For the 'younger' members of TP....

Thread record here:

I'm 14. I take pictures for the papers, local and national (Scotsman, The Sun etc). Started up a little picture agency with a friend, and also run a news website with other youths in Scotland.

You have beaten me :bat:

That is really impressive, you should go a long way. Good luck with everything

Wow 14 and your taking photos for newspapers, that impressive!!

I'd say!! Very impressive... at this moment you are the youngest tog on TP! :D

I'm 19. I used to keep the togging quiet but I've finally accepted my geeky side.

Who cares what others think eh!

I'm lucky to live in a city where photography is accepted into art circles. However I've noticed, on my course, that I am looked at as a bit of a square because I dont have the faintest interest in gig photography anymore!

that's cause you are :P

the younger members are on about their mates thinking they are geeky. Today i got told that I was growing old before my time with some pics I put on face book. bloody cheeky git said that photography was for old farts.

I am 41 but going on 18 at times and other times 108. ha ha!!!!

spike

I'm 19 and it used to be classed as something that wasn't that cool but since progressing, posting on facebook and so on, it quickly turned heads and they were interested in what I was doing. I've been doing photography for about 2 years and worked for Jessops for a few months.

Thank you! It's always nice to receive compliments like that :D. If you ever have any photos that you need help selling, get in touch.

in 24, doing a photography degree now and setting up a business as i go.

been into togging for about 2-3 years now, mostly got into it when traveling then looked for jobs and found the RAF photographer, unfortunately didnt get in due to poor eyesight in one eye so started studying photography.

are any 20odds going to the FOCUS meet tomorrow?

i will be there.

I'm only 15 and have only recently purchased my SLR, I've been interested in photography for years and I'm glad I can finally express my passion for it. Still need lots and lots of practise though, but we all have to start somewhere I guess :)

just turned 24, have quite a few 20something friends who are into photography in a vague sort of way, a few who have taken it up for businesses online *edit: for photographing handmade craft, fashion, jewellery etc they're selling, not selling photos online*, and one who's set up her own togging business, is very talented and is doing very well :)

but even my closest friends thought i was quite mad till i got to uni and found a bunch of likeminded people at photosoc and the uni magazine - just wish i'd got involved before my final year, would have had more time to do stuff! people have also found it less weird now i've got my jewellery site up & running, and although my photos (to me) still leave a lot to be desired, it's nice to be able to take photos of my creations that show it to its best advantage :D

planning to get out to a few TP meets this year, can't make focus sadly but would be great to meet you all :D and it's lovely to know there are people my age around here too :D

People say that about railway bashing though, and TONS of young folk do it. hint hint.

one of my friends has finally cracked!!! not only that he's comin to focus on monday, i just have to drive :D maybe i can convince him to buy a camera

I'm 21 :) I've found the majority of younger members here are male too.. anyone want to prove me wrong?

Yes - I'm only 18 and I'm a female :D

I got my DSLR about 2 1/2 years ago as a present for my GCSE results. Never did photography at sixth form as it wasn't an option. Doing an Art Foundation course at Uni now where I get to do photography stuff, but next year I'll actually be going on to a Photography & Video course - wahoo! :D

When I was in secondary school my brother and I used to do a developing and printing service, so you can never start too young. That was back in the days of REAL photography, chemicals and stuff

im 25, picked up my first Digital camera in 2006 and my first DSLR in 2007. Been shooting seriously for two years

LOL, I know how that feels, try being into photography, ex-IT Constultant/backup specialist and now Sales Controller in the motor industry (tarred with car salesman brush)

Know how you feel :D

heehee, just found this post (and Lauren's about being a mathematician, something bad happened when I tried to quote!), somehow missed it yesterday - I'm a photographer and a librarian :naughty: but my other hobby is my sportscar, which redeems me slightly in the eyes of my friends :D

Turned 23 last week and been at it for just over 2 years I think. Only have a couple of mates who are into photography with me who are of similar age.

I'm 24, picked up my first digital camera (a Fuji 1300 for my high school 'prom') in 2001.. left it alone until 2005 when I started uni on a design course. I thought a camera would be handy to have so bought a Canon 300D... roll forward to 2010 and I'm shooting sporting events of national (and hopefully on Wednesday.. international!) importance :D

I'm really astounded, to say the least, by how things have leapt forward in the last 6 months though.. and there are a couple of people who I will be forever in debt to, but the future has never been so bright :)

I'm 23.

OK I lied - I'm 38

I did photography at college in my late teens / early 20's and looking back now I guess it did seem a tad unusual.

Think yourselves lucky though as 20 years ago we didn't have great forums like this (or digital) to help learn and develop.

Im 18 been interested in photography for a number of years, but only seriously in the last year or two, enjoy both digital and film aspects of the hobby and really do like darkroom work, its just extremely satisfying to see your Photos appearing like that. Don't own a DSLR yet but hopefully that is soon to change.

This is going to sound very wired, but its a true story to why i like photography now!

When i was 16, this local internet cafe was opened, in cafe they had a separate area for computer games, i got hooked on a game called counter strike source, played that all summer from 9am to 7pm at £10 a day or week pass for £30 and they guy saw me come in that much he ended up letting me on free :D

So anyway i found out i could play this game out home for free, after learning about computers, building then, gaming systems i then went to play at LAN parts around the UK (any multiplay) members here :D i built my own machine and got hooked into computers!

College was now about to began, i new what i wanted to do (ICT) So i did 2 years in IT and at night, did 2 hours a week learning about web design.

I did not really enjoy any of the course, i did not get to build computers etc... but while on the course, i got hooked onto Imovie and Apple computers, so i then went on to do media, which was all film based apart from 2 hours every week, where we would get to do photography, i loved using the Macs and photoshop and all the cool things you could do...

I dropped out of media, and tried to move into a photography course, i was not allowed i was to late, so i had to wait a whole year! i was then allowed to join a photography course the BTEC national, now i was still liking all the Photoshop stuff, but it it took two people, a neighbor who used to play football with and a friend who i met during the course to spark my flare and love of photography..

We are 2 weeks into the photography course and by chance my neighbor asks me to come help him move furniture, i spot his Canon350D (did not know that then) and asked if i could have a play, i sat in his garden for a good hour, playing about with auto mode! stunned how i took a picture of a flower and the background was blurry (terminology at the time) or how i made thinks darker or lighter with shutter speeds, he said you can borrow it if you like....i felt so good that i was using a pro camera

While at college, i met Phil (he is on this forum now :P) who showed me some stunning images of buildings/trains/planes abounded and lit up with light (light painting) he took me to an abounded airfield where he would teach me the fundamentals of the camera, aperture, ISO, Shutters speed etc...

I then went on to create on of my fav sets on my flcikr...

My flare just grew and grew and asking questions on here, etc has taught me what i know now..

i am planning to continue into University, and what a journey that has been :D

26, no photography mates apart from people who i've worked with, been doing it for many years on and off, big break between film and then digital (developing costs :'( )

tbqfh i'm a bit bored of photography recently but hoping something stimulating will arise, more than anything i think it's lack of people to discuss photography with face to face and the surrounding area...the lovely flat city of hull.

:)

p.s - 1.6 (or beta) for life.

I'm 24 (and female, for whoever asked!), if people think you're a geek for being into photography you should try being a photography geek who's also a mathematician for a living! haha not too many dinner party invites coming my way :D

I'm in my final year of an MMath, what exactly do you do for a living? :)
