Chillimonster's '365'

I also think that Caitlin moved forward about 6 inches, as the test shots i have have no shadows on the face, but the final shot does  :bang:

Oi you... shouldn't you be at Gymnastics... we're all waiting for round 2 here... :)

PS: another great capture Chris... I am sure Caitlins report will be excellent.

Thanks John - i just love messing with DOF :D

Well the story so far is..........

Not very exciting at all for you lot, but a bit of a relief for me. I got up there, 10 mins early just in case it was going to 'kick off' and nothing..... PFC (pasty faced chuffer) turns up at 2 mins to 7 and doesn't say a word. On the way out i walked straight past her, and still not a word.

Sorry to dissapoint you all, but unless something is said later its the end of the matter :)

I'll update again at 8:30 ish when i get home ;)

Well i'm back from collecting Caitlin.

When i arrived, the 'paranoid parent' was there already, along with a few others, and one that was not there last week (lets call her Mrs X)

After a few minutes, i could see her pointing and whispering to the 'PP' and i knew there would be something to follow. As the girls were tidying up after their class had finished, Mrs X rushed up to Adam (the coach) and i could see certain hand gestures that looked like 'NO' / ' NO Way' / 'I'm Outta Here', along with a few pointed fingers in my direction.

After a few minutes Mrs X came over to me and asked if she could 'have a word?'

"Of course you can, it a free country, contrary to what some paranoid parents would have you believe"

Mrs X then asked if i took picture of her grand-daughter last week. Full expecting this of at least one parent, i took a couple of copies of last weeks pictue with me, and i showed it to her. I explained that i actually took 27 images and deleted 26 and just kept this one image. I also explained what i was taking picture for (even though i dont have to, but she was genuinely interested and thought it was a wonderful idea to produce a book for my mum). At that point she lost some of her 'aggitation' and calmed down and explained the situation.

Her grand-daught is under a child-protection order and cannot be photographed for any reason (just in case :suspect:) and never has school photos taken etc. She did go into more detail, but its not really for discussion here.

She then said that as she had only heard one side of the story (PP's side) she feared the worst, but once she had heard mine we had a good chat about the project, the CPA, and life in general, and she went away a 'happy bunny!' (much to the dislike of 'PP!')

All through this 'PP' was watching like a hawk and still said nothing / nada / diddly squat!

"Shuffle / Repeat!"

Rebecca is getting to that age where she likes to go and shut herself in her bedroom and do her own thing. Its nice that she's enjoying her own space, but Caitlin sometimes wants to play with her and it can cause 'friction'!

Do they like the pics you take?

Thanks Lisa.

They love having thier pictures taken and are a couple of little posers.

They are always asking "Whats today picture dad??", and are always coming up with ideas for them.

I've already 'committed' to next years project. I'm planning on doing a shot of both of them against the same background every day of the year and turn it into a mini 'movie' to see how they change over the course of a year.

"If You Go Down To The Woods Today!"

This morning, following a full English Breakfast, we headed over to Bottoms Resivoir in Tintwistle for a nice family walk as the wetherman had promised good weather. It threw it down for the first half of the walk, then the sun came out to play :)

Love the ipod shot Chris. Is that a colour one today? :D Lovely shot BTW.

Thanks Marc.

Yeah, decided colour was the way to go with todays shot as i liked the greens and browns. The B&W didn't work half as well :)

Just for comparison, here's the B&W version i nearly uploaded...

Looking at it, i 'do' like it, but prefer the colour version for todays picture :)

"Scrabble"

Rebecca was messing with the Junior Scrabble set while i was making tea tonight, so i took advantage of the situation :)

I think the colour version of 193 is better too.

Both nice portraits again, any tips for getting good ones?

Thanks Lisa.

As for tips, i dont think i'm good enough to give advice, but i tend to concentrate on focus and use DOF to help concentrate the viewers attention to where i want them to look. I also find that a small amount of vignetting helps.

I've only just started to find 'my-style' and its more to do with me finding my comfort zone with my camera than anything else and realising that its me and not the equipment that makes the picture. The camera is just a means to an end.

Can I just add to that Chris?? I think the one's of the girls come out so well because they are at day 194, and are completely at ease in front of the camera, and obviously at ease with Daddy as well.

True, Jonny, i always forget about that. They are just so used to seeing me with a camera up to my eye they don't recognise me if they see me with out it and run down the street shouting "Stranger Danger, Stranger Danger!!"

Just catching up Chris. Sorry I've not commented for a while, but for some reason I wasn't subscribed! I'll go and do my hundred lines now!

Great shots as usual - love the scrabble one, but the school report is really good.

Hi Dave - no need to apologise. Its a job and half keeping up with all the threads these days. I usually manage to play catch-up on 4 or 5 then run out of time and do the others another day.

Glad you're still liking the pics :)

Another good idea there, might have been tempted to leave it for day 365... now you need to think of something even better :D

"The Touch"

Another day, another Swimming Gala. This time, both Caitlin and Rebecca competed in the same one. It was only a small 4 team gala but the girls (as ever) enjoyed competing.

This is Rebecca just getting the 'touch' on her leg of the freestyle relay.
