Every little helps!?! Tesco Broadband? Pah! *update*

Up to my sodding eyes in it TBH, :(
Perhaps I should have said I need some light relief :D

As above I've hardly had it out ( Camera before you ... :p )
in months :(

Awww never mind you had a nice long rest

Don't get mine out much either these days, but I do have a few days off shortly and have plans ;)

So curiouser and curiouser ..
the free router arrived and of course is not plug and play, like I was told "But I'll send you the codes anyway"
Yeah he did send me the codes for the wifi, but not for the wired connection.

I did a speed test on the old one, before attempting the swap, its still struggling with 1.5Mbs.

Swapping back to the old one for now, till he clocks on Monday morning, and sends me the appropriate codes,
I left the new leads in place and just swapped the router.

A couple of speed tests about an hour apart and I guess what could be called "peak times"
the down stream is now 3.45Mbs!
Incidentally that's not possible here ;)

Surely it wasn't as simple as a re-boot (done that loads of times before) and new cables?

So got the codes fired up the new router and guess what?
Error 651 (what ever that is) basically it won't connect the the internet, but the Wifi works well.

Time to give up on this I think.
I'll email him back and ask when he would like the router sticking I mean sending back to

Give them a call and ask them to ping the router
TBH Keith I've had enough, the next email they get will be for my migration code.

Cobra as of 20th June MAC codes are no longer required to transfer... Ofcom have done away with them and makes transition from one ISP to another quicker.

Cheers for the info, I didn't know that

I work in the industry but its in the public domain so its not like im giving away trade secrets.

I've been with the same supplier since the days of dial up (tesco obviously) and now Talk Talk as they bought their "interests"
So I've never swapped suppliers voluntary.

I'm guessing then I just just phone up say BT and say I want to swap, and they do the rest?

Yup, Openreach will get the request via BT retail and Openreach then relay that back to the losing supplier. I believe there is still a 2 week turnaround to allow the losing supplier to try and retain and make sure the account is closed down correctly if not retained.

Thanks again

Well they have excelled themselves today
I thought that my connection was slow!
0.35 Mb/s
EE gives me double that on their mobile service
Recover the router from the front garden, ( I'd thrown it out the window)
Re boot and re set and and it gave error 651
repeat as above.

Finally it came back on line, 15 mins later.
Speed check, and it came out at a little over 4Mbs.
The line here cannot cope with 3Mbs, according to BT
f*** knows !

sounds like you have DLM (Dynamic line management) control on your line. It throttles your line when it becomes unstable. Your provider should be able to instruct Openreach to put you on a fixed rate connection. It might not be much more than 1mb/s but it will be stable.

I done't really understand any of that, but I had the same issue with Tesco's awhile before Talk Talk took over,
after a lot of phone calls and emails,
Tesco sorted it and it remained fairly constant at around 2.5Mbs.

The strange thing is I get wild fluctuations at all times of the day and night, I've even run speed tests earlier hours of the morning
week-days and recorded sub 1Mbs.

The line has been tested by a BT (Open reach? ) engineer from inside my house, and declared to be one of the better ones in the area.
Apparently there is about 4.5k of cable between me and the exchange.
So I dunno, I just wonder if I do swap providers if I'm going to have to go through all this again?

To be honest if you have a crap line, or openreach are being a pain, then changing your suppliers wont do diddly squat

Openreach provide and maintain all the lines etc. used by the various non cable supliers

To be honest if you have a crap line, or openreach are being a pain
As above the line apparently isn't crap and O/R were very helpful when I spoke to them

At 4.5k that's bordering the limits of what the ADSL technology can reasonably provide. I am quite surprised that you managed at stable 2.5mb/s

Being one the better ones in your area means nothing i'm afraid if they are all crap in the first place

Also being "helpful" on the phone etc doesn't equate to not being a pain in reality

Your current woes lay testament to this

Just lucky I guess :D
Fibre is supposed to be at local cabinet ( a couple of hundred yards away) 2 years ago, every month, as the deadline approaches, they push it back a month.

As I said OR have never been the problem, Tescos were, they sorted it Talk talk took over and the problem started again.
... And worse,

I am assuming you have tried plugging your router directly into the test socket for 24 hours and see if that makes a difference?

:D well I just checked it again, 3 hours later and its dropped to 3.9 & 0.9
So I guess by this time tomorrow it'll be back to 1 & .5

Because you've sacrificed all the MK Virgins to ensure good MegaMeet weather for the past 2 years...
Fair point well presented
I just hope is a new batch ready for next years should @Yv and I be mad enough to go for the hat trick

jeez............... want me to write and send the email for you? I have CEO's queueing up to call me.. literally last week.. 3 called in an hour... (well 2 CEO and one from CEO office)

Lets say national windscreens are not my friend and after they bluffed the "we have dashcams".. "good.. get him in and watch the evidence"

Thanks Lynton, thats a kind offer, ever since I sent the last snotty email,
my connection has been stable at around 3.5mbs.

I've just replied to the CEO's office lacky, asking why the hell does my speed increase every time I send a complaint in...

I am sure they will get back to you once they have finished replying to all the emails from your neighbors asking why they no longer have an internet connection :D
