Edinburgh traffic wardens at their best

It's all very well having a pop at the traffic warden but look at the photo. My wife is disabled and we come across this a lot. The machine has been left on the pavement right on a bend / crossing point that would force her into the road if she was using a mobility scooter. You'll notice it's also parked on the dropped kerb, scooters ain't like a 4x4 off roader, how does she get off the pavement without moving into flowing traffic to pass it - note it's two lanes with a dirty big bus in one of them. Problem with the photo is that you can't see how far someone would need to travel in flowing traffic at ~4mph to get back onto the pavement at a suitable dropped kerb, and is it safe to be on that road at 4mph on a mobility scooter? Similar for someone with a buggy.

If you look at where the vehicle is parked you'll also notice that it's on the tactile surface. Tactile paving is designed to enable visually impaired people to move about with more freedom and confidence. Its surfaces impart important information about their surroundings and are used to warn of hazards or directional guidance. Bang- a bl00dy cleaning wagon sat on top of it.

It's oh so easy to laugh at this sort of thing and have a go at "Yet another moronic brain dead ''Parking Attendant'' jobs worth flexing his muscles but not his grey matter" as one commenter proclaimed in the comments section. But what about the cleansing operatives common sense, leaving his cart in an "awkward" location creating a number of serious issues for the mobility and visually impaired? It works both ways!

I too fail to see the issue.
If the "cart" was left unattended in that location, the ticket was wholly warranted.

Can't speak for Edinburgh council, but round here that is a pavement sweeper, not a road sweeper, so would expect to find it on the pavement, can't say why it's unattended though.

I agree - and the stuff about the council having to pay itself 60 quid is bobbins as well - chances are the driver will be personally liable for fines incurred (certainly when I was at a council we were if we got ticketed in a council vehicle)

don't want a ticket - don't park like a bell end whatever you are driving , simples

Ah, have a go at people time by the local press.
Quite apart from what Ian says, what the 'newspaper' doesn't bother to mention, nor would the morons who commented know, is that traffic wardens don't have, nor ever have had any discretion.
As for the article bemoaning an ambulance getting a ticket, there's no automatic defence for parking on restricted streets. A ticket can be canceled if the driver can shown it was necessary to park there. It's easy to do, 10 seconds filling in a form.

I agree. People are always complaining about getting tickets from traffic wardens as if it was the warden's fault that they didn't park properly.

And everyone I know who has ever got a ticket has always come out with the same "I was only there for five minutes" routine as if that was somehow relevant.

It's easy. Don't park where you shouldn't and you won't get a ticket (there's a similar method which works with speed cameras too!).

When I worked in Edinburgh a couple of years ago I saw the "blue meanies" at work on a regular basis, but, one day whilst parked (legally) I watched one stop hos scooter behind a car on double yellows, guy got off and walked around it taking pictures and then started to write up the ticket, I got out the van and wandered over, he saw me and stopped and asked "Whit is it" I replied that I just wondered if he was also going to book the scooter that was illegally parked behind me,"but that's mine he says" so I says, It's on double yellows and started to take pictures with my phone. Warden gets stroppy and starts shouting at me and in the meantime owner of car turns up and buggers off, job done, often wondered if another meanie would have taken advantage and booked the scooter after all the lines are there for all road users.?
See when I'm bored, strange things amuse me and I needed to wind up somebody.

OT - You've never lived in London then. I'm currently on my 5th ticket in 2 years. All were issued when my car was properly parked, and all have been overturned on appeal. Waste of mine and the council's time

Parking attendants are ******s the lot of them!! Always and everytime!!! It's a joke to ticket this.

There is probably a get out in law that it can't be ticketed just like you couldn't ticket a bike!!!

I got a ticket in staff hospital car park, despite using my barrier pass to get in and displaying the said pass in windscreen (which has my number on so they can check if we pay) because it was the wrong pass (not the wind screen sticker, which I don't put in permanently as I don't want everyone to know where I work) I was fined 50 chuffing quid!!!

So you got a ticket for having the wrong pass displayed and no windscreen sticker?

How is that the parking attendants fault, they are doing their job.

I am sure you would be the first to complain if you couldn't get a space because they were all full of unentitled people who weren't ticketed.

I couldnt get into a barrier secured staff car park without my pass!!!!

Oh and the hospital employ them as security, so much for looking after the security if they are checking cars!!!

Issuing tickets must be part of their job or they wouldn't do it.

Your pass gives you access to the car park and probably so do lots of other peoples passes who are not entitled to park there. The windscreen sticker tells the security staff if that vehicle/person should be parked there so without that how can they tell?

I understand you are sore about it, but you were in the wrong.

Can you appeal?

Hence the ticket, surely.
If there aare rule, (eg a specific windscreen identifier), then the simple thing would be to use it. It's not exactly rocket science.

exactamundo - and if you don't for any reason and get caught, man up and take responsibility for your own actions

I've had parking tickets and speeding tickets (not at the same time obviously) before - but it was my choice to park/drive outside of the law/rules whatever so I can hardly blame anyone else when I get caught.

(that said fifty quid does seem a bit excessive for a parking fine)

My point being is I pay 36 quid a month I had a ticket displayed with the same bloody information on, so they could radio does pass holder 12345 have reg number xyz on their pass? yet the job worths ticketed me.

Yes I can appeal will I? No I will let them take me to court and they will lose as the signs are the wrong height, there is no up to date policy describing what is the correct ticket and it will cost the NHS all the fees, the ******s ticketed me on a technicality, I will defend it on such. And as it will be a day in court they have to pay me for the day as it is a trust matter (it's in the policy as well).

I stand by my original statement all traffic wardens are ******s!!!

Do visitors get tickets? No!! Why because it's to hard to find out who the car belongs to. Despite blocking emergency exits, ambulances etc. staff are targeted, because how did they find out who the car belongs to, that's right they checked the computer which has all paying members on! It's a joke!!!!

Christ, I'd ticket you for the hell of it.....if only for criminal overuse of exclamation marks. :exit:

Would love to see the photo he took, bet the quality isn't very good

Andy, calm down, you`ll end up in hospital mate, not for work either.................:D

He is in a uniform and they thinks he is god. Doesn't look to me as if he is even English, so may not understand how to even read, hence taking a photograph. No doubt in his own country he would be sweeping the streets instead

What a bigoted, racist reply.

He is doing his JOB!

I removed that post, however this is still a free country "just", that includes freedom of speech., If I was that racist I would have objected to my Daughter-in-law becoming part of my family. Instead she is the best thing that happened to my son and I think the world of her.

incidentally its policy for traffic wardens to take pictures - it provides incontrovertible proof which writing down a reg plate does not - so its got nowt to do with the guy's intellectually ability (i'm also impressed with how you managed to tell his nationality just by looking at him  )

If they have a camera that can prove the file hasn't been altered ;)

they normally use a pda and email it as soon as taken - and an examination of the raw data would demonstrate its not been edited (if anyone took such an allegation seriously enough to try to disprove it rather than falling about laughing)

You are not legally obliged to pay that as it wasn't a fine, it was a parking charge.

Only real fines issued by councils or traffic wardens are enforcable.

You will probably find if they were using a council vehicle for the purpose of there duty they would be covered under the traffic management act to park pretty much where they need to.

More tickets should be issued if you ask me, especially for inability to park straight and between the lines with sufficient space to enter/exit neighbouring cars.

that - and for the sort of b*****d who parks in passing spaces on single track roads

Its because the mods love me - they each have a special pet name and fight like children to have 'their' special name on display - it's a hard life being a god
