Lady Sue's 52 ART AND RELAXATION Page 16

Really like the first one, Sue. Could be a touch sharper, but the metaphor is great.

QUALITY
Well I am a day late this week. That is not for lack of trying to get a photograph.
I went to see my son and told him the theme this weekwas quality. He has a carpet and furniture shop so he said I could get plenty of pictures of quality in his shop. I laughed and teased him that I wasnt that desperate.

First of all I had the idea that I would go to the zoo and get a picture of the monkeys sorting through their food dish ( Quality Control) . I had seen them doing it before. So I went to the zoo, wore myself out but just when I thought I had the picture I wanted the monkey moved.

So then I thought I'd go to the cricket match near me on Sunday and get pictures of people drinking in the pavilion watching the match and call it Quality of Life. The skies were grey. The faces were all miserable. So.....

Quality Carpets

My son was most amused. C and C appreciated

Not sure about this Sue, i think it would be better without the detail below and just took a crop of the carpet itself. Pity about the other shots the monkey would have been a good one.

You are right Chris. Its not a photo I feel happy about. I'll crop it and see what people think.I only left the Axminster sign in because people know they are quality carpets ( and very expensive).

I think the monkey idea was a clever one, Sue - pity it didn't pass your own quality control!

Isolation: There's nothing more isolating than being alone in a crowd - and being different, so I think you've captured the idea very imaginatively. I'd chose #1, just because it's one flower in lots of other flowers, whereas the poppy is one flower in grasses. :)

Quality: I struggled with this, too, and your back story made me laugh. So often I've dismissed Mr JG's suggestions for themes - then ended up using them. :bang: I'd stick with the first option, showing Axeminster, because it's a Quality name in carpeting, and in fact, I think you could have made a good strong image using the wording alone.

I hope you get to reshoot the monkeys, though, that was a great idea. :)

.. oh - and full marks this week for putting so much effort into a difficult theme.

Thanks Phil. I think maybe I should have just stuck with the monkey shot and said it was a poor quality picture of quality control.

Thanks Jean. I enjoy doing the 52 but this week was a bit of a struggle. I've already got an OK shot for Post but always looking for something better.
Sue

:agree: with Jean on the Quality image and what a horrible theme that was... The monkey was a great idea, I too hope you manage to get one.

your carpet certainly shouts Axminster even without the name at the bottom. The monkey was very naughty to move just when he did !

Just down the road from me a man has a post box museum in his back garden so I was spoilt for choice with this one.I will put a couple of the other pictures I got in the general photography forum.I settled for this one. C and C really appreciated.

Thanks
Sue

Sue it's a nice enough shot but there is just too much to look at and there is no focal point. If you had focused on one area and got some close detail then I think you would have had a much stronger shot.

Allan

Thanks Alan for the comment. I do see what you mean about no focal point. I was trying to show the number of boxes. I did get some closer pics of just one box but didnt think that was as interesting.

Sue I disagree completely with Allan. The rules of composition are only guidelines really and this shot smacks of character and fun. If Allan can't see the focal point is the bloody great load of post boxes he's been drinking. ;)

I love it.

I like the shot & the subject is perfect for the theme. I wonder if a straight-on shot of the left hand group would have made for a stronger shot still?

Thanks Dean. I'm glad you like it.

Thanks Phil. You are right I could have done a face on shot of the block on the left. I didnt think of that. I was just trying to get in as many as I could in one shot.

Sue, another one here who really likes it although Phil's suggestion sounds like a good approach. Made me smile so can't be bad!

Thanks Carl. I'm always pleased if I make someone smile.

Yep, I'm with Phil on this too - but I do also like the shot as is. You're showing the chap's collection of post boxes - the photo represents that just fine. Job done

Thanks Nick.He had lots more around the garden- a real enthusiast.

Sue

I like it too Sue
I like the panorama feel to the image showing the collection.
Bang on theme so can't be bad. A different take on the theme. Well done Iain

Certainly a lot going on, I wasn't sure what my eye was casting too. Great colours just unsure what the main focus point is.

No wonder Royal Mail loose post and have a back log.

:lol::lol::lol:

I love this, Sue. I've had a quick look at your other pics (sorry I haven't had chance to comment on them yet) but this just made me laugh out loud - it's such an outrageous number of Post boxes. It's got humour and energy and they look so inconguous in a garden.:clap::clap:

btw - you've also got Posts in the plant supports, the fence and even an extra Post tucked in by the step.

Thanks David. I wasnt really thinking about focus points. I guess it is a big focus point of a big block of letter boxes.

Thanks Jean. There were loads of posts in that garden. There was even one that had lots of signs on it including "Post no bills".

Sue, it fits the theme perfectly and if anything is coming out on theme overload!

I like it a lot. I may have been tempted to try to take the photo from the side getting the first box in focus and the seeing the others out of focus stretching off into the distance. However, with my photography skills I would probably have completely messed it up.

Well done for this week.

Jenny

Wow what a collection. Really good photo but I think I would have preferred it if the shot was face on to the wall of post boxes with the flowers removed.

Well done Sue... that's a lot of post boxes... bang on theme too. I like it.

Personally, I do wonder what a close up of one of the boxes form the side, with OOF boxes drifting off in both directions would look like (but that's just me :D).

Great photo Sue - I think you were spoilt for choice there! :)

Thanks Jenny. I wasnt sure which way to take them. I like your idea though. I'll do down there again one day and try to get some different angles
