I love all these 'car maker A' is more reliable than 'car maker B' discussions.
A Visteon component is as likely to go wrong on a peugeot as it is a cadillac. Ditto Delphi, Bosch etc etc
its only small percentage of a cars components that are unique to that manufacturer.
and some 'car maker A' cars are made by 'car maker B' and designed by 'car maker C'
My Vauxhall has broken down once so far. The Denso alternator blew up (the kind you find in oh so reliable Toyotas)
Thats the beauty of the internet , all you ever hear are the horror stories , when one person has a problem with something by the time the story's done its rounds its a major fault with the offending item
Or Japaneseyup, chinese whispers at hyper speed![]()

Poor sod. Sounds like the cambelt.
Just for the record. We have plenty of Jap cars costing customers money. Its a fact of life. Cars go wrong I'm afraid.
Just today had a Chrysler Grand Voyager come in with a blown motor (I know its not Jap!) and a VW with same.
If its mechanical it will break down eventually.
The fact tht it didn't go bang, but just died and still tries to start suggests something electrical...
Needed to! Not done it for a week Hey! Every cloud has a silver lining. You're looking at £2,000 scrappage![]()
Do you honestly believe that Vauxhalls are better vehicles than Toyotas, more reliable and better built?

If so, perhaps a "cloud cuckoo land" section can be posted for you to moderate as well........![]()

Oi, you leave my location alone, I don't need moderators hanging around the place however lovely they may beDo you honestly believe that Vauxhalls are better vehicles than Toyotas, more reliable and better built?

i guess you didnt quite get the point
in a nutshell: car manufacturers design cars, and assemble them.. thats about it. They make b****r all of the components, and quite often dont even design or assemble the cars either!
so its stupid to say a car from country A is crap because a component from country B blew up.
I didnt say anything about vauxhalls being more reliable than a toyota but a denso alternator is as likely to go wrong on a vauxhall as it is a toyota.
Correct in theory, however Vauxhalls have ACDelco electronic components and Toyota use Nippo-Denso.......
sorry flash, but thats not 100% correct.
I used the alternator as an example because thats the last thing i had replaced on my Vectra, and its Nippon Denso.
Possibly because its the 1.9 diesel isnt exclusively a GM used engine.
I think i just sent myself to sleep.
One of the Vauxhall diesels is an Isuzu unit, iirc, no idea which one though..
yeah, although this one is a fiat/GM joint venture.
when i left Lotus they were in the middle of developing a diesel version of the 1.6 4 cyl engine they developed for GM.. But not sure what happened to that.
And after all my 'Fords are Great' posts I just discovered that my air-con condenser unit has a leak...
Easily fixed though - when I have £500 to spare...
Looks like I'll be playing car-sauna for the forseeable future, since I'm going to be on exercise for three weeks, then back in Germany for a month (in the Mustang) and then off to Afghan for 6 months...
If anyone knows of a cheap aircon condenser unit for a 2000 Cougar/Mk 2 Mondeo V6, let me know, eh?
I can fit it myself - not going to give someone another £300 just to fit the damn thing...
