Heat.

It's heading for 0oC here and set to drop even lower over night.

Alexa, via a notification, tells me it's going to snow for an hour from midnight.
You can never trust her to tell the truth or gossip :D

Minus 2-C here at 04.00 but now up to 1-C. Beautiful clear day at the moment with virtually no wind.

1oC clear blue sky, light breeze and the grass is still white, where the sun hasn't touched.

7am this morning, -8°C. We had a layer of snow. Beautifully clear though, fresh too. Light winds.

10-30am and it's -2°C.

Our cars were caked in frozen snow this morning and were challenging to defrost. I missed my opportunity to cover them last night before the snow fell. It was a good tester though of my new glow plugs, had them fitted before Christmas as one of our cars was a bit of a challenge to start on cold mornings, being a diesel and I'd often be turning it over multiple times to start it. It spun over twice today and started, very lumpy though, due to the cold and not being started for 2 days. I let it idle for a minute then just lifted the throttle a little for a minute, once some heat got to the block, it was fine.

It's cold indoors as I'm having to air the house due to some condensation on the inside of the windows, they've not been open for a few days.

A beautiful day though, if a little Baltic.

Still clear, 1.5oC and about a dozen starlings probing a white lawn.
I'n not sure what they'll find though.

Wormsicles!

Its currently 0oC and heading for -3oC later on.
On the plus side, as it was a clear day, there was still a little daylight left, just before 17:00 (y)

-2°C and dropping fast, feels bitter out, think winters finally here.

EDIT - Em just told me weekend could be 10°C again

-2°C again. it did get just above freezing earlier but not for long. It's been a beautiful day and still some light at around 4-40pm.

Apparently, we're getting proper snow from about 4am tomorrow.

it does look like the temps are starting to climb at the weekend and double figures by mid week next week.

Since the forecast suggests -5°C at 06:30 tomorrow, Mrs Nod has plugged the Leaf in so it'll be nice and warm (and defrosted!) when she heads of to teach a crack of Sparrow-fart.

Now -3ºC, frost on the car. Back to warmer temps next weekend, though... 11ºC forecast.

Looking forward to Dale's report of heavy snow ..more snow..sometime tomorrow ....:)

We're fortunate enough to have heated front seats in the car which really makes a difference.

This afternoon,it had got very cold,I saw two Great tits, two LTT, two Blackbirds and a robin in the garden. The Blackbirds (Mr & Mrs) were,as ever, on the ground..the others in the neighbour's tree (no leaves,of course) so I put down crunched up fat balls, some kind of pellets my neighbour gave to me and regular bird seed, retreated and watched. The Blackbirds were the first to investigate. We're going to get a bird feeder but in the meantime I put it on an upturned large plant pot and on the ground around it. It's a small area that I've fenced off to give protection against cats. One used to visit as lot but I hadn't seen it for quite a while until last week but I chased it off a couple times and I haven't seen it for a few days. It must curse me. Probably hoped I wasn't there since it came months ago..lol. The tits took the feed that was on the plant pot rather than the ground. I'm also soaking meal worms for a feed for them as soon as it gets light in the morning because they'll need it at -4ºC..as forecast.

Cats yes, a bloody nuisance, one comes in and raids the hedgehog food.
I do wish they would feed the damned thing!
I've not seen the hogs for a couple of weeks or so, even when the nights were mild, so I stopped feeding them about a week ago.

I'm not sure if they have buggered off, or they are asleep.
As its staying cold for a few days, I'm tempted to open the Hog bag, to confirm, either way.
I'll prepare a back-up in case they are in there, but I doubt it.

I have a few hanging feeders with a variety of foods, and a ground feeder with a cage over it.
Nothing bigger than blackbirds can get in it.

Mostly its sparrows on the feeders, they come in en-mass mid-afternoon, and queue up in the close by Laurels.
I see the occasional Robin, but it's very flighty, and there was a goldfinch checking it out earlier, but it didn't stay long.

Back of 7am and it’s been proper snowing for an hour or so. We’re low down in the valley and rarely get a good fall here but a mile up the road, there can be 6 inches of snow. At this rate, we’ll have a decent fall here too.

Not checked the temperature but it does feel milder than recent days.

Mine (heated seats) take a mile or 2 to get up to temperature but are welcome on really cold mornings. The preheat in the Leaf is much better! Heated windscreen is a boon too (mine, not the Leaf!)

Just hovering around freezing at the moment. Car windows squirted.

It was cold and clear last night, but this morning there's no frost and it's heavily overcast and dark. Leaving for work shortly.

I ventured out just before 8 and there's just about 1/2 inch of snow in our street. There was a slight frost under the cover on the car but the cover itself was like a board with a dusting of snow on top........ nice.

The main roads are clear, well, the main road, as there's only one. Side streets are covered in snow.

It's stopped snowing (pah!) and is currently 1°C. Heavy cloud that looks like it might be about to dump snow but it is a calm morning, with virtually no wind.

Heated seats? What's that all about?

It's hovering around 0oC the grass is still mostly white, it gets little sun in the depths of winter,
There was a frost on the car around midnight, but it cleared around daylight.
Its currently calm and cloudy.

Minus 3-C at 04-00 here today but up to 0-C now. Beautiful day once again with no wind which is bonus.

I was hoping for similar conditions as yesterday as I wanted to get out early and finish the filming of my latest YouTube vid', I was shooting and snapping virtually all day yesterday but just ran out of decent light towards late afternoon. All done & dusted now so I guess I'll get cracking on the editing.

I'm disappointed, we didn't get the snow we were promised. All we got was about 1/2 inch. It's been relatively mild today at around 3°C but it felt a lot colder, I guess due to a wind chill, not that it's particularly windy, just a bit of a breeze.

Dry as a bone out there just now, and only just getting proper dark. It was still lightish at 4-15pm, due to the near cloudless sky.

I'm sure I heard the Met Office lady say that somewhere in Oxfordshire it got to -8ºC last night.I just couldn't catch the name. Do you think that was possible or have I misheard her ?

It is disappoinnting when you're looking forward to some decent snow and it doesn't materialise.

You're in for a battering next weekend,Dale. Starting Sunday late morning, I think, and for a couple of days .Very strong winds and heavy rain, too. The centre of the Low is north of you near the top of Scotland. Even down here it will be very windy but not so strong as you'll get.

The Low pressure/storm we fortunately missed is travelling along the northern coast of France and might just clip our south coast and is a named storm by the French Met Office...Storm Isha.

I really hope the winds are not too strong. I have a shoogly fence that needs repairing and the ground has been too hard to dig posts in.

I'm not sure who was most disappointed, my daughter or myself, she was hoping for a snow day and a day off school.

Unfortunately, the winds will be, at least gale, force if not storm force.

Yes...kids love the snow and if they're told there's going to be a lot then it's very disappointing for them.

Certainly possible, but not around here. Maybe on the higher ground north of Banbury.

-3 here overnight, last night, and again predicted for tonight, but Weds into Thursday is predicted to be -6.
TBH I don't think it got above 0 all day

Currently 0°C but the Met Office is predicting we'll get to -6 tonight. A little warmer than yesterday morning's -8.

Apparently it got down to -7°C at Exeter airport last night. It was -4°C on top of the hill at 09:15 this morning.

I heard it said again on our regional news..Points West, at 6.30pm this evening when forecaster mentioned it but, unfortunately he didn't say where other than 'parts of Oxfordshire" so I did hear it correctly first time.

Fun fact. Never has this thread title been further from the truth, it was -10°C this morning according to Alexa and the car at 6-40am. At a guess, I'd say it went a little lower over night.

Took my daughter to the bus stop as our street is like a bottle, unwalkable. The gritters don't come here, we have salt bins, which are hardly ever used. It's a long street and I ain't doing it alone.

It's a crystal clear morning though, no wind, clear skies, even now at 8am, I can still see some stars, stunning.

It's warmed up now though, it's -6°C. Time to get my shorts and vest on.
