weekly Delta Skies 2012 52 Week Challenge - Week 52 "Busy" added

Here's my entry for week 5 - Secure.

Credit has to go to Sarah for coming up with this idea (amongst many as we drove over to Blackpool). I just took advantage of her getting her hair cut and disappeared to Fleetwood with camera in hand.

I like the way you have anchored it to the bottom left corner, it works for me. ;)

Spot on theme and well taken and good DOF and agree with the lead in line.

Good colours and patina. Good composition. Agree with other points made. Normally I would have liked to have seen what is secured , but the general nautical theme of water, peeling paint from the damp, boarding, capstan help overcome this. Plenty of choice at Fleetwood dock.

Nice idea well executed

Nice and spot in theme.

Lovely colours and composition, a very nice shot.

:plusone: That's the first thing I saw.

I did a B&W conversion, but prefer this one. The paintwork on the side is great.

Well composed, good depth and well spotted.

very nice like the colours :)
Thanks for all the feedback folks. I did crop the picture on purpose with the rope coming from the corner so it's good to hear it's gone down well. I also thought of B&W but for this one liked the blueness especially the difference between the paint textures.

Great idea Peter, lovely colours in the image too and it does definitely convey Secure to me :) Keep it up

Like that shot Peter, the crop really suits it and the colours are great.

Another well thought out and taken image, bang on theme :)

Secure - a good take on the theme and lovely bold colours. Crop is good - puts the subject on the third.

Great idea Peter - I really must keep my mouth shut!!:lol:

Its a well executed photo with good use of diagonals and colour!!

Thanks for the feedback. Keep those ideas coming Sarah

Hi Peter,

Love the colours in your secure shot, nicely done.

Carol

Great shot. Clean and crisp.

I'm way behind on both my own and looking at others so I'm playing catchup :(

On your 2 fear shots, I actually do prefer the first one (colour) as it's more obvious what the wood is, I don't think you would be able to make it out so much on the B&W one.

On Sigh, it's a great picture and well caught but its one of those that doesn't say sigh as a standalone picture, ie without your explanation of the interpretation it wouldn't work, however it's a particularly tough theme that week as I found myself and probably why I've fallen behind.

On the secure, you're best shot yet as far as Im concerned.

Loving the blue of the pier/jetty, the strong tight rope, definitely says secure to me. I would be tempted to crop a bit off the right as the wood isn't particularly grainy or strongly patterned though.

But well shot!

Nothing else to add on secure, its spot on

Loving your sweet stack, looks fantastic.

Secure - nice, good focus, cool colours. Well done.

Secure - Really like it. The dominant blue colour works really well. Interesting how blues and reds really stand out isn't it.

Can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Great work.

Ooops missed the sweet one!

I like that too, great macro shot!!

I like this. Nice colour too.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

I really like your image Peter, nice composition and tones. The colour has worked well and in this case I think been more effective than mono.

What the hell was going through your head when you decided to try balancing 5 sugar crystals?
It's inspired. Fantastic idea and nicely executed shot. Are you going to keep trying for 5 or do you value your sanity? :-)

Like the secure mooring too. Nice sharp rope and good colour.

loving this one

At its height in around the 1920's the UK coal industry had over 1.2 million miners. Now the figure is somewhere between 2000 and 4000 miners (depending on whether you talk to the Government or unions). It is part of our industrial heritage especially for those of us living in ex-mining towns in West Yorkshire.

I took this shot in the lamp room at the National Coal Mining Museum with a big thanks to Steve who after my cheeky request to take a quick shot spent about an hour or so with us showing us all sorts of things. What a great guy and very proud of the industry he used to work in.

I've brought down the saturation and vibrance layers on purpose to give it a bit of an older feel to it. I hope it works.

Works well, you can 'see' the ingrained coal dust ... sadly most true industry is only found in museums today. :(

Very nice image Peter, the composition works very well and small aperture has nicely tightened up the detail. The flowing lines of the power cables really make this a pleasing image which is bang-on theme

Perfect for the theme, not a job I would have liked I might add. Nicely done. ;)

As soon as I saw the picture I thought that the saturation for the reds and yellows should be increased to maximise the colour and then I read underneath that you toned it down!

I'm always wrong, most of the time, with the finer detail ideas so stick with what you've done!
