Christmas 2012 Bah Humbug Thread

Just thought I would let you guys know, our inflatable frosty is ready to be put up come 1st December :)

And no, I don't live in a council house or a housing estate.
Do please take a photograph and post it on here, so that we may all join in with your festive merriment and cheer.

G'day mate and welcome to me thread, with me Kaaaarl Hooper.

Sorry, got carried away there, the last few words.(Fast Show reference)

So they are as bad in the retail sector over there as here then? I thought it was only the Brits who were so hung up on all the cr4p!

UK, USA, Oz, all the same, just an excuse to part people with their money, give shareholders something to shout about, and give millionaire business owners a chance to ask for more public money when people don't buy as much over-priced tat as they bought last year. ;)

Sad *******.

If you want a warm cuddly welcome try the 'other' thread.

Cheer or jeer?

On the other hand we just got notice of our Christmas bonuses :D

Sorry...now back to our regularly scheduled grinching

and on the other hand - we have just been informed of our Xmas Annual Leave :D

Lets say it will be a very looooong break :D Luckily I have a PS3 to while away the hours!

All in the name of "savings" - lights and heating all off means saving money or so Managment say - who am I to correct them?

I love Xmas me

I seem to have a vague memory of a school or company rather North of Watford who decided on a longish winter break so turned off all lighting and heating for the duration to save a few quid.
False economy! The lack of heating (they turned it OFF, not just right down) resulted in burst pipes and not all the resulting losses were covered by their insurance...

Mrs Nod is looking forward to the winterval - her place of work is closed and locked for about a fortnight and as a result she can't go in. Since it's an enforced break, it's not counted as part of her annual leave, just a christmas bonus!

Collecting the christmas trees this weekend. 3, as usual.

For the love of all that is precious....please be gone to the pro-christmas thread. You're making me want to pluck out my own eyes

I'm looking forward to Christmas shopping this year (I do all mine Christmas Eve - every year). I'll be in plaster and on crutches. Goodness help anyone who gets in my way :D

We might be getting an extended Xmas brake this year, also in the interest of saving money, the plant closes for good next July.:cuckoo:

Have just received the following E-card:

"Dear Santa....I'm writing to tell you that I have been very bad this year, and it was worth it you fat, judgemental barstard"

Made me laugh like a loon

Love it :0)

First tree up tonight, picking the rest up tomorrow. Will keep you guys posted.

Oh almost forgot, all Christmas goodies have been bought also.

Do you not understand that this a not the thread for you? At least have the good grace to leave us to our Bah Humbug-ness.

There is a pretty village near here - very rural, nice old church - couldn't be nicer in summer, but from mid-November onwards most of the houses in the one and only street seem to compete with each other to have the largest, tackiest, worst display of outdoor Christmas light imaginable. It is just hideous!

Personally I put the decorations up on Christmas Eve, and refuse to have either coloured lights or tinsel in the house. I recommend it - last year's rather magnificent 7' non-needle dropping tree cost 1p (yes really) from the local DIY chain :-)

Same goes on here, over in Edmonton, Alberta. The road is actually called Candy Cane Lane and every Xmas, well from December 14th through to January, the entire street takes part and lights up. The one good thing to come from this is that everyone who visits contributes to local charities and the local Food Bank, so it's not all Bah-Humbug ;)

Darren, at least that's from December 14th on. Tomorrow is December 1st, and whilst I've seen many houses with decorations festooned already, I know that tommorrow it will go mental. Those of us that don't want the silly season shoved in our faces have absolutely no choice when we're faced with everyone elses LED nightmares.

True, Ruth. I've been very surprised at how little Edmontonians has shoved Xmas down our throats before the month of December. Only a handful of stores have been playing music since Remembrance Day, but it has gathered pace this past week. I guess having over 25cms of snow on the ground gets people into the xmas moody early!!!

Sod the snow....It's not christmas yet!!!!

Is there such thing as a friendly troll?? :D

I've got out of Christmas again. My wife will be taking our 4 year old to Scotland to visit the outlaws. I won't be going... woohoo!

I can see a quiet evening and a long walk with no traffic. Bliss.

As far as I'm concerned, Christmas is just an inconvenience getting in the way of a perfectly good bank holiday

House next door is lit up like a christmas tree, it's freezing cold and their son is sitting on the car bonnet looking at them :cuckoo:
He's 17 yo FFS

:shake: that's sad.

You want sad, they often go and stay and stay on their mobile home on the coast for the new year and take the lights with them :cuckoo:
Then when they get back some puts them all in the back garden for a couple of months

argghhhhh - its the second of flipping december , just stop it , stop it, make it go away.
