Pick the one on the left?

I now cannot decide which one I want to enter

I panicked and just picked one, I was worried I was going to miss yet another
deadline

Just a few hours left to get these in......good luck to everyone

The film section of the spreadsheet is now finished and fully automated. I've uploaded replacement tables for each month in the new format. I will upload the poty ones later.

I've got points :woot: :woot: :woot:

Congratulations to Steve, another excellent film shot

Yes, well done Steve for an amazing shot, congrats to Nick and commiserations to Richard for the size problem. I was pretty sure I was going to lose my one point when Loopy's entry was added, so very happy with the resolution of that!

Thanks for the comments :)

I took the photo in the first week of May and was really pleased with it. Spent the rest of the month trying to better it but came nowhere close.

Well, I started this thinking I would at least enter every month, but I've nothing at all for "Care" and no real ideas either! After some trial shots with an egg in an eggcup, I've given up on the Chiaroscuro idea with available light! Oh dear... I'll keep thinking...

I'm really struggling with 'care' too, like you I thought I would enter every month but I'm coming to the conclusion that I don't really care enough.

Ha, yes! OK, maybe I should enter a selfie, with the title "should have cared more for himself when younger"?

order something from "rocky cameras" then when it arrives take a photo of something that wasn't "handled with care"

Brilliant, it's good to know Rocky is appreciated

I think my entry will be something of that order! Or perhaps there's a page in one of my old Pentax manuals entitled "Care for your camera"! (Looking at the lovely but battered ME, it's obvious I didn't read the page if it exists...)

My June entry is in the lap of the postal gods... sent film off to Peak today using their 2nd class freepost. Last (first) time I used them, I posted on Wednesday and got them back Saturday, which is pretty good. This time I'm getting low res scans as well, as we're away and won't be home until Saturday night. Fingers crossed!

Hope you get it back on time Chris.

I've yet to take my photo yet...better get moving on it.

Still away... now my OH is talking about going home on Sunday, which might make it all rather a rush!

Hope you can get it in on time Chris,

and good luck to everyone who enters.

Well we got back after 6 tonight... and the film had arrived back... but not happy with any of them! So back to plan B, sent in at 23:16 and thankfully got the confirmation email. Phew!

Glad you managed to get it in on time Chris.... and good luck to all the film entrants

Congratulations to Steve for wining the Film section this month with a lovely shot. Commiserations to Sectionate and Raglansurf who join me with null points.

There's a slight glitch in the Film spreadsheet that Darren is aware of and is correcting: currently I appear to have won the Film section in March despite having no points at all!

I'm having problems with my poster: the model turned up (and returns tomorrow), but the props are apparently in Shetland! Hunting desparately for alternative ideas...

Thanks Chris.

Was a great round for me in terms of learning something new. Was really pleased with me entry, even though it didn't score any points in the overall competition.

One of the limitations of film, is not knowing if the result is what you want until the film has been developed and the opportunity gone. But it really made me appreciate the skill and expertise of those photographers in the past. I used a digital camera to get the lighting broadly right before switching to film. But thinking of those photographers in the 40s and 50s taking those wonderful Hollywood portraits; they only had a few chances to get it right.

Im intrigued by your props in Shetland Chris :) ....hope you are able to get together what you need in time.

Thats what polaroid backs for the Hassy/Bronica were for ;)

lol...yes...I do have a polaroid back for mine but baulk at the cost of film for it.

With or without polaroid backs, I'm still in awe of those who regularly and consistently produced such high results.

Maybe it comes with experience, but I find I can still only get to about 80% of what I see in my head compared to the resulting photo, and in many cases it's a lot less than that :)

Right, plan A was a no-show because of absence of props. I had a shot for plan B, but it was lacking a certain something. Plan C was a mosaic of shots, some of which are on a film posted yesterday, unlikely to make it back before Wednesday (the same film also perhaps having something to make up for the something lacking in plan B). But applying both would require quite a lot of time in post-processing, given my complete lack of skills in that area...

So I've tarted up plan B and sent it in!

Now, Humble... Humble?

Mine is in for July now.

Good luck to all the film entrants.

I'm struggling with humble too....going to be a really interesting month i think

Not sure August could possibly be as "interesting" as the poster event this month! After struggling for ideas and almost chucking it, I ended up with too many ideas, and played with a trial version of Elements to try to make some of them work. I've probably learned more this month than any since the focus stacking trial in... March?

Nothing from me this month :(

Me too Chris.

Yes...agree that this poster theme is probably the most interesting month for the entire POTY 2013. Great idea for a theme and really looking forward to the results.

I think humble will be interesting too, mainly as it's a difficult theme to interpret so I'm looking forward to seeing what outside the box thinking goes on.

Brilliant result, Steve! I've no idea why you didn't get first place, although I've never (consciously) seen the poster that inspired the winner, so it just looks plain weird to me. Whereas yours shows a sustained degree of effort and artistic intention that to me is truly staggering. Heartiest congratulations...

Chris, thank you so much for the kind comments.

I really enjoyed this round and have to say that although it was time consuming, it was a lot of fun photographing so many family and friends wearing a Che beret. What was a bit scary was that everyone over the age of 25-30ish knew who he was and was familiar with the iconic image. But of those under that age only maybe 1 in 10 knew him. When I was a teenager in the late 70s/early 80s it seemed that everyone had that poster.

I also avoided having to do anything with text in photoshop, which was a relief as I don't have much of a clue about it. :)

I have to agree with the judges though in giving first place to Damien...I thought his recreation was exceptional.

Still struggling for ideas for humble....waiting for some burst of inspiration.

Steve,

I have to say that your idea was my first and in March I took some photo,s of a friend with the beret, but, with an iconic Japanese mask, when I started work on the photo it was sooooo difficult I gave up.

Well let me tell you now Steve your entry in film was without doubt the best interpretation of an Iconic poster that I have ever seen and the operative word is Iconic.

My own personal view is it should have won bye miles, for two of the judges not even to rate your work in the top three is without doubt an amazement to me, but ha ho there you go.

Steve, fantastic, quality and beautiful film work. A massive congratulations.

Richard.
