F1 season 2016

There has always and always will be fuel saving in F1, teams always fuel the car light for faster laps when they can then rely on safety car or fuel saving during less frantic stages of the race to make it to the end. I remember the old turbo days when they had to turn them down or run out of fuel, some failed to turn them down enough on occasions :)

Yes, but still frustrating when they have to do, rather than being able to go for it and challenge at that point in time, rather than possibly later in race "in case" something happens ....Would be good to be able to see them racing for all the race - it is F1 after all and they are supposed to be the best of the best with the best equipment.

The 15th of January is approaching fast and the teams are (if rumours are correct) going to offer the small teams a £12 million cut in the price of the engines with certain parts standardized
Bernie will not be happy

That was impressive footage of Verstappen driving a Red Bull on a snowy Alp.

For those wanting more noise.

Formula 1 fans can look forward to a much louder sport this season due to changes to the exhaust rules.

The introduction of 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engines in 2014 heralded a new era in Formula 1 and a much quieter one.

Heavily criticised by fans and F1 personalities alike, last year the World Motor Sport Council approved a rule change whereby the wastegate on cars has to exit via a separate tailpipe from 2016 onwards.

This, Williams technical chief Pat Symonds says, will mean the engines will be "20-25 per cent louder."

Speaking at the Autosport International Show, he explained: "In the past, everyone has run wastegate pipes into the main tailpipe of the engine and what we have to do in 2016 is separate them.

"The wastegate on a modern turbo engine doesn't open very much.

"We have a motor generator attached to the turbocharger which is one of the ways we harvest waste energy and that controls the compressor speed rather than using a rather inefficient wastegate.

"So we really try not to open it very much. In race trim, it's hardly ever open and in qualifying, we open it a bit.

"You might think, if you're not opening the wastegate, you won't hear much difference but that is not quite true.

"Because there is a pipe joining the wastegate and main tailpipe, it acts as a side branch resonator. Fancy name, what does it mean?

"It means actually even with the wastegate closed, it acts like a silencer in the exhaust.

"Getting rid of that means it'll be a bit louder.

"In terms of what you will perceive, with the wastegate closed, you'll perceive it is around 14 per cent louder.

"With the wastegate open, it'll actually be 20-25 per cent louder, so quite significant.

Well I arnt too sure about the halo but if it works then all well and good
But the tyre issue is another slap in the face for Bernie just how many nudges can this man take before he topples

IF the halo works. Personally, I rather doubt it would have stopped that spring hitting Massa a few years ago or that it would have been strong enough to save JB. Then again, you can't make anything perfectly safe!

Looks like Maldonado is gone, in favour of Magnussen.

Decent decision, to have a decent driver rather than one with rich friends.

Could turn up at Manor if his backing is still something like good and not politically blocked, bit short notice for Manor but money talks

Yep, apparently he brings up to £45m. It would be interesting to see what manor could do with that. Only thing is PDVSA appear not to pay on time, & the oil price will be really hurting them.

£45m was the budget for the marrussia team, so would be a welcome income to manor.

It is looking doubtful if PDVSA will pay out but you never know

Chances are Alex Rossi and Pascal Wehrlein. are in with a good chance at Manor but so is Will Stevens and Rio Haryanto That is if Kevin goes to Renault

Indeed, he's supposed to be pretty good at car development too, so that could be very good news for them. Not sure how well he'd cope from the back rows, though.... could be eventful!

Manor are running with Mercedes power this year, they shouldn't be perennial back row cars this season.

Yes, hopefully - they're having input from Williams as well I believe, so potential there as well...

Lets hope for the odd wet race to add a more level playing field and spice things up a bit :)

The only issue being if Maldonado's backers would bring that amount of money to a smaller team.I'd imaging they'd use that as a way of minimising their outgoings

Given the diminishing oil price, it may suit them to leave altogether.

Oh, but think of poor Maldonado, what would happen to the talentless pr*ck without someone paying for him to drive?

If they had insurance premiums in F1 the entire grid would get a large discount if he didn't get a drive ;).

Bet he's more talented as an F1 driver than any of us... ;)

According to Webber he is probably at the bottom of the talented F1 drivers
He does tend to be erratic but he didnt come to F1 from driving a milk float
He won the 2010 GP2 series and even won the 2012 spanish GP from pole
would he have got a seat if his back pocket wasnt full of sheckles I dont know probably not
but he does drive fast and "spices" up the show a damn site better than DRS and wear out fast tyres

Even the bottom of the F1 talent pile is way above any of us!

Agreed he didnt get a seat just from money alone

I hope the Renault paint job isn't the final design. It's not very interesting!

Should've gone retro, or yellow and blue to make alonso dream of winning again...

Black and gold / silver thats nearly a john players lotus colours not Renault I hope they will change it

Maybe to a camouflage design then if the engines still poor we might not notice it

I think she should have gone the yellow and black route of the RS01.

Lots of speculation about Schumacher's health following Luca's comments of earlier.

Just what his family asked for - NOT!

I think people are putting two and two together and coming up with a very obvious response. If you ask anyone how he is, even if you don't know any things about things you are bound to come up with 'not good' given we haven't seen or heard from him in two years. Whatever, it is a really sad state of affairs.

Skiing can be dangerous (clearly not as dangerous as motorsport). There have been many deaths already this year including a woman down the road from me earlier this week. Still looking forward to going next weekend myself!
