In my opinion, the D800 is an easy to use camera. It gave me decent results from day one. The main problem is the guy behind the viewfinder ;-)
That would be me then!

I find it just as easy to use as my old D90. I don't get all this "unforgiving" talk that we see on forums. I've never felt that it is.

As for crop-ability, this here is a massive crop, the bird was way up in a tree above me when shooting, and longest i had was my 150mm sigma:
I mean, seriously, on the full image the bird was a dot
Has anyone else ever had the D800 image preview hang on them?
Once or twice a day, on pressing the 'play' button to view the last shot, I just get an egg-timer. If I keep trying, I get nowhere. I have to power cycle before it will let me view the photo.
I thought maybe it's a memory card issue. I'm using a posh Lexar Pro 1000x 16GB card. I usually buy Sandisk, so it's new to me. I also have a 16GB Sandisk Extreme SDHC in as an overspill.
Anyway, I am interested to know if this is a known problem, and if there's a fix.
Can we see the uncropped image please
I have a similar example if it helps at all:
Not bad at all, not bad at all.

That's the same with any camera I feel, I don't see why the D800 gets this rep for being more stubborn/awkward/unforgiving - when you can always up your ISO to get that bit faster exposure. I really think it offers very usable images, in most situations, up to 6400! and if you can't get a decent shutter speed up to that range, then re-think that shot maybe![]()
That is pretty impressive.. are you using the D800 or have you just not bothered updating your camera equipment in your profile?? It still shows a 7D..
Changed to Nikon a month ago. Need to update my equipment list!

micloi's example is even better though.

Cheers, pretty much full frame withthe 300 F4 and 1.4 tc.That is a stunning pic Ade....
Like me for the sports Ade, while it might have the AF of the D4 it just doesn't seem to cut it like the D700/D3/D3SCheers, pretty much full frame withthe 300 F4 and 1.4 tc.
But, I have the exact same settings in both my 700 and 800, the 700 is superb, the 800 is worse. I have tried upping the shutter speed to 1/4000 and above, but I just cannot get birds in flight right with it. It must be something that I am doing wrong, the lenses are fine, the bodies are, unless I have missed something new to the D800.
I have tried single point focus,9 and 21 point, it just does not deliver in flight shots like the 700.
I`ll keep practising and trialling new settings,i`ll get there.
Nah then Gary, we are either both right about the AF,both wrong or both crap photographers then..................Like me for the sports Ade, while it might have the AF of the D4 it just doesn't seem to cut it like the D700/D3/D3S
I think that is the problem i`m encountering Pete,if you could dig up the thread,I would appreciate it.I'm not sure what exactly has changed or exactly what it is,but I'm sure there were posts on FM forums regarding focus trap not being on the d800 but on the d700.
Something about using bk button focus and even if set to focus it will release the shutter regardless. I may be well of the mark though, will see if I can dig up the thread.

Here is one Gary, shot in DX mode.
The DX mode was one of the reasons I went for the 800 Michael. I got fed up of waiting for the fabled D300 replacement ,high ISO capable ,new crop body.Lovely shot and detail
Cheers fellas, time to do some reading up methinks.
Using a Pixel Vertax one here.... with 8x Sony Eneloop batteries I reckon that's a better combo than a EN-EL18, especially as the eneloops can retain a charge for a very long time unused.
Fracster, Bastic, please stop! I haven't really got a spare £2000 at the mo, and your shots aren't helping me!![]()
