Wow, well seeing as I've had so many nice comments and visits to my little thread in only a few days I thought I'd better add some proper spiel here!
About me
My name's Nick - don't ask about the surname because it really is ridiculous!
. I've had my DSLR(s) since November 2008 - a nice little Olympus E420. In August I sold the E420 and bought a Canon 500D. Since buying the 500D I've bought a 5D Mark II - nothing like jumping in with both feet eh!
I'm still really finding my feet with what I'm going to 'specialise' in - but I'm drawn towards landscapes as a primary love. I'm also getting more into 'people' photography. I was petrified of it at first but it's actually quit fun!
Why am I doing this 52?
Well, when I started my photography journey last year I was really crap. On a forum I was on there was a photography subforum, and in there they did weekly themed competitions. I found that by doing these my photography skills improved vastly - I even managed to win a couple of weeks. My particular high point was taking a photo for the challenge (which didn't even get a vote in the competition
) which I later submitted to the BBC for a 'readers pictures' feature. Not only was it used, but it was also used as the lead image for the feature, and was recently used again to promote the top 12 readers pics of the year (it's the Beetle pic)!
For reasons of my own I no longer want to participate in the challenges on that forum, but I need some 'inspiration' to get me thinking about my photography and trying stuff I wouldn't necessarily think to have a go at - hopefully with the aim of improving myself further.
The 52 on this forum is the perfect excuse I need to get out taking photos again. I look forward to not only contributing my own photos to this project, but also hopefully giving a bit of advice and constructive feedback to the others taking on this challenge.
I'll try and comment on as many as possible, but there are so many people taking part this year that I may accidentally miss some out. It's not personal, honest!
.
My rules
I'm going to stick to the normal rules. I don't want to set myself too stringent a task so I fall out of love with the challenge, but do want to have some sort of structure to it!
Thanks for reading, and thanks for visiting my thread
