Every little helps!?! Tesco Broadband? Pah! *update*

I am sure they will get back to you once they have finished replying to all the emails from your neighbors asking why they no longer have an internet connection :D
PMSL :D

How on earth did we used to manage with 56kb/s on dial up? ;)

one line at a time!

Can't remember what the baud rate was 3? years ago when we used to literally put the phone handset on a cradle to transfer information but it was

not

fast...

Bad enough when sending a few lines of BASIC but of course multi MB files were a long way in the future back then (for mortals!)

I still remember 56Kb/s

Used to have a US Robotics modem in those days

Button A or B? ;)

Button A or B? ;)
Yep I know what you are talking about, that's how they caught the great train robbers,
one of them made a call, but instead of pressing Button A they pressed B by mistake and 4 coppers came out

Lol our first line was 75 baud to Middlesex poly.
Before that we cut paper tape and sent them through the post.

My first job was watching a Bridport CNC machine, finger on the stop button in case it went FUBAR! I wasn't allowed to load the punched tape programmes, just hit the button. In the 6 weeks, I only had to do it once. Soul destroying but it kept me in fags and petrol.

This was the first computer I worked with - an ICL 2904. The hard discs sitting on top of the disc drives are 200Mb each. We had card readers and tape too.View attachment 42228

There was no internet connection. We used to transfer hard discs...

I had a little chuckle today Ken Bruce was doing one of his email in things and the subject was Broad band,
There were a few that were chuckle worthy, but the best for was the guy who's BB speed had been halved.
He csaid it was fine until recently, when another company took them over ( sound familiar?)
Anyhow they claimed that the speed he was getting was not possible on his line, no one could offer those speeds ( sounds familiar!)
in response to him asking for his migration code.

However they did add, if you stay with us, we can double your speed ( but don't tell everyone ;) )
I guess he didn't, just the estimated 6,000,000 listeners :D

We had loads of problems with TalkTalk (originally with Tiscali). Our speed was around 2 Mb, but every time they launched a new advertising campaign (coincidence?) our speeds would drop below 1Mb & we continually lost connection during the day, just for a few seconds.....but extremely annoying!

Also, I found using THEIR speed-checker was always showing a little higher than the BT one. Mmmm? (which was always in line with a couple of others) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

To cut a very long story short. After trying a new router, filters etc & they saying the problem was at my end, then they wanted to send out a `bright spark` engineer.....AT MY EXPENSE, I repeatedly berated their customer service (& Indian call-centre `help`) on their forum over a couple of weeks, I eventually got Dido Harding's personal Email & after a couple of phone calls..............sorted!

I also asked for DLM to be switched off & a slightly different profile to be tried.

Everything has been fine, stable, no drop outs & around 8Mb for over a year now.

Fibre has recently been added at our local exchange etc & I could now get around 25Mb according to a couple of suppliers, but obviously at extra cost.

Off topic- I'm having problems posting to this site - weird.
I can post to this thread but not to 'advertising my services'

I've had that for awhile (as per a few posts back) and a couple of her monkey's also reply. it was stable over last week end ( as above) exceeding 3Mbs
but since then its between 1&2Mbs
Tis only morbid curiosity that keeps me going with them,
Sooner or later I'll switch though ;)

Do you had an ad blocker switched on?
It "kills" anything with the words "Advertising" in the title.

Well certainly ABP does.
We discovered this because of replying to threads in the staff room that are "advertising requests"
Try switching it off or "allow this site" and see if that works.

I use Adblocker.
Ta.

Edit. Tried that and it works now.

We were thoroughly p!55ed off with them near the end & if they hadn't stopped throttling us & got it sorted, I told D. Harding & also their online community help site, I would `WalkWalk` but also make everyone aware of their tactics & poor service via any means possible. I also threatened I would wage war via 'tinterweb/social media etc etc (actually I'm a techie dinosaur.....but they didn't know that)

Anyroad we have been stable for over a year now with speeds around 8Mb, so happy......for now.

was crowing like a erm crow last monday,
" you have been connected for 1 day & 17 hours with no drops and have a sync speed of 3.8Mb/s, which is the best I have ever seen it"

I'm back to 1.3mbs again.
This is after the new router he sent me, you know the one that's faulty? ;)

I wonder if @talktalk.co.uk browse the internet looking for complaints?
I doubt it, but #talktalk.co.uk really are a shower.

.

Erm, having no wish to read 6 pages of guff, how the F do you get from the title to TalkTalk?

Whilst they are very poor at customer problems, most of the time (and for many years), my experiences are more than happy with TalkTalk.

Its not guff its all relevant and if you did read it all, you would see how and why the thread evolved :p

However the abridge version is Talk Talk bought out Tesco's "interests" in BB.
the service has now reverted back to the original crap service.
