First I would like to point out to all that I have done business with Ian in the past, and not just a few pound but the likes of Nikon 70-200 etc.
I would say that I do trust Ian as I have no reason not to. I have not read in any place anything bad said about Ian.
What I would say is that communication can be difficult at times. Him in the States, us here and the time difference.
Basically, what happened here was that on this occasion, as it seems that Ian has closed his Abbey account, I was unable to pay into his Clydesdale Bank. Me being in Surrey and all that and was not prepared to do a money transfer and basically get ripped off on bank charges.
What I did here was to send his sister a cheque of £499. I would not expect Ian to get a special clearance on the cheque as his markup margins are not great.
On the 6th May I advised Ian that I had sent his sister a cheque for £499. I had no reply to this which did not bother me as I no that contacting Ian can be difficult.
I sent a copy of the email on the 7th May and he acknowledged this and thanked me for the business. So now all is well and I am feeling happy.
As I had sent a cheque, I felt that I needed to give Ian time to allow the cheque to clear and therefore did not contact him with regards to the lens on order for some time. I did however contact him with the following question.
9th May
Dear Ian.
What would be the cost of Nikon SB R1C1 Flash System to include delivery.
I did not receive a response to this enquiry, again not bothered as I know it's hard getting hold of Ian at time.
On the 12th May I sent the following.
Dear Ian.
Waiting for 1 order but in the mean time
What would be the cost of Nikon SB R1C1 Flash System to include delivery.
I did not receive a reply.
On the 18th May I sent the following email.
Ian. Did you receive my cheque and if so, when may I expect delivery of the lens.
I received no reply.
On the 22rd May I felt that something was wrong and sent the following email
Ian.
I ordered a Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens - Nikon Fit and have not received this. I presume that you have received the cheque.
Are you still in business and will I receive this lens.
U sent this same message again on this day and marked the email as urgent.
On the 22nd May I received this reply from one of my emails sent on the same day.
Hi Ashley, Yes no problem, just waiting on it arriving, it is ordered.
Please advise? Ian.
Ok so now I am happy again and feel that all is ok and will receive the lens very, very soon.
I also received this, again on the same day.
Sorry, this is 1st I have heard from you since I got cheque. If my supplier doesn't get stock soon I will need to send refund!
I replied by saying keep the cheque for now.
On the 31st May I sent a message marked Urgent saying the following.
Any news on the Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens
Now I am starting to get concerned again and enquired on this forum if others had been able to contact Ian. I also sent a pm.
I received a reply to this as follows.
Will check with supplier tomorrow, if he doesn't have it yet I can refund? Is that okay? I do have Canon 10-22mm but good bit more expensive!
I DO NOT WANT A CANON I ORDERED A SIGMA LENS TO FIT A NIKON
On the 31st May I sent this message
Ian. I am looking for the Macro for a NIKON camera.
Some confusion here it seems.
Sigma 150mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens.
I posted a cheque to your sister on the 5th May for £499.
On the 1st June I received this from Ian.
Asley, Not sure what you are talking about? I know what you are looking for and I know its not a Nikon camera. I know when you sent the cheque. Why the heading upset? I have told you I will refund you this week if my supplier can't give me a date today. Ian.
20 minures later I received this email.
Sorry I see what you are saying here, my mistake offering a Canon lens. I am waiting on the Nikon fit Sigma!
I replied with the following
Ok Ian. I was very concerned that I would end up with a lens that was for a Canon camera that I did not want and could not use.
Please let me know what your supplier says. This really would be most appreciated. I was hoping to use the Macro at the start of spring. But, ha ho, that's life.
And I received this a short time ago.
Ashley, I will refund, still not in stock. Please can you update thread you started on TP!
Will I send cheque to address provided?
Ian.
---------------------------------------------------
From the above I think that the reader of this thread will see my concerns.
I will end by saying that I think Ian is a great guy and one that can be trusted and it is through him that it has become possible to own some near unfordable equipment just because we live in rip of uk.
