Nikon D750 & D780

.... the D750 is an utter bargain just now for what it does!
It always has been to be fair!

For the first time in my life I am not thinking about a Camera upgrade or itching in terms of camera GAS. That says a lot for the D750 - at least for me. Need to shoot a hell lot and push it to it's limits before I find any real shortcomings and I have a feeling I won't find one soon enough unless it dies on me.

I keep getting tempted to get a D810, but that's just GAS, I know I'd regret it, especially with the lack of AA filter for wedding suits. But, I'd love one for the IQ for portraits and landscapes. Like you say though, I'm yet to find a shortcoming of the D750

You sure?

When I looked the body was made of rubber and nozzle silica gel. Hard plastic would be too rigid I would of thought for the design.

I must be mixed up in my terminology then. I worked in mono, 3, 5 & 7 layer plastic manufacturing for nearly twenty years and the nozzle I have on my Giottos Blower wouldn't be classed as hard plastic, for the industry I was in.

Ditto. Quite content at the moment...

Perhaps. The nozzle is supposed to be rigid to direct the air flow. Its a 'solid' non flexible material nozzle. I wouldnt like to scrap it across my sensor or focusing screen.

I have just had a good quote on my camera and some lenses, which would enable me to buy the D810. I wanted one at the beginning when I came from the XT1 but it was just out of my price range. I'm going to be unable to use my camera for a while with my op's next week, but I want to get into more land/seascapes when recovered, as I'm getting bored of shooting small garden birds at home. Doing more Landscapes will get me, to get off my backside and out of the house more.

Is it just a niggle in my head or GAS, and the revival of the D8** thread isn't helping.

Why dont you save a few quid and get a D800?

I think the AF is a better AF system over the older models? Also, what I like, is there's more dampening of shutter and more quiet which may help me. It's a want camera rather than a need, but it's been playing on my mind for a good while, well over a year since I made the switch back to Nikon and the D750.

I could go out and buy it, and hate it compared to the D750??........I need to make a decision by Monday as I have the ops on Tuesday.

Yeah, the AF is better but the D800 isnt exactly poor.

Seems more like GAS mate. If I were you I would try it before selling the D750.

Sometimes I get that feeling as well, but not the same way I got serious itching for FF and then from D600/610 where I was always feeling a little more can get me a well rounded and featured camera and the D750 is exactly that.

The D810 to me is a nice to have DSLR as it is indeed a great camera, but for what I shoot, I think I am fine. I also think for landscape D810 is better, but only if you print as you won't be cropping much and at online viewing it is difficult to distingusih between 24 mp and 36 unless you zoom in 100%.

Get the D810 if you need it, there is only to gain as it is a fantastic camera. I think price will come down as Nikon released the D900 later this year with the 153 AF points.

Hello, i'm new to nikon and new to d750. I just bought a samyang 14mm f2.8 ED AS IF UMC from the classified. I put it on my d750 but it doesn't seems to work, it write F(error) instead of the aperture apart from the F22 were it write F4.5. I know with fuji you need to setup "shoot without a lens" in the setting. Is there something similar or simple i can have done wrong or omited to do?

Its been a while since I've had a Samyang but I think you can set the aperture manually on the lens, make sure its set to A or 22 on the lens as this should then allow the body to control it....

As others said on lens, plus need to check the following on Camera

Custom Settings Menu> f Controls > f5 Customize command dials> Aperture setting> and the choose Aperture Ring

That's it.It will sing.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see a higher MP D810 replacement this year, look what happened to D800 values, plummeted like a stone.... I've been tempted by a D800E for landscaping, the D800 was (even including the D750) the best camera I've ever had but did come at a cost of weight and more importantly for me size, but that was back when I tended to use the 24-70 all the time... I suspect that having gotten used to 24mp I would be more likely now to use primes and just crop the 36mp images....

great tip! thanks

No question is a stupid question mate. (y)
Well, most of the time anyway.

The D810 and 24mm F1.8G would be superb for landscape. Chuck in a 50 and 85mm too and it'd be a winner.

I get my bonus end of March, hopefully GAS will have subsided by then!

I had a bit of moire on some suits at a wedding I was a guest at recently. With the D750.
Obviously the AA filter is weaker on the 750 !
I'm still getting to grips with the new kit, but I never saw moire on the D700.

But calumet will beat any prices no problem
At all so I just go through them.
Stop it, talked myself out of it as there prices were quite high but if I can haggle........ ;)

Although these offers are tempting, I do hate getting stuff on credit. I'm always too aware of it in the back of my mind and it makes me uncomfortable.

Don't know how I can square that with having a big mortgage but somehow feels different :p
I was brought up in the generation of getting stuff on credit, especially if it's interest free. Would rather have the money in my bank than theirs. That being said, with the interest rates these days it hardly seems worth it

Credit card I try avoid if can as these if you don't spread payment and just pay minimum u buggered. Finance it all set up
You can set up whatever monthly payments you like on credit cards too, I did on mine.

No GAS for me in terms of replacing my D750 and lenses, best camera I've used by far. It's walkabout lens GAS and travel camera GAS that I have  :$

Same here. I have only GAS for a couple of lenses. Just when I talked myself out of the Sigma 24-35 F2, saw this video from DPReview and I am there back again. This thread is like a virus for GAS.

Anyone have any thoughts on a fair price for hiring a D750? I've got one booked for a job tomorrow to use as a second body but wondered if it's a bit steep.... £75 for the day.

I know it's a reflection but i would have to zap the white blob on her lip.

So how does the 135 perform?

Agree with the white blob, I'll get rid of it.
The 135 will be getting a workout this weekend hopefully.
I have had a few problems getting it sharp on the 750 TBH.
It's right at the end of it MFAF range (+20), so I'm still working on it.
It does need about +16 (IIRC) on the D700,
It will be worth it though, I'm sure.

Anyone ever lost their DK21 rubber eyecup?

Mine has suddenly gone on a walkabout. I've noticed a few times that it's started to slide off but this time it's clearly gone all the way.
