Fuji x100

Seeing as I can't figure out a way to search within this thread. Would anybody be able to point in the direction of a fitted leather case that will fit an X100 with 49mm adaptor fitted and ideally give access to the the sd card, battery and tripod mount, or be so easy to remove that these are unnecessary.

I do have a black rapid snapr 35 that i would recommend. big enough for x100 + hood, 2 small pockets for cards and batteries, and really handy!

How are the buttons holding up?

I've used the Snapr (without the over designed case) but all the button text is wearing off from rubbing on my trousers.

How have people got on with macro and the X100?

Granted, I know its not quite designed for that, but have there been much successes? Anyone tried attachment or some close up filters?

It's not bad. I don't think macro enthusiasts will be rushing out to buy X100's but for flowers and things it's pretty good. It's probably too wide angle for most people, regardless of max reproduction ratio.

Not used any close up filters or anything I'm afraid.

Think this is the only 'macro' shot I have on flickr using the X100.

Finally made decision to depart with my X100 black. Ad is in classifieds if anyone interested.

Spooks

Further update on my sticky aperture blade problem:-

Friday, phoned fuji and they sent a bag to my work address for me to return my camera
Tuesday - posted camera body only to Fuji.
Wednesday - Fuji confirm despatch of a camera body plus extra battery (i asked if they would throw one in)
Thursday - receive complete camera kit boxed from Fuji, so now have a spare of everything!

Thanks, I have some new studio lights incoming and will have a play once they arrive. It probably is a bit wide, but let's see :)

Fairly wide angle for close portrait in macro mode. But I still like it.

We braved the 'Trippers" to go down to the town this afternoon with my X100. This camera is virtually invisible if you hold it at waist height and fire off a few shots now and again, I waited ages for this woman to come out of the shop and when she did, she had lit herself a cigarette in the split second she exited the shop!

And this was a 100% crop, into the sun. The local sailing club was training.

I've found it great for 'sniping'. I just have it with the neck strap and hold the camera with one hand on the shutter. Because its virtually silent nobody know you're taking anything. I've just got to learn to keep it straight.

Just had a scary moment, turned the camera on and the orange light came on and stayed on and the camera seemed locked up.
Took out the battery, counted 10 and re-inserted it but still locked up.
I phoned Fuji support and after a bit of faffing it was suggested that I take out the card and re-insert.....bingo it worked, I'm a bit puzzled but relieved.

I've just been using my X100 for the first time today, and boy am I impressed!! It's just the ideal form factor for walkabout/street/travel photography, the one thing I was concerned about before buying was not having a zoom, but the fixed 35mm equivalent is amazing, I wish I'd bought it months ago!

Here's my cobbled together sling strap, made up of a bit of string and a small carabiner, it cost me less than a fiver and works just great.

I'll change the triangular split ring for a round one when I get my hands on one.

Cheers

I've just joined the club :D

My first issue though, I can only get the image playback when pressing the playback button to come up in the viewfinder, not on the rear LCD. I've searched the manual and can't seem to find a solution. Can anyone help please?

Edit: Fixed by updating firmware! :)

Hi Jonathan - i havent used it enough for that to happen - only had my x100 for about 6 weeks, and fuji have replaced with a new camera this week. I shall keep and eye on how it sits when i use the snapr, cheers

Hi Dave, the view mode is separate for playback and shooting. It sounds like you pressed the view mode button when in playback mode. Even if you are using the rear lcd during shooting, hitting playback will only show the playback in the viewfinder. It is something that caught me out.

Congratulations Dave, new one or refurb?
Thanks Laurance. I got it 2nd hand from a friend with a Fuji hood, soft release, SD card and Lowepro case. It's alot different to my D700/D300 combo, but I'm loving it so far! :)

A-ha, thanks Phil. I shall experiment!

I've just bought a similar one from Tripman
http://www.tripman.co.uk/www.tripman.co.uk/home.php

It's a Gordys brown leather wrist strap, I can't for the life of me see it on the site this morning though!
The ones you've shown I can see on Ebay and look just as good.

Yes I too noticed that the Gordys have disappeared from that site, that's what prompted me to look on eBay. I think I'll give one of the Footprint's a go.

I ended up with a nice dark brown wrist strap that I picked up from the Lomography store in Manchester (originally for a different camera), but the Gordy ones look really nice.

Hi guys.
Can highly recommend the Footprint wrist straps off eBay. I have 2 and the quality is first rate. The chord loop is thicker than most and feels very secure.
The guy who makes them will do any combination of available colours and styles and could not be more helpful.

Question for the X100 folk.

I've had various cameras over the years from Olympus EP1 to a 1D MkIII + 24-70L for wedding work etc.

I bought my first house recently so slimmed the kit down and went for an X100 (also ment no more weddings, which suits me as I really don't like doing them!)

I love my X100, and was glad to get rid of the bulk of the bigger cameras like the 1D (excellent camera though it is)

I'm more interested in the photo rather than having the latest and greatest kit!

However... at times I still want to use a camera with an interchangeable lens, mainly when I want a bit more reach etc.

I do have an old Fuji S3 pro at the mo but the speed of it is driving me made! so it has to go...

So having said all that, what do you think a good companion camera be?

If you still want minimal size but with a choice of lenses how about the Fuji X-1 Pro?

Surely the xpro1 will fill that gap nicely. Depends how much money you have to spend though!
