Flickr and comments

I think the shadow breaking the chair is a spiritual realization of the demonic urges within society. The bridge clearly signifies the route of our souls through from conception through the mundane mediocrity of life to the unknown beyond. The rust is upon the chair shows how fragile and temporary even the most sturdy of materials can be when left to fair against the power of nature with its most brutal governance.

Sorry what I meant to say is, it’s a dull chair and the shadow makes it even worse.

:lol::lol: Reading that was like being back in a university crit - superb :lol::lol:

I've left a comment, we'll see how long it stays. he he.

Just had another look at the photo, second time of lookign and i still think it is pants!! My llittle cousin with a point and shoot could do better. Thats an idea i may put some of her work on and see how many of these crap "gold star awards" it gets!!

What is the point of spamming all these photos with "your invited..blah blah" what do they get from it?

I want to go into why it's pants but as he/she isn't on here to defend it then I'll restrain! :p

I'm sure if this person uses Flickr as much as they seem to (deleting negative comments quickly) I am sure they are hot on their stats to. So I would assume this person will find this thread some time after midnight tonight

I think adding an image to so many groups like that can be rewarding for someone with a good image, as it can be good for exposure. Though it works the same for those with not so good images, and also, rather unfortunately gives the taker a false impression about how good their work is. Which in turn means they don't learn anything and continue to take rather 'normal' snap shots.

There was a group on Flickr (probably still is) that was there purely for submitting your worst picture, with the aim of the members helping to get it into explore with mass invites and spammy comments  Wally's.

Been on a lot of sites where this happens, yes this is sharp well exposed and niceley lit but the contact and composition are garbage, maybe it just his mates saying nice things

For some, photography is about preserving memories. For some, it is about creating something beautiful. For some it is about improvement yourself and striving for something better. For some, just cold hard cash.

And for just a few, it is truely about chasing the dream and finally getting that Sparkle Crazy Unicorn Mega Icon of Photographic Spirit Award.

Each to their own. As long as I don't have to sit in a pub with one of the latter, I'm happy.

I think we should have a flickr group called "Proper Constructive Criticism Only - Minimum 50 word response".

And a little logo of "This is poop, you should delete it. Sorry."

I think it would be really funny for someone from TP to deliberately post an appalling or just pointless image (maybe just a tiny black dot on a plain white background or something equally uninteresting) to their Flickr stream and have lots of us marking it as a favourite and posting in-depth critique on it just to get it into Explore.

Anyone game to game Explore? :naughty:

I honestly don't see the point. All its going to do is make a few people here giggle more than anything. Theres good things in Explore and sometimes bad things. But on the whole it has a lot of really good photos in there.

Argh, just a bit of fun, though would suggest starting a thread in OOF or else this thread will get sent there too :)

I may already have the ideal candidate in my flickr right now

Very true Pete :) but it could be fun :D I'm happy to post something up as I have a flickr account but never really use it, although I might start to, actually it might be a good way to learn about flickr - for me at least :naughty:

So once you've got the image in explore with loads of faves and your own comments, then what?

Lots of back patting, and a general feeling of pointless accomplishment of course - can't wait :D

Oh, and an unadulterated excuse to use loads of smilies on this forum

On the contrary, I think it would be an interesting social experiment (if it worked and it got into Explore) just to see how other people - who aren't in the know - react.

Would an utterly rubbish pic at #1 in Explore with lots of gushing comments cause a herd effect?

It would be like a group of people gathered on a street corner all looking and pointing upwards. Soon, passers by would also stop and stare just to try and see what was so interesting whilst unconsciously adding to the curiosity factor.

And yeah, it would be a bit of light-hearted fun without harming anyone.

Lol, a friend and I have talked about this subject a lot and worked out that no matter how good a photo is, it all comes down to who you know and where you post it in, rather then how good an image you have taken.
It could be the biggest pile of out of focus pap, but ti could still end up with 20+ comments saying its bloody amazing and 10 favorites next to it.

Yet you see a stunner of an image, no comments, no favorites and only 5 views.

It doesn't seem like that at all. It seems more like people want to mess with people on Flickr just so in the end they can go "Ha! Its actually a rubbish photo I took just to toy with you." Lighten up guys. The majority of Flickr images are in Explore for good reason. Some are there because they are popular, some for god knows what reason. Just accept it and enjoy Flickr as I do.

Meh, I'm with the 'throw a spanner in the works and see it all come tumbling down' anarchy crowd.

Personally I'd prefer to believe its because of a good photo. I've had over 120 in Explore. I started out just like everyone did with 0 contacts. Built them up through discussion, adding contacts and acting honestly with people. I'd prefer to believe that my photos are in Explore because people like them, because they're good.

Haha. As if a few comments in one photo is going to cause anarchy in a field of at least 500 photos :p

As I said I don't use Flickr, so there is no 'then' It's a good idea for just a bit of fun - Don't worry about it. offer withdrawn

Don't need an excuse :):):):)

Whatever you decide to do, I've really enjoyed reading this thread

Bum. That's actually much better than what I was expecting. I was thinking something more along the lines of just a plain black square or something :D

But its not Poop!
Needs some tags like, Spanner, tool, you know, the usual ones ;)

The image is boring as hell and the comments and stupid gif images awarded are the exact reason why I will never join flickr.

But you're here? Been some bad images posted here with great shot comments. Ok no awards but still. Stupid to write off Flickr because of that.
