Edinburgh traffic wardens at their best

OT - You've never lived in London then. I'm currently on my 5th ticket in 2 years. All were issued when my car was properly parked, and all have been overturned on appeal. Waste of mine and the council's time

I bought a TV from a guy who lived a couple of miles off the end of the M1

Bus lane cameras, yellow box cameras, speed cameras, traffic light cameras, traffic wardens, constant reminders I was approaching the congestion zone

I doubt it'd be that bad if hitler had won the war

Then I found the flat which was on the 3rd floor

I parked in a bay on the street and he bought a 2 hour parking permit down

We went up to get the TV, took about 10 minutes

We came down and 2 traffic wardens were hovering round the van , he went to ask if he'd filled the permit out wrong

No sir, the vehicle is illegally parked , because I was putting a big tv in the back of the van I'd parked as far forward in the box as I could , the bumper was about an inch over the white line.

If we hadn't come down they'd have put a ticket on it

I was bloody glad to get out of there, I've no desire to go back any time soon

The traffic wardens in Warrington now have barcode scanners that scan your tax disc and print a ticket out if it's over the time all in about 10 seconds

I taxed my car on the last day of the month, it was a Saturday so they shut at 12.30, I thought 1/2 an hour would be plenty but hadn't factored the queue , it took 35 minutes, I got back to a nice £30 fine for 5 minutes

its no wonder the high st is dying and the Internet is booming

You are not legally obliged to pay that as it wasn't a fine, it was a parking charge.

Only real fines issued by councils or traffic wardens are enforcable.

Steve.

Also if they do take me to court they can only charge me for lost revenue and would have to prove how much they actually have lost. I have wrote and told them to take me to court, that way they cannot add debt collection charges as I can opt for court ;)

they normally use a pda and email it as soon as taken - and an examination of the raw data would demonstrate its not been edited (if anyone took such an allegation seriously enough to try to disprove it rather than falling about laughing)

Not so, digital photographs are only admissible as undisputed evidence if they are used with image authentication software.

Exif data can be changed, and it's up to them to prove it hasn't not me to prove it has. Burden of proof with them ;)

I removed that post, however this is still a free country "just", that includes freedom of speech., If I was that racist I would have objected to my Daughter-in-law becoming part of my family. Instead she is the best thing that happened to my son and I think the world of her.

:cuckoo: Old school? Sounds like my old dear in the seventies.

"She's very nice for a black lady"

Even my old dear has evolved from what she was.

Thank goodness!

I think you are getting confused between a criminal case and a civil suit - in the latter the 'burden of proof' is with both sides - if they want to admit the photo they only have to satisfy the judge that its admissible evidence - if you want to challenge it on the grounds that its been edited its up to you to prove that it has.

Civil suits work on balance of probability and reasonableness and it is very unlikely you can convince a judge that its likely that they've edited a parking photo as part of a sinister plot against you, and to be honest its not a great idea to try as it would make you look paranoid and/or uncooperative which would undermine your credibility

It won't get to court.

Simply write to them, enclosing a copy of the "ticket", and say that whilst you thank them for thier speculative invoice (which is exactly what it is), you are declining to pay. They'll write back and say you must, so repeat the letter. They'll pass it to a collection company who will also write. Change the address and send same letter again.

You won't wind up in court. It's simply not worth thier effort, and even though they would very much like you to pay, in the grand scheme of things, the truth is that you're just not that important to them.

This would make me think about moving out of this horrible place

I truly hate this parking enoforcement nonsense and I am yet to be screwed for the first time. Wouldn't the UK be a better place to live without the parasitic council wardens?

No matter what you say now, that first comment was extremely insulting and racist. I suppose I'm wasting my time participating on a forum as I'm not entirely British, therefore cannot read. Yes this country still has freedom of speech, but thank god you confine your racism to text, at least that way none of us foreigners can read it and get upset by it.

Remind me to never go on a meet with you, you'll probably expect me to carry your bags and clean your shoes afterwards.

I cannot really talk since the last time we met up I sat in the car while you helped load my car, which for irony sake was parked both on the pavement, on double yellows and partially blocking a bus lane    but have to agree edited or not there is no place for racism on this forum :(

I suppose they should be grateful you didnt park it on its roof in a ditch with half a TR6 embedded in the front

I have no intention of going for a take two, I've still got a lot of pain in my neck :(

Were you? I thought there was a proper loading bay there for the hotel deliveries.

No mate that hotel was woeful they initially wanted us to park in a multi story round the corner can carry all the kit round to the hotel :cuckoo:

Pff, my friend fell out with the hotel anyway, they have changed management and are unwilling to host anymore shows. So the next show is in a casino :D

And to keep on subject, I've only ever had a parking ticket once on my bike, when I stayed in a service station hotel. The reception told me to park to the side of the entrance so they could keep an eye on the bike for me, I came down the next morning to find a parking fine and huge chain attached to my bike. Luckily the hotel reception sorted it out for me but it still took the site security over an hour to come out with a key to remove the chain. I don't blame the security they were just doing their job after all, however it would of been nice if they had been faster to unlock my bike.

And you wonder why they name you so

its because they love me - one day they'll try to recruit me and i'll have to break their little hearts
