F1 season 2016

Mercedes are looking ominous. They've done 4/5 race distances in the first few days of the test! I've never known a team do so many laps, so soon. Pretty fast & haven't used the soft tyre yet!

Arnt they just
Mercedes are so confident that they are trialing new parts A new nose with S duct they call Bruce? A w floor and new front wing
Lets hope Ferrari can give them a good run for there money

We don't want reverse grids Bernie. It's the pinnacle of motorsport for a reason. I didn't see all these rules being brought in when Ferrari were constantly winning or Red Bull, in fact when caught out with flexing body parts, both teams were forgiven.

Dont forget the most radical change ever
You can vote for the driver of the day
Wow wont that make a difference
Talk about engaging with social media this should set the forums on fire
Or maybe not

How much will the subscription to the voting service cost after the first free season? :P

New qualifying delayed until mid season soft ware isnt ready
Bernie says they are all mad except him
Time to go Bernie
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/123000
Bernie says things for attention, even he must know that in today's F1 if you are behind someone you need a decent car advantage to get past easily. Add a couple of seconds to the pole sitter will put them in the back half of the grid. They'd get through to 7th/8th easy enough sure but then may struggle a bit and very unlikely to win!

There are always daft stories and ideas floating around at the end of the closed season - Bernie's got to keep F1 in the news somehow!

Trying to figure what Bernie is doing is interesting
The promoter has said he wouldnt buy a ticket to see F1 yet his job is to get us to pay to watch F1 either on sky or in the stands
He is attempting to alter qualifying to upset the order or is to upset the manufactures present and keep out manufacturers in the future by threatening new rules to destabilize
Bernie is all about Bernie power and at the moment he is loosing out hands down
If only 2 cars raced and bernie still thought he was in power it would suit him fine

The halo concept is now in testing.

Ferrari debuts 'halo' cockpit protection concept
Ferrari has caused a stir by rolling its car out on the third day of the second pre-season test with a head protection canopy attached.

The first time the much discussed concept has been seen in public, Kimi Raikkonen took the SF16-T out with a dual pronged canopy attached. It features a central strut attached ahead of the cockpit and stretches above and around the head to attach either side of the cockpit.

A surprise unveiling by Ferrari, the public reveal is a sure sign that development of the concept is already at an advanced stage having been on the drawing board for the last few months.

Drivers have shown almost unanimous support for the introduction of cockpit protection following recent high profile accidents, most notably that of ex-F1 driver Justin Wilson, who died in an IndyCar race last August after he was struck by errant debris at the Pocono Speedway.

With the FIA looking into a variety of ideas, the 'halo' concept has emerged as the most likely candidate for introduction, with Ferrari's reveal suggesting it could be well on course for a mooted 2017 debut.

How the b*****ks is he gonna see the lights at the start?

Well, it might restrict vision.... But atleast there's some extra space for advertising....

Follow up story, with a (typically short) comment from Kimi about visibility.

Kimi Raikkonen says the visibility of Formula 1's proposed halo head protection system "was OK" according to Ferrari, after becoming the first driver to try it during pre-season testing.

Raikkonen turned his installation lap on Thursday morning with the device fitted to his Ferrari SF16-H.

The team was keen to get a driver's opinion on how the device impacts on their vision.

Ferrari says the design is an early prototype that it produced itself, based on its own interpretation and is "pretty close" to what it expects the final shape to be.

As it was only a temporary fix, designed and produced mainly to gauge a driver's opinion regarding visibility, it did not have a hinge that would allow for easier extraction.

As a result, it complicated how Raikkonen climbed inside the cockpit when it was attached.

hinged entry and exit sounds good but I bet its a swine when you are upside down

Formula 1's new UK broadcaster Channel 4 has revealed who will present its coverage of the sport in 2016.

C4, which replaces the BBC as the UK's free-to-air F1 broadcaster this year, has chosen Steve Jones - best known for presenting The X Factor USA - to front its coverage.

"There are a lot of elements we will be changing," said Jones. "I am beyond excited to be part of C4's F1 coverage. I am a huge fan so it really is a dream come true."

He joins the previously confirmed David Coulthard, while Ben Edwards retains the lead commentator he previously held at the BBC alongside the Scotsman - who will also appear as 'lead expert analyst'.

Ex-HRT and Lotus driver Karun Chandhok has been named as 'technical analyst', with former Williams development driver Susie Wolff and nine-time Grand Prix winner Mark Webber also taking on 'expert analyst' roles along with Coulthard.

"I'm very proud to be part of C4 team in F1 this season," said Wolff. "The start of the F1 season is not far away and we are all raring to go."

Lee MacKenzie reprises her BBC pitlane reporting role, while completing the rotating line-up of pundits are Eddie Jordan - who is also part of the BBC's revamped Top Gear programme - Bruno Senna, Alain Prost, Nicolas Hamilton and veteran commentator Murray Walker.

It was also confirmed that former Williams F1 driver and CART champion Alex Zanardi will also be making 'guest' appearances on C4's coverage, while current Renault driver Jolyon Palmer will also be a columnist.

Murray Walker will also be a guest presenter according to espn.

Channel 4 has announced the presenting team to lead its Formula One coverage, which includes broadcasting legend Murray Walker and four-time world champion Alain Prost.

Former Williams, McLaren and Red Bull driver David Coulthard, a 13-time grand prix winner, has been signed from the BBC, will be alongside Ben Edwards in the commentary box. Former T4 and X Factor USA host Steve Jones will front the coverage.

Former Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who now competes in the World Endurance Championship, will perform an analyst role alongside former Williams test driver Susie Wolff. Wolff retired from motor racing at the end of 2015.

Broadcasting legend Walker, who first commentating on a motor race in 1948 and started with the BBC in the late 1970s, is also part of the team as a guest presenter. Joining him will be Nic Hamilton, younger brother of three-time world champion Lewis.

Bruno Senna, nephew of three-time world champion Ayrton, is also on the team alongside his uncle's long-time rival Prost. Former Hispania driver Karun Chandhok joins Eddie Jordan as an analyst, while Lee Mckenzie retains her BBC role of pitlane reporter. Alex Zanardi, the former Williams driver who lost both legs in a 2001 IndyCar crash and won Paralympic gold at London 2012, is also part of the team, while Renault driver Jolyon Palmer will be a columnist for the website

Presenting must be difficult now days because every show needs 36 presenters to share duties... All that standing and talking must really be exhausting. Or maybe they wanted to have more presenters than top gear... Either way, I'll be watching it on sky

It's just an imaginative (but totally impractical and slightly ugly) design by an Alfa fan. Just for starters, does the driver amputate his head to fit into the cockpit with the glass closed?

No idea, I just thought it looked cool.

Star Trek style engine pods on the back has an element of cool, I suppose. Still think it's pretty ugly overall though...

Just had a thought, maybe it's the first driverless F1 car, the design of the cockpit would be almost workable then.

Suzi Perry has been confirmed as going back to bikes - she joined BT Sport for the Moto GP. Should be great with Gav and Neil Hodgson.

So does anyone subscribe to Sky Sports just to get all the F1 races live? I did last year, this year I have gone with BT Sport to get the IndyCar races live.

Not me! I enjoy watching F1 when possible but refuse to line the pockets of the likes of Murdoch and Ecclestone for the privilege. I'll watch the ones on C4 and the highlights shows when I remember and will follow the politics and technical side on Autosport, Pitpass et al..

I watch on Sky. Don't have sky sports though. I get sky sports F1 with the Hd package, I think they have changed that for new customers now though.

I subscribe for other things as well, most notably cricket. I have BT sport for Moto GP and Indycar (I find Indycar dull on conventional circuits though), and Premier for NASCAR, because in motor racing terms there's little more entertaining than a bunch of good ol' boys charging round and round in circles at 200mph in cars which are lacking aero, handling, grip and brakes, but are very well supplied with power and weight.

Eurosport (enduance racing and speedway) is on the sky package and Motors (full WEC coverage) is free. WEC is my favourite series, will be going to the season opener at Silverstone next month.:D
