Day 035 - 23/10/2009
Not much to report on today as I totally didn't take my camera out!
I missed digital media and photography this morning. I figured that I felt like crap, didn't get to sleep until 6am, and could catch up on the material in literally milliseconds. No harm done! I emailed in sick and all is well.
Went in for Promoting the Creative Industries and as always it was a very interesting lecture.
Rather than leaving this space blank, I thought I'd show you a shot of the steak mid cook.
It was heavenly.

Instructions for cooking student steak:
1. Remember your funds are limited.
2. While the fillet steak is tempting, are you really going to be able to tell the difference? Really?
3. Asda's own Beef Rib-Eye Steak £3.19, McCain's Rustic Oven Chips £1.10
4. Let the steak come down to room temperature. Take it out of the fridge, put it on a plate, and pour salt and pepper on both sides, rubbing it in with your fingers. Wait till it's room temperature. If it's still cold and you're really hungry, just chuck it in. You probably won't know the difference.
5. Warm up the oven for the chips, and get the pan hot. About 2/3 of the maximum heat. My hob goes to 6, so I put it on 4.
6. Pour oil into the pan and a spoonful of butter. Remember you're a student, so by butter, I actually mean flora.
7. Need to cook the chips for 22 minutes at 220 degrees, so make sure you have time for that. The hob/pan takes about 5 minutes to heat up and you're going to need 7 minutes cooking time and 3 minutes sitting time. Do the math.
8. Whack the steak in, letting it sizzle in that beautiful concoction of salt, pepper, oil and butter.
9. Be strict with timings. Or don't, it doesn't really matter. 2 ish minutes each side for rare, 5 minutes each side for well done. I did 3 1/2 each side and it was medium.
10. While I was heating the steak, I put the plate the steak was sitting on onto another hob ring to warm up.
11. Take the steak out of the pan, and put it onto the plate (obviously removing the plate from the hob).
12. Take a spoon, pour some of the oil onto the steak and allow it to sit on the hot plate for 3 minutes.
13. Serve with ketchup and chips!

Off to the girlfriend's in an hour, to spend the night with her and then we'll be doing stuff tomorrow for our 1 year. Let's hope we're on the up, but from the way she's been acting recently I think tomorrow will be a very pleasant hiccup in an otherwise downward spiral.
Uni has changed us both a lot. For the better, I feel, but it has affected our relationship for the worse.
