Fuji x100

Cheers will take a look, its that or a Gariz for me!

Here some links to the Thumb Grips:

The HorusBennu is the cheapest, and the Match Technical one is even dearer than the Lensmate Grip!

I have one of the HorusBennu thumb grips, while it works really well, I think I'd have preferred one of the Lensmate ones for the exposure comp guard. But I guess I'll make do now :)

Was reading about this elsewhere, some rumours it might even be the Fuji X200.....

EDIT: I meant to add theres a part where he says " I’ll be switching my allegiance. You cannot believe what’s about to come down the photographic pike." Which would rule out a Canon Mirrorless as he's currently got a Canon S100.

Theres no viewfinder though, which can be a clincher for some.
Also, Leica have just announced a new X2.
But, theres always something new in the pipeline, if we all waited every time a rumour of an upgraded design came out, no one would ever buy a camera.
It will have to be really good to better the X100.

agree, no viewfinder is a major difference not just to function but also price as it tends to add a few hundred to the price so not really a comparable item to X100.

Although if a viewfinder is not required then looks like it could be a great camera especially when seeing how small it is! Only marginally bigger than S100 which is quite a feat.

Think I'm going to order the lensmate.

Not only do i need somewhere for my big thumbs, but I'm always knocking the exposure compensation wheel onto a different setting.

Camera's coming this afternoon!

Quick question, apart from half case, pouch and lens filter - what can be done to protect the x100 to ensure it lasts well cosmetically?

Just got the x100 lunch time, chargin the battery and looking up any tips i can find. Love the fel and cant wait to start taking some pictures with it.

On thing though, i have to carry another usb lead in my camera bag....

EDIT

the cameras too pretty, dont want to scratch it!!

Half tempted to cover the thing in gaffer tape once i get the screen protector on the back...

I really love the feel and style of my X100... although I'm very very tempted to add an X-Pro1 :(

Hi all,

think it is easier to ask than to trawl through the thread, but am looking to mess around long exposures with the X100 and looking at ND filters (10 stops and other ND grad filters). Anyone been experimenting and have ideas and recommendations?

Does anybody have any idea how to use a Nikon flash with my x100. I have an sb600 and a Nissin Di622, currently triggered with RF602 triggers.

I got a 52mm B&W 10 stop off this forum and find it great. See here for some examples.

More than 30 seconds though will require a cable release (as far as I can see!) and I've ordered one so will comment on that when it arrives.

I have put the X100 up for sale to fund the 18mm lens (or perhaps a manual 15mm) but I may yet just keep it depending on interest. Its a lovely wee camera and certainly a bit more svelte than the X-Pro1 will be but I can't really justify having both sadly.

I'm not sure if you can use it "automatically" but theres an option somewhere to use non-native flash, I believe it works but you have to set the flash manually.

How would you connect the flash?

Wired sync cord, or is wireless possible?

I use my X100 with my Nissin Di 866 MK II (Canon version) flashguns off camera with (Canon version) Phottix triggers.

I've also shot with Nikon speedlights and Pocketwizard Plus II triggers and also used them with studio monoblocks.

In the X100 menu go to External Flash and go from Off to On - NOT On (commander).

Silent mode mush be switched off.

Your Yongnuo triggers should now work fine.

Here is an example using Pocketwizards with studio flash (but speedlights work the same).

And an example using a Nikon flash.

Thank you Cynergist, didnt expect it to be that easy....

Back home this evening so will dig out my flash bag and have a play.

PS what sync speed could i get using the wireless triggers?

It is fairly straightforward if you aren't using TTL, which I assume is the case if you have 602 triggers.

However I believe this only allows you to keep to the sync speed of your triggers (I think that is about 1/250 with the 602). If you want to go faster and make the most of the leaf shutter in the X100, then I think you are going to need a cable - but I've not tried it yet.

The more I use the camera, the more I like it!

I went for a walk in the botanic gardens in Dublin today. The close-up focus is pretty nice!

Didn't see this - thanks for the reply...I thought the thread was 49mm and not 52mm - did you need another thread adaptor?

I use it with the JJS adapter as 52mm seems to be easier to get hold of.

Well, used my X100 this weekend. A couple of comments:-
  • It's the fastest compact i've used. With quick start on, if i hit the shutter release as i pick up the camera, the camera is almost ready by the time i get it to my eye.
  • Quality of the pictures is amazing. I only went to iso1600, but streets ahead of my d300 is my first impression.
  • Flash is brilliant. DOesnt overpower the subject at all. In fact you are very hard pressed to see which poctures had a flash fire at all.
  • The compensation dial is way too easy to adjust. Needs some sort of locking mechanism. I've ordered a thumbs up that covers the rear of the dial, hopefully that will help.
  • After reading lots of problems with autofocus, i found that either manual focus, and using afl button to focus, or afs plus the smallest af area to be best. Just wish the afl button was bigger
  • What is the point of the rear jog switch / command dial? It is the least used control for me, and is in the position easiest to reach with my thumb when the camera is at my eye.

I added a bit of gaffer tape for protection top and bottom, and also to 'de-bling' it a little, ggs protector for the rear lcd, and filter to protect the lens. This is now a take everywhere camera, with plenty of speed and amazing picure quality.

So this camera is a definite keeper.
