jeangenie's 52 for 2009 - Part 2, Week 52 Texture - and finally ...

My kind of DOF shot Jean :) Lovely lens eh?

When I first viewed it I though they were plums or grapes - there's a weird scale thing going on there (dof? or maybe a very long stalk for an apple?)

On second look its the dof that does it (maybe like one of those toy town tilt and shift shots?)

Anyway enough of my rambling...I do like it but would also love to see the full colour version if poss....I like selective colouring though so this works for me :)!

It's a good idea, but as you said, you've not quite pulled it off...:( If I've learned anything this year it's that Tiredness + No Time = Rubbish Photos!

I think it would have work fine as a full colour shot...

you have got some great DOF going on here...

but it's on theme and one more closer the the end of year shot...:D

My kind of DOF shot Jean :) Lovely lens eh? Yes, I can hardly wait to get out and use it properly.

Thanks for the comments Marcus and John. Here's the full colour version:

Thanks for looking. :)

That is a lovely shot, Jean - I definitely prefer the full colour in this one. Very nice lighting and use of DOF.:clap:

I'm glad that you posted the full colour version Jean.
Lovely subject, great DoF and beautiful composition. The selective colouring just wasn't working for me though.

The colour version is so much better and you always manage to do so well with your white backgrounds

You have my sympathies re: lack of time this week. Trying to do these last few weeks among the chaos of Christmas has been a real challenge in itself.

I much prefer the colour version - and I am loving the DOF

Lovely shot Jean, and I prefer the full colour version too. Only one week to go:thumbs:

Colour version for me too Jean, very good shot. Lovely DOF too.

Yes that works much better for me...very nice...

Yep Jean - colour for me Lovely!

Thanks Marcus and John. Seems like colour it is, then!

Thank you kindly, Tracer. I'm enjoying my new lens. ;)

Thanks Sarah. I have to confess, the white background owes more to photoshop than my lighting or set up. I used a piece of white(ish) card on the kitchen table and typical miserable winter weather lighting through the kitchen window. :)

I think there must be a place for selective colouring, but I haven't managed to find it yet - although I've seen lots of fabulous examples on here and elsewhere. Maybe it should be one of my goals for next year.

I much prefer the colour version - and I am loving the DOF

Thanks, DS. I think any praise for the dof goes fairly and squarely to the lens. It's gorgeous. :)

Lovely shot Jean, and I prefer the full colour version too. Only one week to go

Thank you - I'm pleased you like it. Yeh - one week to go! And then start thinking about next year. :bang:

Colour version for me too Jean, very good shot. Lovely DOF too.

Thanks, John, you're very kind. :)

Well, this it IT! WEEK 52! Even though I'm seeing this year out on a whimper rather than a roar, with a very mundane shot of rocks on the beach, I've made it! :D

Dedicated to the end, I braved howling gales, icy winds and post-Christmas excesses on Monday to get this. But then it occurred to me nothing else other than keeping this 52 on schedule would have got me taking photos in that weather, and that has been one of the joys of doing this challenge.

So here it is:

Week 52 Texture on the Beach:

So I'm sorry it's nothing special photographically, and the only thing I learned was just how cold my hands can get and still hold the camera!

A huge, huge thank you to all of you who've looked in on my ramblings, and special thanks to those who've commented. You've been unfailingly supportive, constructive and kind and I can't thank you enough. It feels like I have a whole new bunch of friends.

Very, very happy, peaceful and healthy New Year to one and all. :)

Jean

The challenge of the new 52 beckons and I've been looking back on 2009's photos trying to see what (if anything!) I've learned.

I think the main thing is I'm more comfortable using the tripod - at home at least! I've learned a few more PS skills and enjoyed using my D700 and macro lens which have just celebrated their first birthdays!

I still find it so hard to make judgements/criticisms (good or bad) of my own shots, so to draw a final line under 2009 I've gone through and chosen:

The Worst Picture (Photographically):
Week 16 Longing:

The Picture I'm Most Pleased With (because I got it how I wanted in camera - no pp!)
Week 24 Development:

and, finally, My Candidate for Crowbar of the Year:
Week 15 Duo: (Duodecimal Bean Counting for Beginners)

You're welcome to comment, but please don't feel you 'have' to, but I wondered if anybody else has looked back on their 52s (or 365s) and picked their stars and their turkeys. :)

I would like to offer my congratualtions on getting to the end of your 52 jean, very well done. Along the way i have seen many good photos here, some have made me laugh/smile, some have made me sit back and think and some have been totally amazing. I have enjoyed the journey, its been great!

What are your plans for 2010? Are you continuing with another 52/365 or anything?

Well done on reaching the end Jean, and you know, I really like that Texture shot. There's a lot of different textures going on there and it works very well.

Oh Jean, nice finish to your 52s for 2009...

spot on theme like always...:clap::clap::clap:

It's been a bumpy ride for all of us at times, you have been a great inspiration to me. You really are a talented photographer, if you would only believe it... Good luck with your next 52s, I'm sure your shine and prove me right...

All the best Marcus...

Thanks Shorty. tbh, it was too cold to check out the slime in the Texture shot. Thanks as well for all your comments and support during the year.

Awww - thank you Ant. You're very kind - and yes, I'm going to do the 52 again because it's really made me get out and take shots I'd never have thought about. And (being barking mad) I'm going to do a personal project as well, and I think the format for that will evolve over the next few weeks.

What about you? Join the 52ers again! :)

Thank you very much, Marcus - I really appreciate your kind words. I hope you'll drop in on my thread sometime and give me your honest c&c. Thanks also for all your help and advice. :)

Erm......well thinking about it i have decided that yes i will be carry on with it for sure. What i havent decided yet it if i will follow the themes on here as you have done so well for the past year or just carry on with my own stuff. I also have an idea for a couple of projects i have been meaning to get round to so hopefully it will all come together.

Congratulations on completing your 52 Jean. Sorry I have missed the last few weeks.

Pain...ooh ouch, nicely done
Health, great composition, I prefer the full colour shot.
Texture, well seen and again very well taken.

Good luck for the new year

Mark:thumbs:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Well done on making it to the end Jean - and a simple but effective shot to finish on

I agree with you on your favourite / least favourite shots and I personal love the crowbarred effort

I've really enjoyed your 52 thread - words and pictures - and I'll definately be looking out for your 2010 projects ;)

Jean your year has been a delight to view! And don't undersell your last shot, meets the them, nicely composed and well exposed :)

Love your choices of the year and I may well do that myself :)

Very much looking forward to your 2010 set(s)!

Well done that woman, you made it :)

Well done Jean! I have to agree that the colour version of the apples are better. I'm not a fan of selective colouring though, so I might be a bit biased!

Great work on getting across the finishing line

I'm finally catching up on comments here - I like your entry for texture with its interesting shapes and colours, and you have judged the DOF perfectly.:thumbs: Is it just coincidence or was it by design that the in-focus rock is shaped just like a trad ever-ready camera case?

Congrats on finishing the year - some truly cracking shots in there :clap:

Texture - feel you could have got a bit more up close and personal with this one....

Jean - well done on getting to the end of a long photographic year....

Thanks Jeff. I couldn't/wasn't prepared to get any closer - there was an icy stretch of sea between me and my rock.

Great work on getting across the finishing line

Thank you kindly, KG. I agree with you on selective colouring, but occasionally I see something I like - but not my Health shot!

Here's to the New year and its challenges.

Thanks Tracer. I didn't see the camera case shape in the rock until you mentioned it. errr , noooo, of course I'd seen it all along. :$

Thanks to everyone for helpful suggestion, comments and brilliant support. :)

Hi Jean, I love the texture shot and its a great way for you to finish the 52. Thanks also for your encouragement when I've needed it. Do you realise only 10 of the originals finished the 52? I think we've all acheived something even if its only getting to the end. Best of luck if your doing the 2010 52 ....or is it a 365 ;) I'll be watching :suspect:

Jon

CONGRATULATIONS - you've made it to the end

And you've finished on a high :clap::clap:

Health, I definitely prefer the colour one and it's a great interpretation

Texture, there's plenty there to choose from and I hope it wasn't too dangerous to take in this weather ;)

Thanks for all your help and support this year. I really appreciate it and look forward to following your 52 in 2010

Thank you Jon. I think the encouragement was a 2-way thing - and I certainly appreciated it. :) It's quite a good feeling being one of 10 to see it all the way through, so please give me a kick if you notice I'm slacking this year!

A 365? NO WAY. I really take my hat off to the 365ers.

Happy New Year

Jean

Thanks Jill - I feel I received far more help than I gave you and I know I'll enjoy your 2010 projects. My ideas for my personal 52 are still evolving and I think that will continue for the next few (as in 52!) weeks. :D But I am determined to do the two photos per week. :)
