Nikon D750 & D780

I love the vapour coming off the wings, great shot! Just as I thought I was planning on shelving the 50mm and going after a different focal length, I go and take a photo I really like:

Also, I built a subsection to my website dedicated for my photography: http://photo.thetimechamber.co.uk/

It was incredible, particularly so when it was raining in the morning, weird stuff like this kept happening:

RIAT

2016 - F16 by Chris Harrison, on Flickr

Nothing weird, just localised pressure reduction above the wing, causing the temperature to drop and the dew point to be reached. All in a days flying...#nerd

Great shot BTW

Just bought a LEE soft grad. FML they're expensive! Hope it's worth it!

I hope you like the subtle effect of the soft grad then! Different makes have different degrees of softness but with the Kood grads (different quality and price obviously!) I found the soft way too soft even for full frame and had to go out and buy hard instead. I hope your experience is better!

WOuld be interested to know if you think the extra is worth it, I've struggled to justify. it tbh.

I went from having a cheap set of Hitechs to a set of Lee's and they are worth the money. No more colour cast problems etc. I use the hard grads more than the softs

I just have a constant fear of dropping and scratching them though

I've used grads in the past but prefer to blend exposures if I ever do anything like that now. You usually blend yourself David, what attracts you to the old fashioned route, less PP?

I've been way too tight in the past to buy any filters but i haven't been getting the results i want so thought I'd give one a go. If it's an improvement then i will invest in a few others. I had been blending exposures in Lr but finding that the results were looking too HDR for my tastes (no s*** sherlock!). Went cheap on the holder though. Will see how i get on. I'm also gonna experiment more with WB as i feel Nikon is pretty cold.

Whilst out on curbar edge the other week I got talking to a chap who had this system with a few different filters, I was very impressed. I really liked how the holder could use a CPL and square ND/ND grads at the same time, something I've been after for a long time.

I personally think the colours of the D750 are spot on/most natural of all the cameras I've seen/used tbh. Warmer than some Nikon but not too warm like Canon. Obviously YMMV ;)

I've found luminosity masks to be a better way of doing it though it does obviously add to the whole process. Can't say your stuff has struck me as being too HDR like.

I have Lee 1 & 2 stop soft grads and 2 & 3 stop hard grads, I quite enjoy using them and I'm rubbish at editing anyway so they suit me. The hard grads are also useful if you push them on down into the holder as 2 & 3 stop ND's to give you that slightly longer exposure time. I also recently bought the landscape polariser and big stopper. In saying that we are away in the caravan for 4 days at the min, staying 200 meters from a lovely 4 miles long beach running west towards donegal and east towards cliffs with a lovely temple on top. 3 nights over us so far so that should be 3 sunsets and sunrises, some chance. Nothing but grey skies mixed with rain and wind so far. May as well have left the camera at home. Welcome to Northern Ireland

No idea mate  :$ Older chap in his 50's or 60's I'd guess.

Isn't that photoshop rather than lightroom though?

Yes he does a EM1 he a local tog [emoji106]

Here's the one that I cut the tail off slightly but in the end it's not a deal breaker..

Yup, hence why it takes a little longer, but worth it. I personally don't like the faff of messing around with filters on location - keeping them clean and trying not to scratch them etc.

If I did a lot of landscape I would pay for Jimmy McIntyre's Raya Pro but as I don't I use his free LM action set which creates them for you. There's plenty of tutorials on his website, just takes a little practice.

I do keep meaning to try blending in PS, but with the 'new' blending/HDR option in LR I never got round to it. That being said, with the use of filters and the D750's DR I don't need to blend and so I can save myself a lot of faff ;)

So my camera's been with Nikon since last Thursday and status is still showing that it is "awaiting repair", thought it might have at least moved on to "being repaired" by now. Getting withdrawal symptoms :(

I use a combination of filters and / or luminosity mask blending using Jimmy McIntyre's Raya Pro depending on what I'm shooting and the dynamic range. Mind you, I'm using m4/3 so I'm not blessed with the same amount of dynamic range you guys are LOL. I do think each has its place, and of course some filters (polarisers) are extremely difficult to replicate in PS.

Cheers,

Simon.

I stuck my camera onto 'cloudy' white balance when shooting with my filters last

Mine didn't change for a while, then suddenly it was done and on it's way back. You'll probably get it back by the end of next week.
