Fuji x100

I'm thinking about getting a refurb x100. Have many of you guys gone for refurbs, and what were your experiences with the cameras as they arrived, please?

Were they all pretty much mint as they arrived?

Received mine from Fuji on Monday of this week.

Apart from the outer most box being a bit dusty/discoloured, you would struggle to tell it from new. The camera itself is absolutely mint, immaculate, no marks whatsoever. I am actually relieved the shop was sold out when I went on Thursday evening as I would have been gutted to pay almost £100 more for a new one. Next day delivery if ordered before 2pm too (excluding Saturday). I ordered on Friday and it came on Monday.

The website says that all refurbs come in a plain white box with refurb on but I phoned them to check and the X100 is an exception and comes in it's own box. Do it!

I've been reading that the strap holder lugs wear within months with the X100 strap and triangular 'rings'.

Has anybody had this problem and also what is the best way around it?

Thanks

Colin

Pleased that you are pleased with it!

Can you tell us what the start of the serial is? Is it a 2011 or 2012 model?

Thanks

Sure, it starts with 13. Can you tell me what this means please? :)

Thanks for the response. I'll be sensible and wait for one of my lenses to sell and then I'll hit buy on the refurbished site. I can't wait.

Anybody had this problem?

The solution appears to be to use round strap rings instead of the triangular ones. There is also a thread on X100 forum.
Nigel

Thanks. I had a look on the DPreview forum and some of then said 'bye bye Fuji' and moved to Olympus so I wasn't sure the round rings worked.

I'll have a look at the X100 forum.

Thanks

Colin

Must admit I only use a wrist strap with this camera. Only problem I've had is when I've not had the wrist strap on my hand and taken shots with it dangling in front of the lens - which of course I didn't spot in the OVF.

Easiest and cheapest solution ( and you wont have to buy an Olympus :cuckoo:) is to go to B&Q ( Home Depot in USA) and buy some rubber rings and put them over the lugs between the body and strap.

The strap rings cant physically touch the body. Simples....

I have a Gordys wrist strap on mine and it comes with these rubber rings. They are available from www.tripman.co.uk Rings are available on their own for 50p

Does anybody use the genuine X100 leather case with another neck strap? If so, how does it look? I'm getting the genuine case and love the look of the Artisan & Artist cloth straps but I'm not sure if the brown case and black strap (with red logo) will look right.

That might stop wear to the body of the camera but won't help the actual issue though which is that the lugs are made of too soft a metal and wear incredibly quickly. Circular rings will slow down the wear as compared to the triangular rings supplied with the camera but the ends of the rings still chip bits out of the lugs. The only solution it seems is to use a fabric/cord loop to attach the strap to the lugs.

I guess I meant the rubber rings might reduce the movement of the strap rings and therefore stop the lugs wearing so quickly as well as not marking the body. I cant see any wear at all on the lugs of my X100 and its carried around a lot with the wrist strap which means twice the weight on just one lug But, of course, you are right, fabric or cord loops would be ideal, as long as the lugs dont wear the fabric too quickly.

I have the original case and Artisan fabric strap and they don't work together the leather bit on the lugs is to thick when you try and do the case poppers up. So I ditched the case as the stap is just perfect.

Thanks Justin, that's exactly what I wanted to know. You've saved me some money there :-)

Have spent an hour, or so, indulged in reading this thread. I took delivery of my Black X100 last week but not really had a chance to play with it yet. Have to agree that it is a very sexy camera, even my wife agreed that it looked very cool and retro. Loved all the packaging too!

Am hoping to venture out with it in the morning and give it a decent road test. Thinking that the case and long strap might be a bit of a pain so have noted the alternatives suggested in here.

I don't use the wrist strap to support the weight of the camera, just as a safe guard in case I drop it.

The more i use this camera the more i fall in love!!
Here are some recent photos...

This one was done by using the raw image to make two jpegs in camera.(one colour one mono) This way they merge perfectly, goodbye tripod!!

This was monochrome with a lightroom antique filter. I really love the effect this gave me!

Good set of pics, Lee. Like the first one; not often I go for colour popping but this one works well. How are you finding the fixed focal length? I have been out with mine today and instinctively kept feeling for the zoom rocker switch!

Top expression on your lad's face!!

Phall.when you've used it a bit can you give a few words on IQ versus your 5D please.
thanks

I've tried it out properly today for the first time. I did a lot on f/2.0 so I would imagine its not at its strongest at this aperture.

I found the images to be really nice with good colour, exposure and decent sharpness.

When viewing at 100%, the 5D mkII with my 85mm lens wipes the floor with the X100 in terms of sharpness and noise control. I shot with my 85mm in similar situations a few weeks ago, at f/1.8 and it was much shaper with greater resolution when both at maximum apertures.

Having said this, the images from the X100 are easily sharp enough, it is just when viewed at 100% you can see an obvious difference.

One thing I'm sure of is that is a joy to use! Also, everybody thought it was an old, low-tech camera and even surprised it had an LCD

Here's some samples from today. I've cropped ad changed to B&W/vintage in PP:

Cheers, i haven't missed it much to be honest. I mostly used a 35mm lens when i had a nikon slr so I'm probably used to life without zoom!
I usually use centre point focus and then recompose by cropping in photoshop. I find this gives the sharpest images too.

This has been a dream camera of mine for a while, finally bit the bullet and ordered it from Jessops on a 10 month 0% finance. But they have none in stock, hope I don't have to wait to long!

I know... I think my soul got burned!!

I don't want to sound awful and disrespectful to the old lady in no.5 but that photo is creepy! It's like she's not really there but a spirit holding onto his arm. Freaks me out a bit :-)

 Great shots Tom..really miss mine and so tempted to get another.

Thanks Stuart, go for it, you know you want to!!

The only downside with the X100 is the overwealming desire for an M9!!

Haha. Still can't stop looking at it. It's the way his arm looks like there's nobody next to him and she's dressed for completely different weather and era.

Still getting to grips with mine, but ventured out for some street stuff over the weekend. Im certainly having furn with it anyway!...

A great set Tom, are they jpegs taken straight from camera, or edited Raw files? Really tempted to get one of these!

Cheers
