening picking things to focus on and then getting drool on the viewing screen. £80 and £20 petrol, not bad!

Was that on Gumtree? If it was, thanks for buying it because I was getting tempted!

Cheers

Ive just bought a nice black Canon Ae1 off ebay, its listed as wont fire but not been tested with a battery in it so i just hope its that, else i'll be taking the poor thing apart.
Its a my first film slr so really looking forward to it when it comes, I've ordered a new battery but need to try and get to my local poundshop soon to get some film for a meet this weekend to try it out.

Yes they do focus really close, that's bellows for ya

S'pose you'll be in the market for parramender, exceptionally useful for close-ups, mine was a cow to acquire though....as I remember

It was! I was surprised no-one else nabbed it first.

@Joxby - I saw mention of one of those in the manual... to be honest I don't really know what one is :/

it's a gizmo that fits between the tripod and the camera and allows you to raise/drop the camera body by a specific amount to take into account the parallax effect of the 2 lenses being stacked one above the other - in tight(ish) closeups the framing can be out because the "taking lens" is below the "viewing lens" and is getting a slightly higher view on the subject.

Ahh - there's a line that appears in the viewfinder that appears when you focus close to something, that tells you where the top of the photo really is. I assume with a paramender, it'd drop the camera sufficiently to get the framing right?

iirc, you frame it with the paramender lowered, get the composition right, then raise the "taking lens" to the height that the "viewing lens" was at and press the cable-release.

(it's been a Loooooooooong time since I used one of those... as in I was at school at the time!)

Oh yeah, that'd make more sense! Cheers - there's a couple on the 'bay, I'll keep an eye on them :)

I bought an Agfa Isolette II 6x6 folder from this here forum for around £20, IIRC. Results are a little hit and miss because it's zone focussed and you have to meter separately but it's not that bad if you just want to try medium format.

Be warned though, consumption of MF film can lead to TLRs and an unhealthy desire for Hasselblad goodness ;)

Thanks Dean. I do have a couple of medium format cameras but they are both 6x4.5 but it's the 6x6 I want to try. Maybe a folder is a good first step.

I had a go with the travelling Nettar which was fun but not seen the results yet.

For close up work a paramender is very useful saves a lot of guessing how high to lift the centre bar of your tripod. I had one with me on saturday at the Greenwich but everyone just took the pee out of me for being OCD......probably correct.

Hey, with the price of buying/devving 120 film, I'm ok with being called OCD!

Yep, best not to waste any shots.
