weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Cheers Trevor. The bit I'm not keen on with the background is where the reflected light hits the building. It makes it look like I've badly joined two side by side images at that point. In fact my little secret is that I did stitch two images together to get this one but they were one above the other rather than side to side. It was a good exercise in pp'ing though.

Morning Peter, Mr Catchup here......;)

Money - love the shot, didn't know they did a Yorkshire monopoly. Now being from t'other side of the Pennines I'm gonna resist any short arm, long pocket comments :D. Is it true that Yorkshire have their own currency called 'Ow Much??? (only kidding ;))

Win - Loving this shot matey, the dof is spot on too.

Shiny - definitely shiny to me. Bang on theme, and on a rare UK sunny day too

I'm playing catch up this week due to not coming up with anything I was happy with for Shiny and won't post the one I have come up with last night 'til I've gone through everyone elses.
Shiny - I like this, nicely composed though that roof does look a little wonky :D
Good exposure and really works nicely with that blue sky.

Thanks for the feedback Simon. Don't worry about the 'ow much comments. I lived in Lancashire longer than I've been over in Yorkshire.

bang on theme Peter although for me Christmas is more nightmare than Magical, but thats just personal :lol: this is well set up and well taken

'Magical' - and just when you thought Christmas was over, 'sigh'..... Very nice image, good depth of field, focus, lighting and bang-on theme !

:bat:

Blooming 'eck...only 277 days to Christmas....:gag:

Composition is good, nice and close. It looks a bit flat, though, especially the main bauble...

Cheers.

Cheers Liz. For me the nightmare of Christmas comes in the form of the Visa bill :'(

That's a take on the theme I didn't think about! A good idea that, like the close crop on the decorations.
Thanks Michael

Magical indeed :) I like it though do agree it needs a little more "punch"
Thanks Andy/Paul, I see what you mean. That main bauble isn't a shiny one like the others in the background hence it looking as it does. Getting the exposure right particularly on the smaller ones took a while due to the bright reflections of the softbox. I won't do a retake with a different one though.... well not until December

Nice composition and bang on theme, but yes, very flat. I don't think it needs a reshoot though, just a saturation boost. I did this on my iPad so possibly not accurate, but it gives the idea:

Ah Christmas is a magical time of year. I like this shot, nice DOF and lighting:thumbs:
Thanks Marsha.

That does look better Mark. Mine was probably more reflective (forgive the pun) of the actual bauble but your version gives it that bit of extra umph that I prefer.

Can't get more magical than Christmas Peter....great bit of thinking there  The slightly punchier version works better for me tough....nice work mister :)

Christmas decs in March :suspect:
Seriously, I like the thinking outside the box very creative.
Lovely sharp photograph, good lighting with the highlights handled well. The punchier version gets my vote too. Iain

A good magical photo Peter, it was strange seeing Christmas decs in the lounge last night but I'm glad you didn't put the tree up as well!!
Thanks Sarah

Good photo. I like it.
Cheers Robert

Thanks for the feedback Iain.

Only last weekend I threw once of these away when clearing out my Mum's garage. I remembered today that I'd been given one by my Father in Law a couple of years ago. He did lots of wood turning hence the wood dust all over it. I felt it adds to the picture though. That and it was cheaper than the £35 one at B&Q

Magical, never thought of christmas, simple but good shot..

Vice, is a good shot but just a little bit to tight..

Hi Peter.

I like the lighting on your vice, but I think it's too tight a crop, I'm wondering if it needs more of the vice in it?

:agree:

Think you need to see more of the vice.

Thanks for the feedback Marsha, Darren and Neil. I understand what you say but that was exactly what I was after. In fact you should have seen my first set of shots which were even closer up

Nice idea and the crop doesn't bother me too much.

For me, though, I like seeing this type of object symmetrical. Nice overhead photograph...would be great.

Cheers.

Like the crop as is, I think it works quite well.
Thanks Michael

Thanks Andy. Good idea about the symmetrical approach. If nothing else it would have helped the focusing when taking pictures this close. ;)

Hi Peter

Finally got round to checking up on last week.

Magic - great idea, love Christmas and it is so very magical. Great capture to say its not actually Christmas

Vice - really great, love the close upness of it. Good crop angle. Nice colours and like how it looks used/worked.

Good couple of weeks.

Vice is a very nice shot. Re the crop, I'd not change much, but maybe a touch more at the top, as it feels a tiny bit constricted to me.

Thanks for the comments Alex

I like it, and the crop, it was immediately evident what it was, the sawdust adds to it and it's well lit. Good shot.
Thanks Paul

Hi Peter

'Vice' - like it too, nice lighting, focus and processing. Can't argue with the subject - bang on theme !

Oi, who's changed my camera bag!!! Bloody cheek; I'll have you know it does NOT use cassette tapes :bat:

Magical - Your nuts setting that up in march  a great shot, nicely set up, the boosted saturation lifted it nicely

Vice - Love the detail in the shot, the dust adds life to it, nice angle too !!!
Thanks for the feedback DK

For my entrance image I went to work on Sunday! This shot is of the entrance to the Parkinson Building at the University of Leeds. For many students it's not only an entrance into the building, its library behind the doors or indeed to the University itself but it's the entrance to a world of research and learning that will play a major part in their lives and careers.

I'm sure the use of the Sigma 10-20mm at the wide end won't be everybody's cup of tea but I wanted to accentuate the feeling of this imposing building. Pity about the scaffolding though.
