jeangenie's 52 for 2009 - Part 2, Week 52 Texture - and finally ...

Superb shot Jean. Lovely colours, that offset each other nicely. Spot on focus and DOF too, looks like you're enjoying that macro lens.

That's one pretty confused flower alright! And a really nice photo too

Hello Jean -I'm back

Apart from laughing at your antics over taking an SP I have nothing but praise for the end result. I too think your family would love a copy :clap::clap:

Organised - bang on theme but doesn't do a lot for me. It's got nowt to do with focus or pp it just doesn't push my buttons (and I've taken a few like that :()

Confusion - WOW, what a great picture,:clap::clap: and spot on theme

I love the colours on your organised shot and there is nothing to complain about on confused the pink is fantastic

Good timing for a nice, clear cut theme - thanks Simon. :)

I had two immediate ideas, and decided to go with the more outlandish one. :amstupid: I'd used a straightforward music shot for Comunication and thought it'd be fun to do something different. :bonk: Mr JG did say I was mad, and, as usual, he was proved right. So, courtesy of Mr Shakespeare and 'Twelfth Night', I give you:

'If Music be the Food of Love, Play on, Give Me Excess of It ...'

Link to the whole speech if you're after a bit of culture:

http://www.poetseers.org/the_poetse...kespeare_quotes/if_music_be_the_food_of_love/

Photographically, this was a nightmare.

Lessons learned:

1 Don't have such stupid ideas.

2 In particular, don't have such stupid ideas when you're too busy to spend time on them.

3 If you want a white background it's better to start with one that's that colour. This was cream. :bang:

4 Spaghetti isn't musical. Try bending it into a treble clef, and you'll see what I mean.

5 'Sticks' of celery are a misnomer - they bend, but not enough to make a treble clef. :bang:

6 Radishes on the other hands, are ace.

7 I really didn't spend enough time getting the contrast and lighting right, but I'm just grateful to get this in this week. :)

Thanks for looking, though, from tired, frustrated ...
Jean

Well it works - and your tune has just been played on the piano by my lad :) Not sure it'll be his next single though :)

Bright, fun, spot on theme and clever! I love it Jean :)

I guess it has to be played 'Al Dente' though :D

Thanks John, and thanks James for giving my photo a 'voice' - even if it hasn't got Hit Single potential!!

'Al Dente' :lol::lol::lol:

Jean

That's so damn good I could spit...:p

I love this, wow you are brilliant...

What a clever shot and so colourful to boot...

Oh and I love it...did I mention that...

:clap::clap::clap:

I like that. You have spent a lot of effort on that and it has paid off.
The frame you have chosen is perfect for the photo too.
I cant quite pick the melody though. : )

very very clever Jean  I like it a lot. The colours of the notes offset the spaghetti stave nicely, as for bending dry spaghetti .... I've played it in my head... (Does that count ??)

What a shot

and what a twisted mind to come up with that interpretation

It might have driven you mad setting it up but, believe me, it was definitely worth it.:clap::clap:

Very clever and colourful, and the border sets it off to perfection. I love your commentary, too :D. Well done :clap:

Organised - ooooh, I do like this!

Confusion - lovely colours and shot

Music - just, brilliant! Yummy, such a great idea - out of the box yet completely in it!

Catch up time, Confusion, don't you just love nature! ;)
Music, very clever and very well set up and taken, love it.

I'm feeling very guilty that I haven't said a proper 'thank you' for all those brilliant comments on Music. I'm really bowled over by them and you're all lovely. It's been one of those weeks where I've only had time to pop in for a few minutes and the poor old hampster's been on a go slow (or my computer is!)

So please accept a huge 'thank you' now - you've no idea how unsure I was about that shot and I really would have liked 2 bars of music - who knows, I might have made it to the Christmas No 1!! (or not!)

Pain is in the bag - and I'll post it later - but it is very slightly gory. If you're squeamish .... well, I understand if you give it a miss.

I will, will, will catch up with comments on all your Musics. I've been having quick looks and as always I'm stunned by the variety and quality.

May the Christmas spirit be with you, and fingers crossed for an easy theme this coming week. :) Dam - I promised I wouldn't do that again, didn't I? :rules: :bang::bang::bang:

Jean

This close to Christmas almost any theme would be a pain, so I suppose the theme was fortuitous. I had an early idea if all else failed, a pile of mince pies (my favourites!) on the bathroom scales with a tape measure. Pain - in spades.

Then, visiting the grandchildren for the older one's Nativity Play I was presented with a Pain I couldn't have planned. It's slightly gory so stop reading now if it will spoil your Chocolate HobNobs.

Dan, aged 4, had his first wobbly tooth and he was complaining that it hurt when he was eating his lunch. Then, miraculously, it came out and was duly admired by the whole family, and I thought the Tooth Fairy would like to have a photograph of it for her records.

But, :bang::bang::bang: I hadn't got my macro lens. Grrrrrr and double grrrrrr. There's no way I could offer to pay the tooth fairy in advance - Dan would have disowned me. Then the Tooth Fairy's human right-hand woman (Dan's Mum) explained she had still got the last tooth Dan's 6 year old brother had lost - and I could borrow it!!!

So, representing the Pain of anything to do with teeth, is Nick's last transaction with the Tooth Fairy:

I've never tried to shoot anything quite so small before - about 40mm - and it was harder than I anticipated. I think it's a bit soft, but it's the best I could get.

Lessons learned:

1 Fate can be kind.

2 I've found another area for improvement - very small macro stuff.

3 I must remember to return the borrowed tooth to the TF.

4 I'm starting to feel I can actually complete this Challenge!

Thanks for staying with this one - back to the biccies, now! ;)

Jean

So with eyes partly averted I scrolled down to see your latest....and quickly scrolled back up again. It looked like a severed finger!  But after I read your explanation I was able to have another look. :)

You've done really well with this and it looks sharp enough to me. There is very little DOF on a macro. I like the way it just seems to float - disembodied, of course ;) - in the relatively large space, though I might have tried angling it a bit more.

:clap::clap:

I don't have a macro lens yet but am saving up for one. If the tooth is really 40mm your grandson must be a bit of a monster! :exit:

Very clever indeed. What a great time for the tooth to come out just right for this weeks theme! Nicely lit, lots of detail! Couldnt ask for more.

Eeeeurrrggghhhh !!!!
Difficult one for me because I'm really squeamish with teeth, but what a piece of luck

Sounds like you had one of those moments like I did with my peppercorns, but the end result's paid off.
For a first attempt at something so small I think it's brilliant

Ooops - bit of a typo - how about 4.0???

Ooh wow! Wouldnt have guessed what it was without reading. Well done, what a clever shot!

Thanks, Shorty. :)

Thanks Ant - it's great when the challenge throws up a 'big groan' theme but you get lucky! :)

Sorry Sarah - I hope I've not caused any lasting trauma for you. We could do with a 'not for the squeamish' equivalant of not safe for work. :) It's great you managed to look long enough to like it. Thanks. :)

 fate can sometimes be kind . Seems sharp to me too. And spot on theme as well :)

Sorry I'm so far behind Jean...

Confusion: Lovely colours and I like the DOF. The only issue I have is with the composition - some plants can be such a b****r, there is always a bit you need to chop off or they look too busy and I think your confused plant is suffering from that a bit.

Music - LOVE it! I also love your comments.., spaghetti isn't musical! :D
Great fun shot - and a perfectly sensible idea for a photo in my opinion

Pain: Bleuuurgh! I had to avert my eyes pretty quickly but the DOF looked good and it seems sharp enough to me. I can't possible look again to check!

Thanks, kg. Dan (my grandson) thought it was pretty cool to lose a tooth and loved the attention. :)

Sorry I'm so far behind Jean... No worries - I'm struggling to keep up too!

Jean

Oh god what an awful but great shot! This is not a topic I enjoy and anything tooth related is causing me pain to view :)

But...great shot Jean :D

Shudder!

That's a awful shot...:gag: but in a good way...:clap::clap::clap:

Fits the theme well...

Merry Christmas Jean to you and your family...

Many types of pain here Jean... sounds like you've inflicted it on a few people this week ;)... anyway, well done, I can see how that would cause him pain, so on theme...

Merry Christmas

Sorry for giveing you the shudders, John. :)

'Awful' seems to be the consensus response, John. I honestly didn't realise it would give so many people the creeps.

Very meery Christmas to you and yours, too, Marcus. ;)

Merry Christmas

Yes, I didn't intend to spread so much pain around - especially at this time of year. Merry Christmas to you, too, John.

Jean

Another Toothy person this week :D

Great Macro shot and the bloodstains add to the sense of goriness. :gag::exit:

Although, as a child I wasn't freaked at all when I lost a tooth

Not only is it spot on for the theme but you've got the DoF spot on too.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Jean, and yes, I'll definitely be here for the party next year

Music, great fun shot. I like it

Pain , Bloody good shot of something so small. Well done

Merry Xmas to you too!

Jon

Merry Christmas to you and yours Jean, and yes, I'll definitely be here for the party next year

... and to you, Reg and alll your near and dear, Jill.

Music, great fun shot. I like it

Merry Xmas to you too!

Jon

Cheers

I suppose I'm not the only one who's found it difficult to find time this week to get this done, but I've finally scrapped in with a shot of sorts.

I really wanted to spend ages playing with my lovely new nifty (thank you Mr JG :love:) but this was a rushed shot pushing the dof as far as I could. For some bizzare reason I decided to do selective colouring. I've never tried it before because I don't like it much, and I haven't given myself any reason to think differently with this. :bang:

Anyway, here it is: Health - Five a Day:

I apologise for the wonky edges on the selection. It's too late and I'm too tired to go back and do it again. Please feel free to criticise this - I think I've got the germ of an idea but need to retake the shot and start from scratch again. But not tonight. :(

Jean

It's a good idea, but as you said, you've not quite pulled it off...:(

I think it would have work fine as a full colour shot...

you have got some great DOF going on here...

but it's on theme and one more closer the the end of year shot...:D
