Flickr and comments

Flippin ekk! iv only got about 3 comment in total on my flickr!! lol..

I like Ekimino's comment on there.. Well done Mike..

I don't rate it to be honest. As said above the shadow ruins it but then again it is a little big to clone out I suppose. I am not a fan of all these awards either. Probably because I never get any. :D

Thanks for the comments, all. The shot was never meant to see the light of day as it really is sub standard.

Nevertheless, it's time has finally come... it's big day is here.

Now you all look just as stupid as the people you thought were stupid for fapping over nothing. Har har! There's probably some group of people posting on a photo forum saying how silly you all look :p

Just stumpled upon it inadvertantly and accidentally left a comment as well. I might have accidentally added it as a favourite too

oops.

Wouldn't that be fun ! - It passes the time though....

Could be out taking photos I guess. Also fun and passes the time. :p

>>Could be out taking photos I guess.

Not when chained to a desk 0830-1700 today ;)

If you do a bit of a read about Explore you'll see that they periodically change the algorithm (which is kept secret) to discourage this sort of thing.

The best one I saw was a massive thread of disparaging comments about a Cartier Bresson picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrerabelo/70458366
While people have every right to not like the picture, the the thread I've linked to shows how little the people commenting know about the history of photography as it's one of Cartier Bresson's iconic images and none of them noticed!
It's also funny how many of them complain that that pictures not sharp - I think this might be one of the sad side effects of the digital age - everything has to be so sharp nowadays that people don't even recognise artistic blur or grain :(

Pete, it's nice to see that you care so much about this - thanks for your input  :p

Oh, and by the way, Pete - your 120 photos in Explore are there because you're a damn good photographer. People like me have to up ourselves via more obscure channels. 'Spanner in the works' is now my most commented on photo! I don't care if it doesn't make it to Explore - it really is just harmless fun.

But you're here? Been some bad images posted here with great shot comments. Ok no awards but still. Stupid to write off Flickr because of that.

Flickr isn't an internet forum. It's closer to facebook, which also creeps me out. I prefer something with better interaction.

Flickr reminds me of youtube, where some guy will post some feat he has accomplished, and the responses will be "that was amazing, here check out my video..."

It's very pretentious, with obvious exceptions that are very enjoyable. But it's the pretentiousnous that makes me a viewer rather than a contributer.

I'm really not a fan of the silly awards and there are far worse problems than this on Flickr. I just don't like to see people essentially trolling, or using TP in a way that may look bad from the outside.

Flickr has groups for discussion, areas to post photos etc. In principle the discussion can be just as good as a forum. Strictly speaking groups aren't hugely different to forums. As its a huge site it will get pretentious people, normal people, scary people, people stealing photos, all sorts. Nature of the net. I've been on it for years and I've made friends through it, got work from it and enjoyed it. In all honesty there are more people on TP that I don't get on with yet I stick around.

You make a good case, I didn't even realise there were discussion groups. I'm going to have a better look next time.

I think my opinion is clearly ignorance on my part.

There are groups on virtually everything. Specific cameras. Film. Processing. Locations. Days. Ideas. Concepts. Games.

It's quite useful also if you're looking for a lens, for example. I looked on the groups for all the macro lenses on my shortlist found it was useful to check out the picture streams and the discussions.

How many comments does "spanner in the works" require before it goes onto explore?

No-one knows. It depends on how interesting it is. I've seen photos in Explore with like 4 comments.

hey hey, I joined..

There can't possibly be fewer annoying peeps at Flickr, than TPF...no way

:)

Of course not. Flickr has plenty of annoying people, but for me there are more people on TP that I find annoying because the size of the forum is smaller and they popup more often. Flickr though, well its easier to hide out in areas without them.

*pops up in both*

Ya can run but you can't hide.....lullz

I'm pretty sure there is a personal approvement process also, so it's not just entirely automated.

I think thats too much work for people to do and judging from the entries it doesn't seem so.
