Motorbikes

Now I know you good people are very anti electric motorbikes; but where do you stand on bikes with an automatic gearbox?
Never tried one.
I was anti automatic car until I tried one, now I wouldn't go back.
I now have an electric automatic car, but I think I'd always want a manual bike...

I was in a job from leaving school for 4 1/2 years, there were 2 units, about 1 mile apart ( I know, makes sense). On some shifts, it was neccesary to 'commute' between both units multiple times and we had a pool, Honda C90 for this (as well as a propane powered fork lift). If I remember right, that was semi auto. It was private land, so I could ride it, and it's the first motorbike I rode at length. It was a joy, really easy, even for a novice like me.

Nowadays, I have my full licence and I trained and did my tests on a geared bike, like many do. I do prefer it in comparison to the semi auto.

Geared for me.

For some bikes an auto box would be great (think big cruisers) but I'd prefer a podal change to an auto (but an auto over a manual - not a scooter fan!!!) Nothing against electric bikes - they're probably the future for 2 wheeled transport.

Nothing against either electric bikes or auto gearboxed bikes but neither are for me. My Honda Varadero has ABS and I don't like that but for now I'm living with it, grudgingly.

Why don't you like the ABS?

Why don't you like the ABS?
It doesn't let me control my braking, If I'm in trouble I want to be able to lock up my back wheel and drop the bike under control but the ABS won't let me. Also it has a thing where if I pull on the front brake only it applies some braking to the back and vice versa again something I don't like because often if I've misjudged my speed in a corner I will leave the clutch alone, shut off the throttle and use the back brake to wash some speed off and drop the front into the bend a bit, I don't want the freewheeling front wheel at this point to be braking as well.

I’ve just uploaded another video from my NC500 trip. This was Day 3, the ride from John O’Groats to Ullapool.
The video isn’t massively exciting I’m afraid, but really it exists as a souvenir for me of a great trip.

It's a big no from me my bike dosnt have any electronic assistance such as traction control or anti wheelie I don't even have ABS eventually il have to change my bike but I want one with minimal intrusion

The Bobber has ABS but I'm pretty sure I've never triggered it. I'm (now!) an Old biker, never having been a particularly Bold one.

Great ride up to Scotland from Liverpool today 280 miles only 50 miles of motorway to avoid the hell of Preston and Lancaster City centres then all on A and B roads up via Southern lakes Yorkshire dales northern pennines and then along the solway coast and Galloway forest to Ayrshire all in the dry if a bit fresh . Here till Friday and looking at the forecast it will be the only dry day...thank god for Gortex

not against in principle and never tried one but don’t think I’d like it using the gears is an integral part of riding , but I’m old fashioned, I’m not actually very keen on the styling of a lot of modern bikes

Fantastic days riding up around the west coast today I was the only bike at the green welly today...and in Oban and Inveraray all places where bikes normally congregate weather was fine fairly warm and the rain held offapart from the odd shower hardly any traffic on the road managed 280 miles . Bucketing down now and tomorrow brings gale force winds so I probably only have a short ride maybe 100 miles or so tomorrow and a bit of an issue I need to sort out at home means il be heading back Thursday instead of Friday...already planning my next trip north of the border

I’ve read that the DCT (auto) box on the Africa Twin is better for off-roading.

Not sure that electric bikes should be included in that list even if the riding experience would (probably - never ridden one so can't be sure!) be similar to a fully automatic one. A mate had a DCT Africa Twin for a while but sold it on after a year since he preferred to be more involved in riding.

Just to let you know Hoghton Tower Sprint has been cancelled because all the spectator areas are waterlogged.
going for a razz around the penines, yorkshire dales and southern lake district anyway but thanks for letting me know, there's a meet later in the year im sure

So, taxed it today and took it for a bimble, just to clear its throat and all that after its winter rest.

I'm asking the question, at 55 years old, am I built to be riding a sportsbike anymore? Ouch.

Oh ho, just taken my bike off SORN and taxed it.:runaway:

I may be doing the same to mine (and an mot) over the next few days. I took it off the road as I was due to have my hips replaced but I'm having a cortisone injection first which may help for a few months ago it makes sense to get a few miles in while I can..

I've never found sports bikes comfortable (at legal speeds!) - too much weight on the wrists.

Only a quick spin round the extended block (about 5 miles) but it was good to be back on 2 wheels. After a quick whir to get oil round the top end, it started first prod - the extra for super unleaded is worth every penny!

Took one of the others round an even more extended block on Thursday evening. Filled up 10 miles in and need to do it again soon! (Only about 110 mile tank - reporting 15 miles range...)

typical isnt it, my missus wasnt well friday so i stayed in with her, been in work Saturday and Sunday...all with the sun cracking the flags, im off tomorrow...yup p***ing down were ever i look hey ho, charging up my cardo now as i type in case i say bolox...thats what gortex was invented for :ROFLMAO:

How's the fit?

One of my drop down sun-shields hits my (big!) nose so I had to grind it back. The others are all fine. Not a fan of dark (main) visors and I'm not sure how well they are policed in Wales...

I use one on my Bell Eliminator, Bell Broozer, and use a gold iridium one on my Bell Bullitt. I’ve not had any issues yet, and that includes when a policeman approached me whilst filling up to tell me that he follows me on Instagram.
