Nikon D750 & D780

Still looking for a 24-70. Tried contacting some ebay sellers to get a deal outside of ebay but no joy as of yet!!

There is one on sale at AVF. A D800 with the grip and a 24-70 2.8. The seller may sell the lens separately if you put an offer.
 
Was there any particular reason you bought the 85 instead of the 24-70 JJ?

Was intending to have 85 as portrait lens to keep along side which ever zoom I bought - but cant afford it all right now so got to prioritise my needs and stop buying/selling!!

The only reason I ask is that I find forcing myself to stick with the 85mm is actually pretty liberating - no mucking around with zooming in and out... it is what it is! And I have to say, I'm loving being "constrained" to that focal length whilst having the freedom to concentrate on composition, lighting and timing the shutter press...

Yes i can understand that, if money no issue having both is ideal but im thinking now better to have options with a zoom, personally with just doing this fir pleasure im accepting zooms on my budget, gud luck finding one and keep pestering david about the scrumptous 20 mm lol

Weddings! Plus enjoyed using zoom taking pics of friends and family candid style!
 
Just a thought and a suggestion JJ! if budget is tight and you want a zoom.

Why not try a older 28-70mm or 35-70mm f2.8 lens and keep your 85mm 1.8g. There's nothing wrong with these older lenses optically and IQ wise, although you will get some people say they're slow to focus without ever trying them. Myself I found the 35 -70mm f2.8 and my now 80-200mm f2.8mm lenses really quick to AF.

But you have 2 D750's to do double prime!

Only for the last few, just used a single D750 before that. Had a D7000 as a backup but never needed it. As long as you don't take 5 minutes to change a lens you don't miss much.

Well that makes it more interesting lol! I will have a d7100 as back up on loan!
 
One instance where the 1/4000 sec shutter speed on a 1.8 lens is not enough. I had to reduce 2 stops exposure and still couldn't get the highlight away. ISO is 160 and was set to auto , should have used 100, but still it would have needed more than a stop negative compensation. Having said that, this kind of instances are rare in my shooting.

The Siggy 24 is still quite appealing too. £443 makes it even more so tbh!

Ok, I've been playing around with Photoshop to get a "style" I like for portraits etc. I've been using the gradient map (on low opacity) to tone down skin tones as generated by the D750 and as emphasised by my lighting setups.

I'm keen to get views, so thought this thread would be a good place to ask :)

Here is the finished product which has some smart sharpen applied selectively, a curves adjustment and the gradient map I've created:

What do you all think to the processing style? The map basically applies a tint and variable desaturation which I rather like, but it might be somewhat marmite...

I quite like it, but the feint lines in the background (left of image) draw my attention away. I also think the crop is too tight.

Thanks Tim. The background is getting on a bit - an old vinyl B&W reversible number - so that's just something I'll have to live with until I buy a paper roll. Thanks for the suggestion re: crop, that's the easiest thing to fix as I can just go back to the SOOC crop (minus encroaching softbox) :)

Doesn't matter for me, I'd add maybe a slight fade to it, I know what I mean but hard to explain. I've seen it done with a grey backdrop but can't remember who/where..?
 
They're not. The new Nikon 24mm beats all other 24's. It's a great lens by the look of it but the sigma is more tempting. But it does weigh nearly twice as much. The Siggy is cheaper though.

you know David ,Ive been tooing and froing between the 20,24 and keep asking do I need the speed and very good sharpness they provide or would I be happier with the 18-35 less sharp ,less fast but more width and distance with a very good IQ that some say equals the 16-35 other than 2mm less wide.keep thinking you
(me) might in the long term enjoy the zoom more for what it will most likely be used for.
