Darkslinger's 52 Week Challenge - 2022

Great set. All 3 fit the theme and the B/W enhance the first and third.

It works very well for me too... I like the mono, and the themeing of the images makes for a pleasing result.

I had a tough time with this "easy" challenge this week. I realized that I was overthinking it. I had planned to do a "discarded" still life but Wednesday came around and sadly, I knew that that still life wasn't going to happen. I went out to gather some material for a couple of Stephanie Jung and Pep Ventosa style multiple exposures and tried to grab some discards as I wandered around. I knew that I was unlikely to find an interesting discarded subject so the shot would have to be about composition.

I came across these discarded flowers:

but it didn't quite do it for me. I then found this, mostly intact, cigar that someone had walked away from:

but I couldn't decide if it had been discarded or someone was coming back for it... This Pringle chips scattered across the sidewalk looked interesting:

but I thought I could do better. This discarded newspaper page caught my eye as it was windy and the man standing there almost got it in the face:

I had hoped that the wind would pick it up and wrap it around his leg, but, alas, no such luck. I was almost home when I saw this discarded mask peaking up through the grate:

but the image was grabbed quickly and a little too overexposed. Then there was this old bottle amongst the leaves:

I like it but I was hoping to find something with a little more oomph. And the very last image I took before I got home was this one:

I liked the little flare at the top and couldn't help thinking that someone saw the sign and figured they could "park" their old Walmart receipt amidst the daffodils... :D

You captured a good range of options there.
I think the mask and the flowers are strong contenders as well as your chosen one.

A good bunch to choose from there Bill. I like the one you’ve chosen and think that the mask shot is a strong pic as well.

I think you chose the right shot. I also like the leading lines in the pavement shot - which I now realise is a mask, reading the other comments.

The lens flare makes it feel very spring like. You'll have to remove the receipt and re-shoot for this week :)

Thanks everyone, I liked the mask shot but thought that the sky was too overexposed and I couldn't recover it well enough. I also wasn't thrilled with the colours....but I would have used it if it wasn't for that last shot of the day... :)

Very nice image and thanks for the link explaining it. That is something that I will definitely have a go at.

Fun and quick to do. I think it took me all of a hour from idea to finished image.

Really like the image Bill, it's a very interesting method that I'm going to try out.

Certainly very different. The link is very interesting, like others I will have to give it a go

Lovely shot and very creative :)

All good images for the discarded shot, but I like the first flower shot. There's something very sad and poignant about it.

Good discarded shots.. you also fitted in this weeks theme in your chosen shot.
Love the flora shot.. really effective.

Thanks Duncan, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Thanks David, now I'm thinking that Cobra might have to add it as a technique :D
Very good! It's nice to see something different.
Thanks Paul!

I liked it for the same reasons Simon, I just didn't think that it was as strong compositionally.

Very different, and slightly dizzying! Nicely shot.
Deep breath Simon, the dizziness with pass!

Love the flora shot.. really effective.
Thanks Helen.
