weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Vice i like the close crop on it, defiantely works for me

Entrance, this is a fantastic building and the low POV really does it justice

Nice shot Peter, at first glance it looked like the county hall in Norwich!! maybe I will do that and see how they compare...

10mm...love it. Very imposing and I like your narrative.

The composition is just about spot on and the converging likes really add to the photograph.

I suspect taking it a few hours later would really add to it. I think a subtle HDR would work as well.

Cheers.

nice pic and really on theme it does look very imposing.
Thanks Allan

Entrance

Great shot, looks very grand. Like your PoV
Thanks Darren

Loving that wide angle, very nice sharp picture. Great perspective.
Thanks Michael

Thanks for the feedback Andy. The Sun was directly behind which I didn't think would help but preferred the result I got here than I did with the Sun side on at the Town Hall. I did dabble with HDR and B&W but settled in the end with the final edit which didn't have too much pp done to it.

Great shot - wouldn't it be easy to PS out the scaffolding??
Mmmm that would take some doing. The scaffolding only went up a couple of weeks ago as well :bang:

I can't believe you went back to work on a Sunday but it was worth it! I like your use of the wide angle it adds to the imposing look of it!!:)

Wow Leeds Uni; I used to visit a mate there a lot in the early 80's! Fantastic shot, which just shows that you CAN break the rules (in this case, "never point the camera up at a building"), and more than get away with it.

You could PS the tower AND scaffolding out quite easily, but I agree that getting rid of the scaffolding alone would be a huge task. Quick play; could be done much better (you can see my brush strokes):

Thanks for the feedback Mark. I agree with many of the "rules of photography" but sometimes the rule of breaking the rules wins. Nice edit but the removal of the tower takes away probably its most famous feature hence my disappointment about the scaffolding.

Yes it did feel like I was committing sacrilege removing it, but I thought it was worth a try :)

Hi Peter

going to work on a sunday...now there's dedication to the challenge

Very imposing building & great low POV adds to that feeling , for not much PP I think you've done really well to retain som much detail in the stone work on the stairs & the building itself..

Thanks for the kind feedback Lynne.

I made up for it today and stayed at home

love the pov on this one

I like this entrance shot due to the low composition, makes if very imposing. I agree about the scaffolding being a shame but not too much you can do about it other than come back and reshoot when it's all gone. I do find that the shot does appear to be leaning the right slightly?

Hi Peter, cracking POV makes this buliding look very imposing. I think the symmetry is perfect as you've got the windows lined up perfectly. I don't see any lean, just a little bit of barrel distortion but I don't think this distracts at all from the image.

Yes it's a shame about the scaffolding, but hey ho, buildings get restored and it is part of history that you have shot here!

Good shot. I like the angle.
Thanks Robert

Entrance - For me, really good POV and a very nice entrance indeed. I prefer the edited version without the tower/scaffolding.
Thanks Nathalie

Been away all week but spent some time buying some chocolates in Tesco for my soft entry. I was going to do a creme egg but noticed tonight someone had already done it so went for plan B. I hope you like it as the subject is disappearing rather rapidly and I might not be able to recreate it again :lol::lol:

Hi Peter,

I do like your entrance shot, lovely symmetry and POV, the building looks very imposing taken from this angle. Well done.

Excellent shot Peter, I wouldn't change a thing! That chocolate does look good, so soft and smooth, can I have that piece on the right? lol

Thanks for the comments Carol. Sorry that piece seems to have already disappeared :whistling:

Hi Peter

Entrance - excellent. Like the pov and spot on symmetry. Right choice of lens to give added impact. Good coliurd too. Well done

Soft - on theme and I like the composition but the light seems a bit too one dimensional to me. i like the fact that the choc is not perfect too - a bit messy with some crumbs.

And.....I have no chocolate :D

Nice idea and plenty of detail.

For me, I'd like to see you get much closer to the main caramel...

Cheers and yummy!!

welcome back Peter hope you had a good time ,

Good idea to use the chocolate, the caramel definately does say soft, i think i may have had another broken piece running as well, but thats just me

Soft - definitly on theme and good detail. I agree about the lighting, it's a little harsh I feel too, even a piece of tissue in front of your light source would have diffused it and given it a different feel I think.

Also, the piece on the right makes the shot for me but I'd rather see the whole piece as you've cropped through it.

Hi Peter. I like soft! I'd have liked a slightly shallower DoF to give it some depth I think, and agree about the lighting, but other than that, spot on!

Thanks for the comments guys. I agree about the lighting. I started using a torch but couldn't get it quite right so resorted to a flashgun which was diffused but obviously not enough. Lesson learned is to get the Bowens plus softbox out. The lighting is so much better.

And.....I have no chocolate :D

Thanks Andy. Good idea for another viewpoint.

Thanks for the feedback Liz. I did have quite a few broken ones. It took me a while to get just the right break as I was wanting a diagonal break near to the C of Cadbury's.

Ooooo I like it! I think the lighting is fine, it makes me want to eat it! Hang on, I don't need much encouragement where chocolate is concerned!

I'm not sure about the white BG though, possibly a little sterile for me:thinking: I think the inside foil wrapper might work better?

Thanks for the feedback Marsha. The foil wrapper is a good idea

On theme Peter, certainly but I agree with the points above. I find the lighting a little harsh. I dont know how you've lit it with your flash but maybe bounced from above or more to the side would have given a bit more depth to the image.
Technically its perfect but artistically maybe a shallower dof would help it along. All IMHO please feel free to ignore :). Iain

Thanks for the feedback and won't be ignored. I tried the flash in a few different positions and even attempted a torch to brighten the shadow under the chocolate. As I've said above I really should have got the Bowens+softbox out. It gives some lovely light and so much better than a standard flashgun even if diffused.

Hi Peter....works for me...now where's my chocolate bar!!!
Cheers Neil

Hi Peter

Soft - I so like that shot, really nice set up and composition, the lighting doesn't bother me at all... the shot makes my mouth water, Nice One
Thanks for the comments DK

Hi Peter

yummy...chocolate & caramel...soft for sure...good lighting , love that the bit showing the caramel seems to jump out at you....good work mister
Thanks for the feedback Lynne

There's a lot of pride when it comes to those heroes who have served their king/queen and country. My Grandfather received this for his time in the Somerset Light Infantry during World War One.
