Day 058 - 15/11/2009

Both of these photos are from nights out, but I didn't take either of them (excuse the watermark, it's habit now, but yeah, I didn't take these photos, however I am friends with the owner of the compact, I didn't just steal them :p I'm yet to take my little camera out, damned skinny jeans :p)

Anyway, I've been pretty ill for the past couple of days, hence why I've been lagging behind on this. Just no motivation to go out and take photos.

Day 059 - 16/11/2009

Not much to report on. Tried to have a quiet night in, plenty of fluids, but yeah, couldn't sleep, feel like crap, stocking up on cold and flu tablets and vitamins.

2: what's with all the retro glasses :|

Day 060 - 17/11/2009

This photo pretty much sums up the past few days.
Miserable.
Everyone went home for the weekend so the weekend was rubbish.
I have a pretty bad cold.
My leg got infected and I've had to bandage it up and clean it several times a day.
I haven't been able to sleep.
My life sucks haha. ;)

Oh, and it's been raining. A lot.

Day 061 - 18/11/2009

Last night was Calvin Harris at Oceana, and it was awesome.

Today has been a much better day.
I started my day off with a doctor's appointment for a health check, turns out I'm completely healthy, except my BMI is 27 meaning I'm slightly overweight, and also I drink too much. Tell me something I don't know :p

I then completed all my christmas shopping.
Every birthday/mother's day/christmas for my mum I buy her a CD of a band she's never heard of but that I know she'll like.
This year I got her The Shins - Oh, Inverted World and Bright Eyes - Cassadega, all for the bargain price of under £10.
For my brother, I bought him Army of Two for Xbox 360 and a Deadmau5 CD for when he starts driving in January.
For my dad I got him a book - "Where The Hell Have You Been? Monty, Italy and One Man's Incredible Escape" a book about a WW2 POW, which I know he'll love.

Tonight is steak night, then I'm off to see the new Coen film 'A Serious Man' :D

Day 062 - 19/11/2009

Today I was going to go for a few pints with the lads in yates but felt properly rough and decided against it.
Instead, I stayed in and discovered something called 'DC++'. It's a file sharing service that uses a network as a hub. In my halls, all the computers are connected as a network.

A central hub connects the computers, and everyone can upload their photos and music and films and software to their 'shared folder', which everyone can then download from.
Safe to say there aren't any malicious people in halls and it's a really awesome system.

I downloaded backups (erherm) of my DVDs within about 30 seconds each file. I also got the whole of scrubs season 8 in about 5 minutes.

Anyway, awesome. I couldn't sleep though and ended up watching 6 episodes of scrubs before finally drifting off to sleep at around 4am. Up at 8am, presentation at 9am.

Me and a class mate did our presentation on Online Music and Piracy (oh the irony) and it was easily the best presentation. We were confident, our material was solid and the actual presentation of the - for lack of a better word - presentation was brilliant.

Basically, we rule.

On the other hand, his is the result of the lads' drinking last night.

:p

ewwwww-real students can still aim when drunk

DC++ rocks, when I get a decent rig running I'm gonna hit a few more lan parties and we run it there

great for sharing the love

(and who has the weirdest porn competitions)

watch out using applications such as DC++ on the Solent network...
just a tip ;]

watch out using applications such as DC++ on the Solent network...
just a tip ;]

set up your own wifi for others laptops will be slower but safer, torrenting at exe upsets the uni and gets nasty letters sent

which when I deny doing i can even be honest :D

i know one of the people who maintains the Resnet for Solent. just giving you a heads up :]

What should I be watching out for?

If it's using the network theoretically it's not using bandwidth so there shouldn't be an issue...

netwrok admins can watch data and ports if they notice you will probs get a nasty letter maybe kicked off the network maybe out of halls maybe out of uni, all depending on how much they care

torrenters usually get noticed because they eat bandwidth which makes admin check up on the ports

if they check its easy for them, if they never bother then you can keep going indefinitely

Yeah I know that, I don't use torrent.

DC++ is a file sharing network that allows me to connect to any computer within my halls of residence, and it's main purpose is to 'share notes or photos from nights out easily'...

good point, I've only ever used it for less legitimate purposes lol, dunno how that would fly, might sink the same way as I only torrent for linux distros

depends on the volume of traffic really, and the filenames

yes, but you are 1: consuming network bandwidth, and 2: using said bandwidth for the transfer of pirated files.

as i said, just be wary, as you are being monitored !

edit: plus, irrespective of what its "main purpose" is, you've already indicated you're using it to transfer music, films and tv rips :P

If you're sharing files internally on the network then it'll be fine. When I was at university we used all sorts like DC++. The network admins only really care if it's using the Internet connection heavily or if it's actually causing problems. I found that out the hard way!

But only for use as a back up! :p

Days 063-067 - 20/11/2009 till 24/11/2009

Sorry I've not been around much taking photos and such. Been rainy, busy and ill.
So here are some of the things I've done in the past 5 days:

-Went to a bar where the pints are 50p and snakebite is 70p
-Nearly got in a fight with a guy from my home county who insists that his parents are paid minimum wage but are taxed 50% of their income to subsidise people who live in more northern cities like Birmingham and Manchester because people there are lazy - insulted not only me, but a couple of guys from Birmingham and Manchester. This guy had not a clue what he was talking about.
-Had lots of curry
-Saw Harry Brown - sickkk film
-Done no uni work at all - deadline is this time next week for a 3000 word essay. I'll start it tomorrow. promise.
-Played a lot of Modern Warfare 2 - eek.
-Started trying to organise some accommodation for next year.
-Taken a bunch of photos, but only just got round to processing!

Day 068 - 25/11/2009

My girlfriend's grandfather died last night.
I felt terrible, as I had uni and couldn't be there for her, especially as her mum rang me and asked me to go down and be with her when she told her.

They all knew it was going to happen, he's been critical for a few days now. She went up to Coventry to see him, and got to see him awake and quite chirpy, and so I'm pleased her final memory of her granddad was of a tired, weary yet relentlessly and desperately happy old man. She'll think of him and smile, I hope.

Today we're going to finally see A Serious Man and eat dinner, then tonight I'm going to do some pub golf with my hall mates. Should be banter.

I think this photograph is fitting for the opening line.

Sorry to hear about your gf's grandfather, never an easy thing the passing of a close / loved one.

Hope your evening goes well, give her all the support she needs. People can behave unexplainably (I know that's not a real word, sorry) at harsh & sensitive times.

I've never really dealt with it. My grandmother died but I wasn't really very close to her at all.

She's very upset, and I've tried to comfort her, but she's got a girl's night in planned with chocolate and gory horror films so I think that should cheer her up.

The word I believe you're looking for is inexplicably :)

Day 069 - 26/11/2009

Today has been a very good day.

Stuff that has happened today:

-In 'Communications and Research' we had to analyse an advert from a publication and do a brief presentation/verbal announcement of our findings. Everyone did theirs and got slated by the lecturer for various things. Obviously not in a nasty way, the lecturer was simply just doing her job and pointing out things that they hadn't mentioned or questioning their reasoning. It came to my turn, I did this advert: Click here - should be 'Engineered by Animals, Tested on Humans'
At the end of it I was given a jokey round of applause from my class and my lecturer smiled and laughed and said, "No seriously that was actually very good, the only thing you could of commented on further was the use of font and the colour yellow"
I won't let it go to my head, but I'm a genius.

-I ordered some tickets for Kevin Devine, one of my favourite musicians, and he's playing 3rd March

-I ordered some free tickets for the E4 Slacker's Club at the local Picture House cinema for 'Le Donk & Scor-Zay-Zee' - a 'rockumentary' about 2 rappers/MC's filmed by 'This Is England' Shane Meadows. Well excited, and best part is that they're free. Nothing better than seeing a British independent film in a British independent cinema by a fantastic British independent director for free! I'll be supporting him by no doubt actually buying the DVD when it comes out

-I've finished my christmas shopping, and wrapped it all up - now just the GF to buy for

The only thing that has put a slight downer on the day is an argument with my girlfriend. It was very petty - I was saying I wanted to see Paranormal Activity to see what the fuss was about, and she said we should see it, and I said "Hell no! Way too scary!" and she just threw a strop saying I was being a **** and that I should just forget the film even existed and stop being indecisive. I let her off, due to recent events, apologised and changed the subject, I'm seeing her tonight so hopefully she won't start an argument with me. I don't want to argue with her, especially not when she's upset about things that aren't related to me and her.

funky, theres an Exeter picture house which must be part of the brand as it matches the description v well apart from the sea part

Day 070 - 27/11/2009

I slept for about an hour in total last night. I tried sleeping in my girlfriend's bed with her, but it was too hot, and I just couldn't dose off, and she suggested at 4am that I go back to my own room. I did so, and she text me all ****ed off like, and tried to make me feel guilty for 'leaving her'.

Today I have my longest day - 6 hours of uni. Not exactly a long day in the great scheme of things.

2 house viewings at 6:30 tonight, and then I'm going out with one of my hall mates to do some time lapse stuff. I fully expect to be in bed by 11. Shock horror, I know.

Oh, and I just had a bowl of 'choco snaps' which were very disappointing, but I'm about to have a glass of Innocent Fruit Smoothie Banana, Pineapple and Coconut, which I know will hit the spot, and give me 2 of my 5 a day! Aren't I a good boy :) 2 big cartons for £4 in Lidl at the moment. Hell of a lot cheaper than making my own smoothie, and probably a lot nicer and healthier, too.

Take from me, that's the same with them all ... they just come in different flavor :p

Wail speaks the truth, she'll grow out of it to a certain extent in a few years.

Day 040 - 28/10/2009

Today I set my alarm for 7am. Woke up at 7am and had a few texts from Sophie. Last night she was being terrorised by someone down her corridor again. She needs to be careful she doesn't alienate herself but there's not much I can do about it other than reassure her.

Anyway, yeah, grabbed my phone and turned off the alarm, laid back in bed to text Sophie back, and next thing I know, I'm waking up, it's quarter past ten.

In the words of the lord, "OH MY ME!"

Sorry to quote an old post,I'm just reading through this..I'm a fresher too so it's quite funny to read this...

This post here describes some of my mornings perfectly!

So many times I've set the alarm woke up and turned it off and then woke up moments before a lecture,Or just as it finishing :bonk:

with rich :D

tellher to man the **** u-p seriously 'leaving her' going to sleep down/upstairs ALONE the bitch got some issues

Haha, as I've been told many times.

Wail speaks the truth, she'll grow out of it to a certain extent in a few years.

I'm hoping they all do :p

Shocking isn't it haha. I feel terrible when something like that happens but you just have to shrug it off and roll over :D

with rich :D

tellher to man the **** u-p seriously 'leaving her' going to sleep down/upstairs ALONE the bitch got some issues

Easy on the slander dude :p
She does have some issues - she's homesick, she's not very social, she's insecure, her grandfather who she was close to just passed, she's developing a high blood pressure from high amounts of stress, and she just quit her job because she hates it.

Now, what I can't deal with is that these issues are being passed on to me. I'm finding myself stressed out, unhappy, frustrated. I'm all there for supporting her but I'm paying a LOT of money for this course, the last thing I need is World War 3 - Relationship style.

The one thing I've learned, from my little escapades with women, is that they're like a Baskin Robin's kiosk ....

... They're very pretty and colourful, very tasty, smell great, groomed fine, nice to have one in your hand, melt easy (especially in my part of the world :p ... no innuendoes here please) but at the end of the day an ice cream is an ice cream .. just different flavours.

Personally, I love 99 ... plain and simple!

On a more serious note, your gf does seem to have a lot of things going not too well these days, and you've been very supportive. Good on you  ... keep it up and you will find it very rewarding, in too many ways.

Day 071 - 28/11/2009

Today I start my assignment. We couldn't really start the essay properly until we'd finished all the lectures on monday 23rd november, and the deadline is on tuesday 1st december.

2000 word essay, 1000 word reflective log and 6 visual tasks. I've done all the visual tasks, so far today, and now I'm about to start the reflective log.

In hindsight, starting 4 days before my deadline was stupid, I should have started monday and had more time to do it. I'm going to make a conscious effort to not let this happen again.

All my hall mates are going to see Paranormal Activity tonight. I hope they get really scared as I want proof that it's terrifying.

4131362143_b3d262a63d_o.jpg

Foodpoison, you keep saying that you keep falling asleep again after the alarm goes off.

When I was about your age (which wasn't all that long ago!) I found a pretty obvious solution, - it annoyed me that I hadn't already thought of it.

Put the alarm clock at the other side of the room - that way you have to get out of bed to turn it off and since you've got up, you'll be less inclined to climb back into bed again ;)
