Nikon D750 & D780

@snerkler and @pmac im interested in hearing how you get on and how long it takes. I've decided I'm going to send mine in for the second recall (first isn't required) as I have 6-8 weeks before I next really need it when Autumn starts. Hopefully that will be long enough to get it sorted. Thankfully I'm not going to be camera-less as I've got a d7200. I've 90% made up my mind to let it go but the recall will now delay that as I'm going to keep hold of until the d750 is back.

Mine took 2 weeks from when I sent it to getting it back. The problem is waiting the time waiting from raising the call to them asking you to send it in, mine took around 6 weeks! If you don't need to send it in then I wouldn't, mine had no issues and worked perfectly. I might be selling mine so I needed to send it in as that would be the first question any potential buyer would ask.

Also you might as well wrack up some more shots as they replace the shutter which sets it back to 0 ;)

As I mentioned I sent mine in last Wednesday so it arrived last Thursday. If it hadn't been sent in with a second problem and has to have a second inspection by the technician supervisor/manager then it would have been sent yesterday for delivery today. Some folk have had to wait before they could actually send it in but I had mine pushed through straight away ;)

So tonight was scoping a location when my camera started locking up with the ERR fault code, am I right to believe this is one of the recalls and will have to send off for??? :runaway:
Not necessarily, some people have had the locking and ERR code and it's not been the shutter, and some people have had a shutter issue causing locking and the ERR code but it's not been one of those affected by the recall. I'd start by checking your serial number against those being recalled and take it from there. If it's not the shutter then is may be covered under warranty anyway depending on when and where you bought it.

Anyone know if there are any specific rules on photographing poppy fields, or do normal farmland rules apply?

Unsure as to whether there are heightened restrictions due to the "nature" of the crop?

From checking last night my camera isn't affected by the first recall "flare issue" but seems it's affected by the second. Going to strip clean and put new battery in and see if the problem goes if not will have to send in!!!

i had this issue on my D750 aswell. i was able to recreate the issue by using a high sutter speed (over 1600th) if the camera had been off for a while. One on occasion i took the lens off when the error occured and the shutter curtain was stuck halfway. I had an incredibly filthy sensor (400+ dots) which i am now assuming from from micro shutter abrasions. Anyway the camera went back for the second recall where they replaced somthing and the camera has been fine since. It took 4.5 weeks from start to finish as the cleaning job was so poor i had to send it back in.

FYI no one i spoke to at nikon gave me an official explanation of the ERR or the stuck shutter.

Then I would suggest that your ERR is to do with the shutter then in which case I'd send it in for the recall.

My sensor is always getting filthy too, will be interesting to see if it makes any difference with the new shutter. Hopefully mine will come back clean as I 'complained' that it and the focus screen came back dirty last time. The job sheet specifically says it's had a sensor clear, but I won't hold my breath ;)

Just checked my status, been shipped today but still no word if they've actually addressed the focus issue so will just have to wait and see when I get it back.

Iv not been able to replicate the issue, like I said only The ERR and stuck shutter, will check my sensor for spots later on tonight.

Mine progressively worsened over time. It usually happens when the camera has been off for a while.

Have you had the issue return after you sent yours off? Best get used to editing old shots and using my phone lol :sulk:

Mine took maybe 5/6 weeks before I got the label sent but think thats because I called to chase it up after the shutter curtain(I think it is.. the 4 small blades) ripped off in use.. The camera was then with them roughly 2 weeks before it was returned today.
The actual work only took a few hours it seems and looks like they cleaned the viewfinder and I'm guessing sensor too. but I haven't checked the sensor yet.

Took it out today and so far seems okay. My settings are still there oddly as I though people said theres had been reset. AF from the little I checked seems to be fine like it was before.

Now i need to get out the rut of not using it :)

If it's not too bad then keep shooting. Send it in after you've racked a few more actuations up.
Mine had over 60k actuations before I sent it in :D Just praying the AF is sorted, maybe I can even start using Sigmas

On other news, just booked tickets for Silverstone F1 2017, present from my wife for my 40th next year. Excited is an understatement :woot::banana::woot::banana:

I'm gonna push the button on a D750 & 24-70 combo from Panamoz tomorrow.

I'm reading about you all having problems and having them sent it for repair.

Are these all for recalls that my more recent model won't experience or does the D750 just have a larger amount of problems compared to others?

New models shouldn't have any issues, the recalls were on the older ones and issues now addressed so they're good straight from the factory now.

For the record, the issues are all a bit of a storm in a teacup, rare occurrences in extreme conditions. Mine was was of the cameras that fell into the category of potentially having both the flare issue and shutter issue. I tried to recreate both problems and couldn't. I'm not complaining about getting a new shutter after 60k actuations though ;)

Seems mine may have been made around Nov Dec 15 so was in a bad batch so recon newer ones would have been addressed

Didn't realise that it was still present in cameras as young as that tbh. But as you say, new ones should be fine.

Mines was affected by the 2nd recall so I registered it in mid April for the recall and they sent me the label 3 days ago.

I'm not sure whether to send mine in as I can't replicate the shutter lock, nor does mine have the flare issue, however it has locked up a few times (without ERR code) resulting in having to remove the grip/battery etc in order to get it to switch off/reset.
Every Nikon made post 2012 that I've used has suffered from same lock up at some point which I think is due more to DBS (even with battery displaying ok on LCD) as I read a Thom Hogan article about it which now I can't find.

That's poor if it's an inherent Nikon fault :( What's DBS?

Not sure but would guess at Dead Battery Syndrome
Thanks. If that's the case then I disagree as I often run my batteries flat and it has no effect on the camera locking up :p

Ok, this is at 2.8 before i get complaints again. How do you stop a 14 month old running away on the beach? Put him in a hole....
