weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Works well, you can 'see' the ingrained coal dust ... sadly most true industry is only found in museums today. :(
Thanks for the feedback

Very nice shot, that's a place I want to visit.
Thanks Darren. We went on the underground tour twice when the kids were younger including visiting Santa down there :) - The kids loved it.

Great shot where abouts is the museum?
Thanks Chris. It's just outside Wakefield towards Hudderfield. Well worth a trip - Details are here

Very nice image Peter, the composition works very well and small aperture has nicely tightened up the detail. The flowing lines of the power cables really make this a pleasing image which is bang-on theme
Many thanks for the kind words Nick

Perfect for the theme, not a job I would have liked I might add. Nicely done. ;)
Cheers Alby. I went down a working mine as a teenager and saw the conditions first hand. I can definitely say I couldn't do it either.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought that the saturation for the reds and yellows should be increased to maximise the colour and then I read underneath that you toned it down!

I'm always wrong, most of the time, with the finer detail ideas so stick with what you've done!

A good take on the theme, and well taken. I like the idea of decreasing the saturation it works well.

Thanks Ben and Phil. Whilst I was in there I tried moving the saturation up further. Believe me toning it down was the right way to go.

I like the desaturation on this its gives a feel of muck, i recognised what it was as soon as i saw it on your Flickr stream, being originally from South Yorkshire and having 7 deep mines within a 5 mile radius of my house its an industry thats pretty close to my heart, its sad that we only get to see it in a museum these days

Hi Peter,

Like this one too, makes me stop and think about what all those torches are for.....an interesting piece of history.

Carol

Nice picture! love the 'grittyness' of it! :D

@cazagee they are miners head torches :D

Works well for me and spot on theme, only one niggle is the metal work top right just looks odd but doesn’t distract from an excellent shot, well done

Thanks Liz. I agree - an industry that once stood proud virtually gone.

Missed secure, I really like. Could see that on a wall somewhere. Really nice.

Industry is good too, dirty and worked. Just what the theme ordered
Thanks for the kind words Alex

That's a great Industry image Peter, really like that, Excellent Composition/Angle
Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers Clawz. There was definitely plenty of grittyness there.

Thanks Trevor. There were plenty of reflections in the metalwork going on so I'll put it down to that.

Hi Peter

Secure....hmmmm..love it...angle , colors , sharpness ...

Industry....soon as I saw it I liked it.....I also initially thought the colors needed to pop a little more but having read your text I can see what you were aiming for & it works well  Can't help wondering if B&W would suit it....maybe...maybe not....I used to be indecisive ....

Excellent shot, the almost mono feel to it works really well.

It's weeks like this I wish I was visiting relatives up in Barnsley!
Thanks Marsha

Thanks for feedback Lynne. As you can imagine I did quickly try a B&W while I was playing with the saturation but my preference was for some colour to still be in there.

Hi Peter,

Secure. Nice vibrant colours and excellent composition. Top shot!

Industry. Again good job on the colours (or lack thereof!) and composition. I'm up that way later in the year and will definitely be popping along to that museum now!

Another good take on the theme Peter, I like the colours how you have desaturated them. Good use of DOF and like the angle you have used. Bang on :)

That's a great shot for industry. Great composition and the PP works very well.

Hi, I do like the desaturated feel of your industry. B&W might work with this one.

Just the clipped top left light...

Cheers.

Very nice shot recording some of our social history and heritage. The toning down of the saturation definitely works for me.

I like the industry shot - would also like to see a version with the blacks, contrast and saturation pumped a little - might make it more gritty / punchy

Thanks Richard. Yes it's definitely worth a trip.

Thanks for the feedback Roly.

I like the de-saturated look, it works very well
Thanks Michael

Cheers for the comments Mark

Great shot, nice exposure and composition.
Thanks Paul

Thanks for the feedback Phil. I have to say my preference was desaturating for what I was wanting from this subject.

I'm on my phone so can't comment on the image but I will say this.

Spring onions in H'west - they'll be getting electric next!

(actual feedback to follow)

Wow, amazing detail. I love the white roots against the black background, I would only achieve that in PP and after much swearing!! I have to ask how you did it?
Thanks Marsha. Not much PP'ing on this one. It was set up in a dark-ish room with a black t-shirt being used for a backdrop. The spring onion was held up using an elastic band on another tripod and then lit using a led torch being careful not to get the light hitting the background.

Simple and right on theme. Like the water drop a bit further up the main section.

Welcome back!
Thanks Alex. The water was there on purpose - honest. I'd kept the spring onions fresh in a glass of water and just after setting up the shot dunked the subject back in the glass again. Glad it worked.

Cheers Peter. I think I need to get the torch out next time I try some low key shots!
A good strong led torch is a must in every photographer's kit bag. The good thing about led's is that the light is a lot more neutral than the older style bulb types.

Really like the DOF on this one, crisp and sharp with nice colours.

Good take on a difficult theme
Thanks for the comments Roly.

Great use of light / shadow on the root - not obviously easy to do!
Thanks Amanda.

Hi Peter,

Like this one too, the lighting makes the shot. Thanks very much for explaining how you did it...can't believe it's set against a black t-shirt.. Got to get me a LED torch.

Carol

good set of pics you've got going on, for me so far sweet and root are my fav..

I love the composition you have on the spring onion, with it being close up like it is it almost looks other worldly :)

that's very nice. Lovely lighting and very sharp. Could be used as a demonstration of how the evil empire (te$co) is spreading..

Very nice shot Peter - well set up and great lighting
Thanks for the comments

Thanks Carol. Don't forget to get a black t-shirt as well

Loving the industry shot, bang on theme, root an excellent shot too, dof spot on.
