NickDs 52 for 2022 - Week 52 - Showcase.

Nice rusty handle Nick, looks better with the black backgroun on Flickr

We have a lot of dust magnets in our house :) I agree it looks a bit like a futuristic building and is perfect for the theme.
What fun to have an electronic drum kit. I have a drum kit and it takes up so much space. It’s not been played in a long time either.

Not summet you see every day! Nice one :)

That works nicely Nick and a good close up image

Thanks!
I wanted to get up close to highlight the dust.

I had no idea what it was, but it is dusty for sure.

Pete

Cheers!
It's clearly a thingamajig!:D

Thank you!
I find most thinks look better in the Flickr view. I tend to always click through to Flickr as it really helps.

I'd highly recommend electronic kits. Is it the same?... well, no... but it's close enough for practice, and it's a minor adjustment to an acoustic kit when we're down at the studios or out playing. Just being able to play through headphones is a godsend, and it's also easy enough to record at home, straight into the computer for better pre-production tracks. This kit is an old Roland TD8, so going back a few years, but it sounds great, is really good in terms of velocity sensitivity, etc, and if I record it via midi I can use it to trigger samples even better than the plethora that the module comes with.

It's something I only get to see about once a year, when she's on a maintenance spree!

Yes there is a lot to recommend them. I just tinker for fun - or at least I used to, but it was also used by drummers in bands we've had over the years so we could practice together (I was the bass player) and their constant fiddling with the set up made it more of an effort. If I got into playing often again I would definitely want to invest in an electronic kit. I used to find playing like meditation :)

I'm glad you explained what it was... there was a bit of head scratching here. Definitely bang on theme.

It is like meditation, playing anything. God knows what I'd do if I didn't play... Learn to take better photographs maybe! :D

Week 31 - Food.

So we're into the busy season, and waiting for this weeks theme I was hoping it would be something I could grab while out with the kids... Hoorah, I got lucky.

I'm totally prepared to accept the 'that's not really food' argument btw! :D

Salad Days by Nick, on Flickr

I’d say it meets the theme very nicely, especially as you have him munching. I might say it meats the theme except it’s a lettuce :ROFLMAO:
Nice backdrop for this sort of shot. Well taken.

Yep - that's grub for sure! Nice pic :)

Oh, it's food all right. Nothing in the theme to say that it has to be human food.

Certainly meets the theme.

Thanks!
The theme was drawn just as we were off to the zoo... I stopped just short of asking the keepers when feeding time was!

I was lucky to catch him with just the reeds in the background.

Well, it's at least a side dish!

Or indeed nice food!

Nice picture! Definitely a food shot.

Thanks!
He couldn't get enough.

What a great food pic.
Good background too.

Cheers!
The background is always the hardest bit. As luck would have it, it was really nicely laid out.

Says food to me... good capture.

Thank you!
It says salad to me... which is almost food!

Excellent shot

Thanks!
I saw them setting up for the talk, with a bucket of lettuces to throw, and knew I just needed to hang around and wait.

Works for me too. Nicely done.

Cheers!
I went for the one with the most interesting face.

Week 32 - Internal.

Damn... what can I take apart?... No... wait... I've got it!

I'd just finished a roll, so it made sense to grab this, My lovely old 60s Voigtlander Vito CL. I used the Acros +R filter film simulation, and unusually, I've not touched the noise. It's not really the kind of shot that needs to be clean. I also appear to have grabbed an inadvertent selfie in the viewfinder. :D

Nicely on theme. A while since I've seen the inside of a film camera!

I had a similar idea with my old Canon AE-1 but it was nowhere near as nice a shot as you've taken Nick.

I'm a relatively recent returnee myself. This one came up at a price I couldn't refuse £25 IIRC), and unexpectedly it feels as if it's new.

I like the composition and the black and white treatment works well. Good to see an old film camera is still in use.

Cheers!
It had to be mono really, just because of the subject. I probably only use about 2 or 3 rolls a year, If I could develop at home I'd probably use it more, but years of digital have got me used to instant results (and no real cost).

I'm sure it would have worked out, given a few minutes messing around with arranging the composition. That's all I did... on the kitchen floor, as I didn't have another clear surface I could use.

Yep - that works for me Nick :)

Having a weird mind, I'd have tried colour popping the yellow box (if Tri-X boxes are still yellow!) as a deliberate anachronism/contradiction! Not sure I'd share the result though!!!

Certainly fits the theme.

That is nicely done Nick and works well in black and white. It reminds me that I’ve got a Vito B in a drawer somewhere.

Nice mono image which fits the item. Reminds me of sitting under the stairs in the dark trying to get film out and into the tank!

As unfashionable as it seems to be nowadays, I do like selective colour when it's done well. I'm not sure it would have worked here though, with the film box being so large to one side of the frame. I think it would be a bit dominant in its bright yellow.

They're a lovely little camera to use, so simple and so well made.

Great idea for theme and well taken.

Thank you!
I was struggling for ideas to be honest.

That's something I never got involved with. I used to use the darkroom at college from time to time (even though my course wasn't photography related), but I've never tried home development. I'd probably shoot more if I did.

Week 33 - Square.

Ok, the crop isn't square, and the guy in the picture is clearly no square, with a cream Stratocaster, and funky 70's curly cable, but wait.... there must be hundreds of squares on that checked shirt!
