Darkslinger's 52 Week Challenge - 2022

A terrific atmosphere to all of those images Bill. I like the first the best though and you caught the gull at just the right moment.
Thanks Pete, nothing better than photobombing wildlife!

All wonderful pictures that capture the theme really well. Your choice is the correct one but I would have been struggling between the one you picked and the second one (y)
Thanks Simon.

Nice photos Bill, I like the street shot, but that's not 100% fitting the theme for me, the others do.
Yeah, it wasn't quite foggy enough for the theme but I liked it enough to include it.

I love the composition of #4 but it doesn't really say heavy so I can see why you chose the first one. Love the seagull!

Thanks Helen, that was really a grab and go capture as I was hurrying to catch the Skytrain (our rapid transit system). I liked it enough that I decided to throw it in with the rest but it didn't have enough fog to meet the intent of the theme.

Week #8 - Light

I got lucky today, the forecast has been for rain all day, every day until Saturday. Took the day off and went to Crescent Beach. The morning started with overcast skies but the sun broke through...

Took that one and then played with ICM

This one was pretty much SOOC

Took a couple more just because the light was so good

I really like your last shot Bill, is it long exposure using a ND filter as it looks very calm with a colour cast (Which I like by the way).

I guess you would use a nd filter to the long exposure required for the ICM shots.

Pete

Thanks Pete, I was using a 6 stop ND filter but it was so bright that the shot was only 1/2 second.

I used Nik Color Efex Pro 4 for the processing.

I've been watching YouTube videos from Andy Gray and trying to emulate his technique. Just happened that I liked that shot for the static image rather than the ICM version.

I like those, there’s an ethereal quality about them.

All great shots Bill, but really do like the last one. Nik is a cool bit of software to use.
Thanks Dave, I use Nik quite a bit as a starting point. I'll often start in LR for basic adjustments then move the image over to a Nik module and then bring it back into LR for some final adjustments.

The second one is my favourite. It has some sort of ethereal quality that I like.

Truth be told Donal, it's the one I was most happy with as well, even though the upload to this forum isn't as good as the version on my computer :D

Really like these, really calming shots. First time I have saw an ICM shot I liked too, shot 2 has a lovely quality to it. Would love to see last shot without the cast on that one as I think that may be my favourite one.

The ICM ones work well Bill but l love the first and last. The subtle colours are beautiful and both are nicely composed.

Thanks Scott, as requested:

Thank you Pete, I know that ICM isn't for everyone.

Lovely set. 1st, 2nd and last for me (can we choose 3?). I really like the colour cast/processing on the last one. Your ICM has a lovely dreamy feel to it,

You can absolutely choose 3 Bebop, thank you!

Bad timing for me this week. The past two weeks (with few exceptions) have been rain, rain and more rain. As soon as "Damp" is announced, the sun comes out, the birds are singing and there isn't a damp spot to be found...

Well, I can't have sour grapes about it...wait...hmmmm...maybe Damp Grapes?

Nice one :)

On theme Bill, a nice image.

I had the same problem, being in sunny Portugal for 2 weeks, but also had similar luck in my damp photo.

Thanks Duncan.

That made me chuckle. They look succulent and fit the theme nicely.
:) They are pretty tasty! Thanks Bebop.

Thanks Pete, I thought that I stick with just the "Damp" portion of the theme. Unlike yours I couldn't figure out how to get a reflection in my grapes...I'll shoot for tech on week 10 (hopefully)

That's a very tasty picture!
Thanks Simon, even better in real life!

Nicely done Bill. Sometime, as in this case, the shots you think up and take in a moment of inspiration, work really well.

Light - I rather like #4 for the simplicity
Damp - nicely shot and certainly fits the theme.

Only issue with the grapes are they appear to be seeded, nothing worse than trying to enjoy them but finding the seeds.
An interesting take on the theme, well shot

Thanks Pete, I agree completely.

Thanks Stuart, the seeds are actually very soft and I barely feel them. They were advertised as "seedless" :D

Week #10 - Through the window. I was having trouble finding a subject that I was really happy with but I had to go into a small town that is nearby and managed to get some store window shots amidst the pouring rain. I went with this one because I liked the colours and the abstract nature and it let me check off the tech as well as the theme:

Thru the Window-3.jpg

This one is actually my favourite shot:
Thru the Window-8.jpg

I thought this turned out kind of cool, a shot of my phone shooting through the window:

And a couple more that I liked from my walk through the town:

Another interesting set Bill. I like the one you’ve chosen as the muted tones really suit the subject and theme. I also like the last one a lot and the post processing really works well on it.

Thanks Pete, that's a shot of a Greek restaurant. Set up for dinner but not open for lunch.
